1864 Sunnyside 3
1864 Sunnyside continued-3
Axson had just finished loading the wagon at Sunnyside with all of Ophelia's delicious food - fried chicken, turnips, deviled eggs, hoecakes, peach pie, and even a birthday cake! His mouth was watering and he couldn't resist the temptation of sliding his finger through the icing and tasting it - "Wow, this cake is sho-nuff sweet!" he smiled. Ophelia, a bit bewildered, whacked him with a straw broom and playfully scolded him, "Axson, what ARE you doing? Get away from that cake!" Axson just chuckles and replies, "Calm down, Ophelia....

1864 Sunnyside continued-2
Henry was just finishing his breakfast when Mary Ann reminded him of his father's request. "Yes ma'am," he reluctantly responded. On his way to the chicken house, Henry stopped to reward his dog with a bacon treat from breakfast. Suddenly, he was startled by a loud voice saying “Good Morning Hen!" and turned to see Axson. "Good Morning sir," Henry replied. "Father asked me to tell you to hitch up a wagon and bring it to the kitchen, as we are going a picnic today, and it being Sallie's birthdays and all." Sunnyside 1864 pt-1
1864 Sunnyside
On the 16th of September, 1864, Sunnyside Plantation was alive with the sound of a rooster crowing as the sun began to cast its golden rays through the cedar trees that were adorned with Spanish moss. The gentle autumn breeze was a harmonious backdrop to the start of a new day.
Sallie Virginia was filled with joy as morning light began to dance in the window of her room. With barely a moment's thought, she hurried to get dressed in her favorite outfit, before scampering down the stairs in search of breakfast. There, in the hall, she encountered her...

Good and Bad
Rain on the cotton
It’s what made my Grandad
Nice straight rows
Is all he had
Summers were hot
winters were not
Spring and fall, between the good and bad
My Grandma believed
In the golden rule
She lived her life
For a one room school
Summers were a vacation
winters were a education
Spring and fall, between the good and bad
Between the good and bad
It’s wasn’t the material things they had
They found happiness
Between the good and bad
It’s what made my Grandad

Until
Do you ever find an old dirt road
And just drive like you’re alive
One hand on the shifter
Playing your favorite song while singing along
The other on the wheel
Until you find a rhyme that takes you back in time
Do you ever just sit on an old front porch
Watch the moon rise until you feel alive
In a squeaky wooden chair
And just rock until is 12 o’clock
Nothing but the sound of the whippoorwills
Until you find the person you left behind
I wish every sunrise peaked through Spanish Moss
I wish every road...
And just drive like you’re alive
One hand on the shifter

Things I Know To Be True From Experience
Everyday, everyone has to choose between good and evil. Our choices define our destiny.
The only threat a woman has, is the threat of another woman.
A dog is truly a person’s best friend, sometimes their only friend.
Money has no real value. Its value comes from the values of the people that earn it.
If a nail will not drive into a piece of wood without bending... run the nail through your hair, between your head and hat band.
When there are 3 or more men working together, all the men will band together and single out one to make fun...

My Mother’s Love
I never realized all that you gave
With unconditional love
I never realized all the sacrifices you made
You held me when I was afraid
With the softness of a glove
I never realized all that you gave
Your strength made me behave
With heavenly hands from above
I never realized all the sacrifices you made
You taught my heart to be brave
With compassion thereof
I never realized all that you gave
You showed me only God can save
With devotion of a turtle dove

Deeper Shade Of Blue
Most days I greatly miss you
Today it’s a deeper shade of blue
All I can think about is the falls
And the wind through the pines
Just three doors down was our sound
Now memories are just laying around
Like broken pieces of liquid glass
Between the ripples the reflection is missing you
When the midnight hour is upon me
And the stars no longer shine
Your memories are like stones
They only hurt when I crash on them alone
I heard life had gotten out of control
And you almost lost your soul
I can...

A Sacrifice Of
Forgiveness and love
A nailed scarred hand
On the wings of a dove
A Light from above
Not as a command
Forgiveness and love
No open shove
A victory planned
On the wings of a dove
Endurance without a glove
A cross not a stand
Forgiveness and love
A sacrifice of
They don’t understand
On the wings of a dove
The spirit thereof
Arose across the land
Forgiveness and love
On the wings of a dove
A nailed scarred hand
On the wings of a dove

Daydreams
I had a dream, you were there
We met in a familiar place
As the sound of seagulls filled the air
The wind gently blowing your hair
We walked along the shore without a trace
I had a dream, you were there
We reminisce of the secrets we share
Holding each other like leather and lace
As the sound of seagulls filled the air
I was captivated with this affair
Hanging on to memories without disgrace
I had a dream, you were there
I was awakened in despair
I searched...
