POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am a habitual line crosser with an uncensored and often degenerate mouth, so if I offend please, please accept my in advance apology and as always please don't be scared to critique brutally.
Painted with fingers in the rain
Light
Reflected on the water
Like razors
Cutting through
Gentle ripples of spring breeze
Two translucent souls
Sitting
Among bird song and squirrel frolic
Waiting for the roses in June
Tranquil
In love
Waiting to be lovers
Perfection spoken
As an unbroken silence
In still-life
Painted with fingers in the rain
We were the first souls
Free from the tyranny of cool
Entangled, our spirits rode the wind
As dragonflies do
Swirling, diving, taking flight at instant without thought of...

I would know it was you
Even in another life masked
Masquerading as strangers
I would know
It was you
Hiding amongst the shadows
Cast in the concrete
Far away from familiar
South O
Even across the DMZ
Looking past words like enemies
And hate
I would know it was you
Across the typhoons of time
I will love you
In a cave
In the desert
Listening to “Lucy in the Sky…”
Those diamonds are emeralds
Set in my heart
The most precious of jewels
Not of stone
But flesh

Sunlight
Reflecting on the alkaline waters
Of the Salt Creek
Through the brush, now naked
In cool of December, I wonder
Where are they hiding?
I wonder, where are the Tiger Beetles?
Here on the banks of Loess, soft and lovely
This salty creek winding through the Prairies breast
They make their last stand
Today we will remain as strangers
Among shadows and footprints I leave behind

sickening
I got up this morning from a sleepless painful night
I went to read the news
A woman gangraped
A woman pistol-whipped and robbed
In the cold outside a food bank
If this is the normal that we must come to accept
Then excuse me if I must say
Fuck that

It is a heavy Friday in August
My disguise is a white tee-shirt
Wet from sweat around the collar
I could smell the sick from my pits
Under a vacation button up
I bought last week, it fit just right
Now the palm trees are stretched and distorted
Like a hurricane across my guts
Useless, just like all the rest
Bloated with disgust
My wife was The Cop transporting The Prisoner
Taking me back to the place
Where they profit from sickness
The Machine could not wait to irradiate me
The Surgeon told me
It’s the good kind of radiation
Trust me,...

Her eyes darted around
Not meant to meet mine
This is the stuff that they dread
As much we dread hearing it
No one will say the word
That word
They dance around it
With other ones in its place
Lump
Masses
Then the phrases
You need to get his done soon
You’ll be Ok without that too
An appointment
And another
And Scans…
Radioactive scans
Then when you get home
To tell your kids
Your eyes water up
Your throat begins to crackle
Salt Flats tongue
Iodine lies fill your mind...

A narrative
The raving of a mind
ruptured by DID
Born somatic and whole
without stains or disgrace
Who knew, “not me,” I would say to me
To that other perspective
Behind the same face… “face it, they hate you, they will kill you,”
I knew my name was Rasputin
Sometimes
I could talk to my dreams
duality
got the best…

Remember like I do?
Touching each other’s
Brand new stolen toys
We knew, oh we knew
If we were slick, and if we were quick
We could play with them for a while
Then slip them back on the shelf
Giggles and smiles like wet razors
Better to play with someone else’s
Brand new stolen toys

I wish that I still knew how to cry
It is the time of darkness
Hatred brews like burnt coffee inside
This giving of thanks makes me sick
It only reminds me of death
Tastes like bitter regrets
I hope that this year it’s me
These days turn dark too quickly
Dead men riding mares in the night
Telling stories of grief and horror
Hit like bullets shot out from the past
Countless souls lost all around looking
To find a way back home
But among them I never find
The one who I seek, awake and in sleep
To speak to one last time, to tell him
I...

Recycled metal
I am a broken robot
Take me to that sacred place
Where useless machines go
When they can no longer spot weld the left front fender on a Honda
Take me home, oh take me home
I need to be recycled my salvage-tion awaits
In the dumpster labeled
Scrap metal only!
(no concrete, no oil, no tires)
Among a congregation of old toasters
Dented up air conditioner cases and
Rusted out water heaters
Waiting to reborn, to help make
America great in the broken robot paradise
Maybe they will become a hydraulic cylinder...

I Wish I Knew How to Make Friends
I feel like a kid on stage who forgot his lines in the school play.
The spotlight burning at my eyes.
The dead sound of someone off stage clearing their throat
Waving their hands in a motion that speaks, “C’mon dumbass…”
See, I know how I fucked up.
I fucked up by being born.
I fucked up being born into a poor white family next to the Stockyards.
Slaughterhouses everywhere – what was I thinking? I could have picked anywhere but here.
I would know how to make friends if I was smart enough to have been born somewhere else.
It’s...
