POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I be an internationally acclaimed author of poetry, short stories and a novel.
ME AND MY SINS
My past is a
gory place
To look at
Tainted with many dents
Sins numerous and big
Sins that can not be mentioned
Even amongst ministers of the devil
Many times did I have dinner
With him that was cast down
But I had a very long fork.
My past is not decent at all
Like all those ‘holier than thou’
Those brethren that have never sinned
That were not born in sin.
I was born in sin
I have lived in sin all my life
I have been with Satan himself
You wont believe how handsome
How soft spoken …...

WOMAN
The hearts of
men are pure,
That I have met
Except that mine is fragile
Such frailty of mine on this subject.
What would we do without them
As men born of woman?
Take time to trace
Passing through the passage
Of your deepest thoughts
Probing with sincerity as your torch
The inner chambers of your mind
And think of what you find.
She lies bare waiting
Behind the curtain in your heart
After all the struggles of the day
After all the trophies have been gathered
She stands there waiting

VIRTUES (for Pondi Kestin)
Being noble is good and desirable
Goodness is pleasant and noble virtue
When one is good and pleasant. It’s also true
He should be praised in manner most noble.
Praise good and pleasurable experience
Shames me for I beg for it secretly
Man seeks praise deep in his dirty conscience
So he is of all creatures most greedy.
Greed is not a virtue. It is a vice
This has to be said quickly otherwise
You, my black friend, may begin to forget
Men that we are, can never be perfect.
Liberality: To give. Not to hold back

THE STORY OF BAYO
I can’t however stop you from taking
All those
stuffs you think give you good feelings
I can’t hold
you from sniffing whatever
So you can fell
what we called, the fever
But I can
afford to give you a gist
On how I came
to take drugs off my list
You should
know, by now, I grew in Warri
Where the week
only have to be sorry
In my youth, we
believed in drugs and guns
The call girls
were there to complete the fun
They drugged
the way some young men had not done.
What a fun that
frees you from all life’s fears!...

POMPOSITY
Under the whim of my luxurious caress
You loose your tongue and begin to confess
How much you love me, and quickly said yes
At my mentioning, the aisle! What a jest!
Back in time when I was a little less
You won’t even let me small your freshness
Now you’d give anything to be my guest
‘Cos I am blessed as it’s obvious as I dress
Be calm and relax in my blessedness
You don’t have much time to feel my goodness
And while you relax, I want you to guess
The brand of car I intend to buy next
- I fancy Benzes just for their sleekness
- But...

PLEASE PARDON ME
At the end of
the day
In the silence of my bed
I take off my cover cloth
I come naked before you
Carrying a black heart
And dirty iniquities
I come to you
I come to you
In spite of my muddy body
And bloody hands
I come to you
O, father
Like a child
Who had gone out
To play
With reckless friends.

THEY KEEP LIVING
I know poets will
Never be tired
of writing
As long as the heart
Of the earth
keeps beating
If somehow the
stars blacken out
And the sun
would not give light again
This will not
stop them.
When one day
the waters
Of the world
suddenly dry up
They still will
not stop
Even when they run
Out of breath
And are laid, still.
Six feet
Beneath the
earth in a deep sleep.
They still will
not stop
To write of the
equipoise
Of eternity in that
Homely pit.
Never be tired
of writing
As long as the heart
Of the earth
keeps beating
If somehow the

And the sun
would not give light again

JUST TODAY
A trip to tomorrow
Is the most drunken journey
We had ever embarked upon.
Setting to begin at cock-crow
But at noon, it already seems a folly
To keep on keeping on.
With roads rough, winding and narrow
And heavy loads of dream we carry.
Hardly ever a stop for fun.
We grew tense with sorrow
Even though we were very many
And always had someone to lean on.
Now, it’s obvious we'd never get to tomorrow.
It is such a journey
That will continue until we are gone.

To keep on keeping on.

Men Only
The young women
Mock us in silence
When we vehemently
ignore them
In the light of day.
Saying they
carry bread and stew
To the three-path junction;
That they have flowers
At the place where
Three paths meet;
That it is not good
For the traditional African man.
They mocks us in the secret
Chambers of ferminity
Because they know that
In the dark shades
Of our closets,
We keep leaking or licking
Till we reveal
What happened in ‘69.
When swollen men were made
To kiss the same spot
Where they...

Going Places
I’d like to travel round my continent
And I will (begad grace) it’s my prescience
I dream of traveling around the globe
As much time as I can actually go
Though this seems utterly foolish and vague
If one considers my financial weight
But once I dream, I fight with zeal
Despite oddities to make it real
So I am waiting for the day
I’ll go to stay a few days in Norway
One day, I‘ll visit Greece
To have a feel of its breeze
The next day
I’ll be greeting someone in Tanzania
That I am a
poet and I come from Nigeria
And I am on...

Thinking
Much thinking got me thinking
I have been thinking nothing.
I know a king so very thin.
Anytime I come by him,
I can’t help myself thinking
What could make a king so thin?
I have been thinking nothing.
I know a king so very thin.
Anytime I come by him,
I can’t help myself thinking
What could make a king so thin?
