POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Love Me Selfishly
you can't always get what you want
bargaining away the pain seems so futile
just to wake up the next morning,
knowing they'll never look at you
like they want to pounce you and take you for their own.
use me, but love me, and hold me when you're done.
cry into my chest and say you've never been so happy,
so we both fall asleep with smiles on our faces.
instead of those pained grimaces we stare into
when we inevitably wake in the middle of the night.
bargaining away the pain seems so futile
just to wake up the next morning,
knowing they'll never look at you
like they want to pounce you and take you for their own.
use me, but love me, and hold me when you're done.
cry into my chest and say you've never been so happy,

No One Said It'd Be Easy
i create art in unconventional ways
i write lines on people’s minds,
sing songs to their souls,
and paint stories so vivid
even i might believe them.
i create storms in ways only man can.
tell lies to sooth the worried, tired heart
fake smiles and laugh from the belly
while screaming in my head
“please shut the fuck up, already”
it isn’t easy being an artist,
i’ve never had to starve to make my art,
though my relationships at times do look a little famished,
and i, too, see hunger in myself.
nothing hits the spot.
but this...

Rainbow
when you see a rainbow
arching high over the earth
do you expect gold to be at the end?
are you disappointed when you find nothing?
appreciate it for what it is
you’ll only wear yourself down
expecting so much from this
the gold is the rainbow.

there’s a movement in her soul
too frantic to capture on film
and a shimmer in her eyes
that’s how she lets me in
there’s a secret on her lips
too bold to speak aloud
and a guilt that weighs on her
that always keeps her down
but her flaws are nothing,
just quirks and character
i’ve known no one that’s perfect
i’m certainly no better
we help each other silently
or sometimes it’s aloud
we kiss each other softly
and hold hands through the crowds
when i’m with her i’m numb
to all life’s pain
when she’s...

April
our love was like April
swift and fleeting
carrying storms wherever it goes
and though our love survived the harsh winter before
it defrosted among the dandelions
we promised we would make wishes on

we scream with our mouths shut
we hope to god someone will hear us
through the tightly sealed lips
we dare not split
in fear we may say what needed to be said all along
we internalize everything
hundreds of shelves line the our hearts
countless bottled up experiences that we can’t let go
in fear of what may happen if those monsters were loose
unfortunately we keep a full stock of empty bottles
in case another finds it’s way into us
we hope to god someone will hear us
through the tightly sealed lips
we dare not split

ghost
please don’t be a ghost
you fade in my dreams just like
you did in my life
you fade in my dreams just like
you did in my life

affection
i want to read every book you’ve read,
just to get a better feel for you,
to touch the same pages you did,
to add a few more creases to the spine.
i don’t care for whose fingerprints had been left behind on you,
when i touch you i know it’s not just another number.
it’s the waves hitting the shore,
silencing the sand, saying that everything’s alright.
those drunken moonlit nights
your fingers always touch my bicep
before ending laced together with mine
at that point in time i’m always okay
i keep a journal of the things you’ve...
