BOTICELLI VENUS
Rising up demurely from a shell
Amidst a most turbulent sea swell.
Her red tresses trickle from her head,
Mostly behind like tail extended,
But some held over her pudenda,
A scene at once both hot and tender.
Her right hand covering her right breast
Leaves the other exposed on her chest.
There is both innocence in her eyes
And prescience of the age-old wise.
Her name would connote unchastity
But she shows maiden-like modesty
With her skin an alabaster white,
She steps, immaculate, into sight.
A pretty sight to rouse the penis –...

ODE TO CHIYO
German Deep Underground poetess, who is a keen motorbiker. This was inspired by a profile picture of her, helmetless, in black leather jacket but showing smooth stockinged legs. Published with her consent.
Some think us Amazons, armoured in leather,
Spout “Women and motorbikes don’t go together.”
While others assume that women bikers are ‘butch’,
Interest in opposite sex nil or not much,
That such interests are manifestly
A kink within our sexual identity.
I say, in the face of such blinkered mockings,
I keep smooth legs, am at home in silk...

'DEAR JOHN' LETTER - FROM ADELE
(Lines from her songs are buried in this verse.)
Who’d have thought SOMEONE LIKE YOU
Would turn out to be untrue?
I’d be yours till THE SKYFALL,
You said, in your phone-y call.
Us two COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL;
You fooled around at the ball.
Oh what biscuit do you take,
Saying this was a mistake?
I’ve FIRE STARTING IN MY HEART
To consume you and that tart.
You have caused me such great pain
I would SET FIRE TO THE RAIN;
To see you burn, as in Hell.
Signed: Your angry ‘ex’, ADELE.

KING HENRY CONTEMPLATES MARRYING ANNE BOLEYN
An imagined musing by the King when he was wanting to divorce his older wife Katherine of Aragon (who failed to give him live male heirs), anticipating remarriage and heirs with Anne Boleyn. He was convinced he could sire sons following the birth of his illegitimate son Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Somerset, by former mistress Bessie Blount in 1519, and equally convinced that Katherine’s failure to give him heirs was divine punishment for marrying a woman who had been his brother’s (Prince Arthur’s) wife. The Pope would not grant him a divorce, but he went ahead and also broke with the Church of...

MY EVERY WISH
Friends say of you, “She’s quite a dish”;
To me, you are My Every Wish –
For a beauty to share my life,
Become my long-awaited wife;
For commitment and family,
And intimate fidelity;
For someone to grow older with,
Reciprocating, take-and-give;
For good health and security,
For one who can be there for me.

For one who can be there for me.

INVITATION TO SWIM
I am feeling in the mood
To go swimming in the nude;
Would you like to come with me,
Sharing in the nudity?
There’s a remote country pool
Whose water is clear and cool.
Don’t get hung up about shape,
There’ll be no one here to gape.
Let’s get into make-believe
We’re in the shoes(?) of Adam-Eve!
In nearby blossom bushes
We undress, sparing blushes,
Then to water’s edge we’ll dash
And create a double SPLASH!
With water above nipples
We’ll linger to watch ripples,
Then, like seals, swim around free
As...

HENRY VIII ON ANNE BOLEYN
(An imagined rant by Henry VIII after discovering reports his second wife had had adulterous and incestuous liaisons. She was imprisoned in the Tower of London and executed after being found guilty of “Adultery, Incest and Treason”.)
King Henry’s heart had turned to stone,
All thoughts of love from him had flown,
In their place his anger had grown.
“That harlot hath not slept alone;
By other men she has been known -
And one her very flesh and bone!
Such sin on earth can I condone?
In Bible times she’d get the stone!
Unfit to sit beside my throne,...

ODE TO CHRISTINE KEELER AND PROFUMO SCANDAL
(Another recent sex-and-politics poem. Based on her famous nude 'Scandal' photo.)
Why are you sitting there
In a back-to-front chair,
Face framed by long, loose hair
And propped up by arms pair?
Inviting men to stare
Upon your body bare?
Is that the means by where
You were Profumo’s snare,
Catching him unaware
When he had that affair?
About him did you care
He was not yours to share?
What trouble did upflare
Within the public glare!
Cheat, then lie John P. dare,
His wife’s feelings to spare.
To House he did declare...

ODE TO EDWINA CURRIE
(This was written since Edwina revealed her extra-marital relationship with future Prime Minister while she was government Health Minister in the 1980s. How seriously would her not always well-worded health pronouncements have been taken if that had been known at the time?)
Who will heed your health advice in a hurry,
Now, Edwina Jones, the ex-Mrs Currie?
You told an interviewer, “Sex is fun”,
But Mr Currie was not your only one.
You told our young women not to “screw around”
When in bath with John Major you could be found.
