cold water and crocodile tears
involuntary or acquiescence
understanding does not exist after only ninety sols
allegedly absolved
fixated on malevolence not yet present
because resentment like this is not inborn it’s taught
resentment-
cathedrals and stained glass
constraining or depressing
hymns do not always bring peace
an inimical environment within the minds
of those who have yet to find comfort in their own heartbeats
because acceptance is not a commandment

I could blame you for so many things
In my head
I think I do
They made me go to a shrink
Forced me to ride thirty-five minutes every Tuesday night
Made me draw a picture of a frowning face on construction paper
"How does that make you feel?"
It made me hate them
In my head
I think I do
I won't see you again
I've never believed in something less than God
My brain rejects the idea that death is the beginning of something beautiful
There are times, many times
That I think they think that makes me a monster

Ten years, five months, three weeks
I've had a lot of time to think
I burned all three letters
All unread
I don't hate you
I never could
And I'm not mad
But I haven't seen your sister in seven years
I haven't picked up the phone to call her either
And she looks like you now
But instead she looks happy
I'm not sure how to process that
I don't look at the color red the same way
Shallow water makes me anxious
Sometimes I wonder
If I hit three more stop lights ...

When I close my eyes at night I see you
With big blue eyes
Standing under street lights
Promising the future
Being reckless and wild and young
I remember the way your hand felt in mine
The way you'd kiss me seven times before you left
I remember being crazy
I'd do anything for you
Go anywhere for you
Be anyone for you
Maybe that's too much for a twenty-one year old
A kid that hasn't seen the world
But I was yours
That's what I wanted to be

“Well, we can’t all be robots like you.”

“You’re being rude.”
“Stand up for yourself.”
“Look at me when you’re speaking young lady.”
“Why do you have to be so abrasive?”
“Get over it!”
“Why are you so fixated on this?”
“God damn it! Look me in the eye!”

Indecisive
Apathetic
Torn
A number of adjectives have been used to describe my inability to make decisions. I've always found it difficult to pick a side, choose a label, follow a movement blindly.
It's difficult to commit myself to something that seems so final and unchanging.
It's absurd to assume I won't change my mind in an hour, in a month; when I see the world a little differently.
I currently find myself in this unique position. Not indifferent; I feel like this is a forced indecision.
Black lives matter.
And...

The Benefits of Technology Pt 2
The last voice I really listened to was automated. I asked Siri for the number to the pizza shop down the street. I didn't want to walk past my parents to go to the kitchen. Then I got too nervous to call and ordered delivery online instead.
