POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Singing from the hill
You can hear the singing,
Wafting across the bleak suburban vales.
From the new religious palace,
High upon the hill.
Calling to all of the faithful,
The down hearted and the ill.
~
Come into our welcoming arms,
Bring your family and your friends.
But remember to bring your money,
Or your credit cards; we’ll even take a cheque;
Because you know a ticket into heaven never comes cheap.
~
We can heal your broken heart,
Help you to walk once again.
Just don’t ask any of the hard questions,
Trust in our faith. ...

Angel by my side
The sweetest words I’ve ever heard,
Are “I love you” spoken from the heart.
The safest place I’ve ever graced,
Is within your arms;
And it’s this memory that holds me when we’re apart.
~
The two of us are always together,
Even when we’re apart.
I can’t even dream of a future,
Where you don’t hold my heart.
~
The greatest joy I’ve ever known,
Is coming home to your love.
And this memory eases my grief,
When I have to leave; And face my life alone.

Up the road
Slowly the blip upon the radar screen grows,
As the dark smudge upon the horizon,
Resolves it’s self into a foreign port,
Which is our longed for destination.
The day ripens and brightens,
And our excitement heightens,
As structures sharpen into focus,
Rising out of the background,
Revealing the hallmarks of civilisation.
~
The deep blue of the open seas,
Lighten into turquoise shades,
Of the changing coastal fringes,
And we can clearly see through the crystal waters,
Down to the smooth sandy bottom,
Colourful shoals and reefs,...

Hiding behind the blue line
A songwriter changes his tune,
So as not to prejudice the case against the man in blue.
Rough justice in an island paradise,
The law is on your side, but only if you are white.
~
In a watch house, late one night,
The man in blue laughs as another drunk,
Puts up a desperate fight.
~
“Sleep it off you bum”
as the jackboot swings in.
“Learn your place boy,
and know that you can never really win”
~
Caged like a beaten animal,
And locked in a lonely cell.
A man is left frightened,
In a pain filled hell.

From the "Mist of Avalon
I remember all of those years ago,
When I thought that we would just be friends.
I shared the "Mists of Avalon" with you,
To help your broken heart to mend.
Somehow, within it's sagas,
I felt the future of us, even then.
Though I was blind to this dream,
My heart knew the truth and so did my pen.
~
And on the day of our first union,
I remember feeling, this is so right.
As your vision that day confirmed it,
With our spiritual kin applauding, saying, " Well it's about time"
I truly knew then babe,
What it was like to...

Dreamers Wanted
To live in a brighter future,
With less sorrow and pain.
To find within ourselves the healing,
And that harmonious balance again.
We need people with dreams,
And the courage to believe.
We need open hearts and minds,
And souls that are truly free.
We need compassion for all,
And especially ourselves.
And we need each other,
More than anything else.
Apply within.
With less sorrow and pain.
To find within ourselves the healing,

Sapphires and Emeralds
I watched rainbows,
Play across the sapphire blue waves.
As the sun sparkled,
Through the wind blown waves.
I thought of you my love,
So very far away.
And held both of these jewels of memory,
To help me through the cloudy days.
*
That night as the sea,
Rocked me gently into slumber.
I found my spirit set free,
And was again in the arms of you my lover.
Far from the sapphire blue waves,
And the wide open skies.
Into the emerald green pastures,
Within the beautiful stoney rises.

A day on our blue planet
Dawn blooms anew
With the colours of spring’s flowers.
As day blazes out of the vague mists
Of the twilight hours.
~
As our bright star; Sol
Steps free from night’s horizon.
Beginning his daily journey
Away from the darkness of night’s time.
~
Mirroring the distant horizon
With a water coloured scene.
Morning’s glory reflected
Upon the silken surface of a calm sea.
~
The day brightens and ripens
All of dawn’s painted hues.
Into the fresh crispness
Of summer’s sweet fruit.
~
Until Sol grows into the bright richness...

Divine Reflections
Divine reflections.
Jews, Christians, Muslims,
and religions of ever hue.
All believe that they are the chosen ones,
And the keepers of the truth.
They all say that God loves them,
But they can’t really love themselves.
All are striving to find heaven,
While making their own hells.
~
Their religion belittles them,
Making history of learning tales.
Setting out unreachable goals,
So that everyone fails.
Hiding from themselves,
Their self loathing and guilt of sin.
Incomplete and broken,
Honest discovery cannot even begin....

Without Wings or Horns
Religion tells us heaven awaits,
As long as we blindly follow;
The tenants of their faith.
The clergy tells us,
They can absolve us;
Of any inhumane action.
If we truly repent
or in God’s name we have acted.
~
We are told,
That only they hold the truth.
And all of the others,
Are following a lie.
So don’t ask any difficult questions,
Don’t ask why.
Just have faith in their words of God,
Don’t open your mouth or eyes.
~
I say “listen to your own heart”
“Open your mind and your eyes”
Find your own truth,
Don’t...
