POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Annie has been an amateur poet for roughly seven years, writing mainly on the world around her in remarkably cheerful or strange terms.
Human
I am human deep down inside,
Though my eyes (open wide)
Could be those of a creature deep
In darkened woods where devils sleep.
And I am capable, all the while,
All the while, to cry and to smile
At the same damn time.
This is mine, the endless room
That contains nothing, and
Your face is yours but mine
In captured memories. I recall
That the wind was cold and crisp
But warmed my face and
Made the both of us match
In toothy smiles like children.
I am human: I do not make sense.
I am economically conservative,
But a...

The Flight of Man
There's no rush, you know, slow down.
Circle the area, scope the room.
Smile at the beautiful, mingle.
It's a loud crowd, I know,
But nothing hurries here.
She looks. And why did you run: beautiful eyes,
The deep dark of the cave from whence man came -
The cave that Plato led us from, and oh,
We must be the philosopher kings,
To wish to delve back in. Why did you run?
Eternity lay there, a lifetime of nothingness,
And it was so attractive then, for a moment,
And a moment is all.
Clatter on the stairs
And rattle, rattle on the...

Whatever We Do
Secrets, secrets,
I live in secret
With secret names
And secret wants
And secret spellings for the words I said;
I can show you
A world you could not imagine
Merely because I can
And I can show you
Anything you want
And I will even,
If you want,
Spin them out until you believe me.
And, by the way?
The things I always somehow forgot to say?
Like what you meant
And what I wanted
And why, in the end,
It would all be okay?
All those little things that I can speak of
And never say the words?
Well, by the way,...
I live in secret
With secret names
And secret wants
And secret spellings for the words I said;
I can show you
A world you could not imagine
Merely because I can

Nightclub Corners
She's a different woman here under
Flashing lights and shudder-sound;
She bounces with the floor,
And she wouldn't notice the world
Unless the bass stopped
And the dizzy-dizzy husk
Of sparkle smoky air
In the backstreet basement club
With no name stills and is washed away
Until the sun pours in through the walls.
She's got a vacant smile when she isn't
Yelling out lyrics even she can't hear
And how does she know she speaks at all?
She's in her own land even when she dances
With the other men and women and smiles
Into their slick...

And Here We Are
You're not my type.
It's as simple as that to defend
And easier to hide, because
I'm not lying.
You're not conventionally attractive.
You're not conventional at all.
And I suppose I should be thankful
Because if you were, in the lecture hall,
I wouldn't have noticed you at all.
And no matter, here we are,
Mismatched and moulded.
My hearing is ruined
From turning out to see your band
Even though I hate your music.
And though you don't understand
You follow me and my camera over mountains
Just to be bored.
