POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
not all damsels have to be in distress
You might have just enough for nothing' said the fisherman
who'd spent his entire day teaching
his young man to fish
to the farm girl
who'd spent her days teaching
her father's cats to catch mice
before she even knew what death was when it was born.
The next day
the fisherman lost his fish and
the girl
no longer tied to the farm due to her meeting with death when it was dead
knew that cats with nothing to protect had
no need to catch new mice all day
not even for sport.
They had nothing to prove anymore
and nothing was just...

as his head slowly retracts into the depths of his trachea
lick the smoke off me
I don't want to smell it anymore
try to breathe softly
when inside you're shaken to the core
no more lies, a lie is just a perfect night on fire
waiting to be cold
I have to, I ask my questions loudly
questions asked loudly are questions from the bold
speak softly the words you mean
the words that always make me sick
you've had me for quite some time now
so take your pick, what about me's old?

maybe this is a question
maybe the end of all,
which is what
will never be severed
is all that there is
and maybe the never will be
because it hasn't been
will never become the present
which the past was promised in the future
and maybe it's okay

honesty or telling the truth?
I live by what I know to be the truth
but there's no real reason
to think that
truth
is worth
anything. Why
are you always smiling
when I know inside you want to die?

constructed like a thought
I never even realized until now that you can clean shit stains off the bottom of the toilet bowl with a paper towel so long as you wash your hands damn well
when you're done;
I still prefer to just piss at them until they go away.

SoBe without Çamlica is a glass half-empty
I see a drink that I took
from the fridge sitting
on the counter
unopened
and I realize
it's an abandoned thought
that I've finally
come back to
but only when it was convenient
for me
and I wonder if it's actually too late
perhaps the drink will still taste the same but
the setting
the time
the moment
has changed
I left that thought on the counter
and when I finally came back to it
it had already moved on
to something better
and that is for the best.

a point of uncertainty
I've heard it said
that there's this part of your brain
that stays alive 100 years after the rest
dies
and that's heaven
but that's bullshit
because if heaven doesn't last
forever
that means every time I said
something felt like heaven
I was really saying
that it was going
to end
so if that's the case, fuck it
take one hundred years to read finish the rest of this poem

toothpaste and cigar smoke
makes a great breakfast
when you know everything
will soon be over
and you did everything
to make that
happen
I chew
on that thought
for quite a while
and I look up to see
what they see
the rocket is moving
leaving its streak in the sky
it's hard to see from here
but I know
the arc will be two degrees too
great
to achieve perfect orbit
and if not corrected
I'll have made something
last forever
even if nothing
is ever really gone
the rocket will always be
and I'll always be who I am
so I might...

Cookie Cake Blues
I'm just a
lonely cookie cake I'm sittin'
here all day just
waitin' for someone to
take me sittin' here
with the baked goods
baked goods just makin' me look bad
I got
frosting: month-old buttermilk
chocolate chips just waitin' to grow some mold
preservatives don't work as well with humidity
and all I've learned is one single lesson in humility
I'm just a
ugly cookie cake
I get a one, single, double, triple
quadruple take ev'ry time
a shopper comes in lookin'
to take a cake
home for
the family holiday...

we can stay here (chapter 2)
because she looks hungry on that tape
yeah, she looks so fine in the limelight
in the sickly green she might have been
A girl I know or a place I've seen'
Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero)
These were certainly interesting times. Amidst the wake of several catastrophes struggling for dominance over the globe's attention, we saw a startling development in the area of human thought. The organizations were increasing in number by the day, and the plan must have worked perfectly, because nobody seemed to notice the world's (former) major religions toppling...

Chapter 1
'a well of hope cast in the mirrored
light ~ like the serpent crawls
through the crust ~ the cool summer
breeze soothes my naked skin ~ and
the background in itself is
a whole other world ~ with
cold kisses and desperate sex ~
not robed in plastic fibre
wings ~ carry on i'll plunder
you ~ longing to be loved ~
like swarming bees ~ licking
their tongues dry ~ like
in a slow dream'
-Lengsel (from The Kiss - The Hope)
'I believe in making sacrifices for personal gain' is the last thought that goes through...

All the Ways!
Matt looked out the window with happy thoughts on his mind. After all, this might be the last bit of sunlight he would ever see. Having remained indoors all summer, he hadn't realized how late the sun was still up. Turning back to the task at hand, he continued sorting through another heap of clothes, checking the pockets on every garment. He remembered driving to the drugstore to get a midnight snack earlier in the week, so his keys must still be among that week's dirty laundry. This was the last step in his plan, and it was taking much longer than he'd expected. Four months ago, Matt's...
