POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Comedy writer and also write serious stuff from the heart when I'm in the mood. Without humour life has no real balance and we take ourselves too seriously. I use humour as armour against the slings and arrows of outrageous circumstance. ;-)

Nobody's Prize
Mummy has been very naughty, Archie, she went with another man, and now she wants to take you away, Archie, you, my only son.’
Archie sobbed, a tear started down his cheek, why was his father so angry? What had he done wrong? Had he been naughty? He reached up to his father’s arms and felt himself being lifted into the warm security of daddy’s chest. He was enveloped in strong arms that squeezed a little too tightly. He burst into a torrent of tears as the misery of the last few weeks poured out of him.
The first three and a half years of Archie’s life had been blissful and...

D-Day 75
I stood with the old men on the beach of harsh memories
Their past out of reach to me; history only they can see.
Looking back to the great attack
Landing craft abeam and abaft spilling fearful, determined men
Into blood churned waters of destruction
The waves, the undertow’s suction
Dragging comrades to their doom, men who only hours ago talked of home
Smoking and nervously joking
Thinking of loved ones left behind, their children crying as they are dying
Bullet pierced, torn by shrapnel shards or sinking down to drown
The helpless...

Poetic Poke
You read my poetry and now you sneer
At poetic principals that I hold most dear
I see you aspire to be known as a wit
Nasty, sarcastic little shit
So, congratulations clever sage
A wit? You've only reached the halfway stage

Death of Democracy
You who put the mock into democracy sneer
At everything that we hold dear
No freedom of thought, all blend into one
Individuality finished, gone
No-platform those with differing views
Spread your message with more fake news
Young minds full of idealism
Chant your right-on catechism
PC comedians tell bland jokes
Fearful of offending sensitive folks
The silent majority looks on aghast
As democracy breathes its last
Pave the way for your own demise
As all are made to fit one size
Reduce the nation to...

The Brat
A bodyguard’s job may seem glamorous to an outsider, just matter of following some VIP around and deterring people from approaching them with hard stares and the occasional push. The reality is far different. Long hours of constant alertness drain the body and exhaust the mind. Boredom is the stealthy enemy that can kill when you least expect it. He had seen this happen in Iraq.
Dawson Jukes was more than tired, he was drained. It had been a long, hard day, the woman hadn’t shut up his whole shift with her endless wants and demands. No wonder she was a rap star, she never closed her...

Serenade of the Spheres
You play my notes as through me floats
The waves of my wanton soul
My goal, your sacred yoni to immerse
In my universe
Where stars form pubic pools
And minstrels, who care,
Who dare
To reach for the beach
Of the sands of time reach
Your folds divine
Play my instrument sublime
Above the cooling earth shall our love,
Joy and mirth converge
Satiate my desire, stroke my lusty lyre
With the fires of your kiss
Light my heart
Until, the vibration,
Your interpretation fades
Then shall I weep ...

End of Days
The indigo sky cries, for beneath it lies
The remnants of nature killed through lack of nurture
Children ask parents why? Why does the Earth die?
Because we didn’t care. Because we wouldn’t share,
As long as we were alright, we ignored the plight
Of the other. Yes, he was our brother,
But he was poor with nothing to give
So, he wasn’t allowed to live.
He committed the crime of poverty
Not deliberately, but who cares? Who shares?
With those without the means to support our dreams
So, we who were strong took and took
With no...

Short Backsides
Oh, God, Jill, look who’s crossing the road.’
Jill followed June's pointing finger.
‘Oh, no, not Short Backsides, it can’t be time for him already, surely?’
June looked at her sister, her mouth downturned, her pale blue eyes pained ‘I’m afraid so, it has been about six weeks.’
Jill groaned, she’d had a bad day so far, Billy, her five-year-old, hadn’t wanted to go to school that morning and had to be dragged kicking and screaming. Isobel, his nine-month-old sister had puked on her on as she was being readied for nursery putting her way behind time.
The two women...

Rat Pie
Why would anyone eat a rat? I mean, seriously, why would any sane, rational person kill, cook and eat rats?
As a ten-year-old, I was attending the funeral of an elderly great aunt when I noticed a strange old man in an ill-fitting suit staring at me. He was tall, his frame was big and sturdy, thick wrists protruded from his jacket sleeves. His face looked careworn and tanned to the colour of my brown Sunday shoes. It was his rheumy blue eyes that struck me most, they looked so kindly and yet so sad. It was like he’d witnessed every sin and wickedness this world had to offer....

Religion be Damned
I saw their souls, their souls were whole
I saw their religion, it was divisive
My way is right they said
Ergo everyone else must be wrong
Same reason for killing
Same old song
Think ye then that your god is so small
So narrow that he/she built but one path to the well?
Do tell, your dogma denies you the power of thought
The priests of perdition ought
To cast aside all pride
Rejoice with one voice
We are but microbes on a grain of sand
Spinning on an endless beach eternally
So, beg, beseech, howl, screech ...
