POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
We're All a Little Scared
I take her hand
On the porch we stand
She looks down
I know something’s wrong
She’s been holding a secret for too long
She comes clean to me
Releases the chains of secrecy
I hold her to my chest
Her head, I caress
She wept into my shirt
I feel morose
Not knowing how long she’d held this hurt
I feel guilt
I should’ve protected her
I should’ve been there
I wish she’d known that someone cared
I wasn’t ready for this
I was unprepared
I’m unsure what to do
I hold her close
and tell her that we’re all a little scared
On the porch we stand
She looks down
I know something’s wrong
She’s been holding a secret for too long
She comes clean to me
Releases the chains of secrecy
I hold her to my chest
Her head, I caress
She wept into my shirt
I feel morose
Not knowing how long she’d held this hurt
I feel guilt
I should’ve protected her
I should’ve been there
I wish she’d known that someone cared
I wasn’t ready for this
I was unprepared
I’m unsure what to do
I hold her close
and tell her that we’re all a little scared

The Black Conservative
My people disappoint me
They seem to be lost in a sea
A sea of entitlement and self-pity
What happened to the ones who took personal responsibility?
Where are the ones who believed in living self-sufficiently?
Who started thinking the government should support us fiscally?
The role of the government is to maintain domestic security
And to keep the economy flowing smoothly without overstepping its boundaries
Where is your pride? Where is your dignity?
You live for that Electronic Benefit Transfer
It’s a metaphorical cancer
I would be down with the...
