Maslow
I need air, shelter and water
I don’t need a TV
I need safety, law and order
I don’t need items, to be me
The feeling of belonging, affection, achievement
Friends to guide, family’s support in bereavement
Self-actualization, growth and fulfillment
Space to be me, humanity reconcilement
Abandon the fur coats, granite marble floor
For I don’t need to bathe in material galore
I’d rather pick a flower than like your picture on Facebook
Stop taking pictures of take-outs and learn how to cook
Take a walk, fly a kite, write a...

A battle against interspace
A battle against interspace for love
Felt like an eternal conflict against the strongest elements of the universe
What was 70 miles forced two souls apart for the length of months upon end
Which when I closed my eyes felt as if it was forever and a day
We held hands and fought, against interspace; each other
But we won with flying colours
Flying colours, beautiful coloured comets
If we can do this, we can do anything at all
We can live immortally within each other’s souls
Pushing beyond our limits to award each other with radiance
And I was...

Her elegant rage
Self-less sacrifice to see a prospering nation become
Do not let history forget our women who’s valour’s unsung
Rani Lakshmi, the first prominent freedom fighter
No surrender
Filling our hearts with respect, through their rebellion
Fearless, self-ruling queens
India’s independence was not fought for by only men
It was not fought for by invisible faces
The bravery, the bravery, the beauty amongst
Let us not forget the elegance beneath their mighty ambitious rage
In their fight for freedom
For they are a scarlet red rose, simply feminine...

Impossible Articulation
Impossible articulation, the boatload of thoughts
Memories linger in a way that’s like plastic unable to disintegrate into earth
Talented, the people who are successful when pen kisses paper
My hats off to those who write stories with every inch of detail packed into a beautiful melody of words
Because when I write about you, it seems impossible
In a way that’s so impossible
Flying to the moon, dancing in a cage with a roaring lion
I pondered and penned my exact structure to write about you
But the memories are eternal, immortal,...

Misapprehension of Merriment
Romantic you were, we shared the best of times
I couldn’t believe my luck until six months down the line
You placed on me a slap, I began to cry
Then you did too and then I questioned why
Was it my fault, was I winding you up
I made you a coffee in your favourite cup
Time went by and everything was swell
Except for the time that you punched me, ring a bell
In the red corner a man much bigger than me
In the blue, delicacy and fear and that you could see
I thought I would die when your fingers grasped my throat
When I didn’t wear makeup as...

The tulip
Leaves dampened with small droplets of recycled puddles
Crack o’ dawn
Wet soil encrusted with passer-by’s footprints
Elegance in a bird’s voice; chimes a melody, so soft
I stare vacantly at the bottoms of my shoes thanks to the reflection in the water beneath
On a stepping stone I ascended to a log in which moss extended over, to sit and ponder
Beauty
Brittle cobble fractures as I promenade for hours
They aren’t wasted hours, I don’t want to go home
Whispers from breeze sweeps my hair back from my cheeks
I gently deposit my finger into a...

I am heroin
I am euphoric, I am analgesic, I am your friend.
I will make you feel better; I will change your life.
I am extracted from the from the opium of a scarlet red poppy.
I can give you a sense of warmth and well-being.
I’m not that bad, take another hit.
She takes me. I am heroin.
I am heroin; and I forgot to mention that there is another side to me.
I will take everything away from you. I will destroy lives around you. I will make you weaker and weaker and you will lose sense of who you are.
But don’t forget, I’m euphoric. I can make you feel good. ...
