POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Crying Break
All day I keep it locked inside of me
Don't want the world to see
What you have done to me
But when the sun goes down and it grows dark
It's time to take, a crying break
And rest my heart.
I watch the clock until it's time to go
My, but the hours go slow
I hope my tears don't show
The last thing that I need is sympathy
Just let me take, a crying break
That's all I need
Bridge:
I'll find a place where lights are low
And no-one knows my name
Have a drink, try not to think
While tears run down like rain ...
Don't want the world to see
What you have done to me
But when the sun goes down and it grows dark
It's time to take, a crying break
And rest my heart.
I watch the clock until it's time to go
My, but the hours go slow
I hope my tears don't show
The last thing that I need is sympathy
Just let me take, a crying break
That's all I need
Bridge:
I'll find a place where lights are low
And no-one knows my name
Have a drink, try not to think
While tears run down like rain ...

Fernandez
Stamp your feet, dance away
Leave me alone with my shame.
My, how your Irish green eyes cast a net
As I played your Castilian game.
The depth and the breadth
Of the pain that you left,
Profound as your whispered name,
Fernandez.
Your heart is cold as a patio stone floor.
I give you my heart but you keep on asking for more.
What for?
I'd travel a thousand miles to have you by my side.
You said you'd do the same,
But, Darling, you lied.
So I gift you the tears of a fool.
Beloved, I, too, can be cruel.
Leave me alone with my shame.
My, how your Irish green eyes cast a net
As I played your Castilian game.
The depth and the breadth
Of the pain that you left,
Profound as your whispered name,
Fernandez.
Your heart is cold as a patio stone floor.
I give you my heart but you keep on asking for more.
What for?
I'd travel a thousand miles to have you by my side.
You said you'd do the same,
But, Darling, you lied.
So I gift you the tears of a fool.
Beloved, I, too, can be cruel.

That Music
Mama, if you only knew
The things that music's put me through
You'd take this grown girl in your arms
And rock her soul to sleep.
You'd take back all those lullabies
The ones you sang to dry my eyes
I guess you never knew those songs would one day make me weep.
Rhythms round my heart
Looking for the words that rhyme
I write it down and hope
I'll find it all in time
That gift, that curse you gave to me
Will one day see me dead
'Cause, Mama, I can't get that music
Out of my head.
The things that music's put me through
You'd take this grown girl in your arms
And rock her soul to sleep.
You'd take back all those lullabies
The ones you sang to dry my eyes
I guess you never knew those songs would one day make me weep.
Rhythms round my heart
Looking for the words that rhyme
I write it down and hope
I'll find it all in time
That gift, that curse you gave to me
Will one day see me dead
'Cause, Mama, I can't get that music
Out of my head.

Confidence
I couldn't lie to you
Even if you want me to
Hell, I find it hard these days
To just deceive myself.
I've been known to dream and scheme
For happiness, like when you'd bring me
Tiny presents that I keep
Like trophies, on a shelf.
And I could not stay here any longer
You sit there and nod your head
Tell me that I'm right.
I mistook your resilience
For another type of competence
I'd have a lot more confidence
If you'd put up a fight.
You were just pretending
And I was condescending
Guess neither one...
Even if you want me to
Hell, I find it hard these days
To just deceive myself.
I've been known to dream and scheme
For happiness, like when you'd bring me
Tiny presents that I keep
Like trophies, on a shelf.
And I could not stay here any longer
You sit there and nod your head
Tell me that I'm right.
I mistook your resilience
For another type of competence
I'd have a lot more confidence
If you'd put up a fight.
You were just pretending
And I was condescending
Guess neither one...

Undecided
You encourage me to dependence
Then deny me an existence
Of committment,
Some reminder that we've grown.
Your reluctance, it confuses
My patience- it abuses
Still I linger...
Make no choices of my own.
Then deny me an existence
Of committment,
Some reminder that we've grown.
Your reluctance, it confuses
My patience- it abuses
Still I linger...
Make no choices of my own.

Wounded
When I was young and stubbed my toe,
While waiting for new skin,
I'd stub it six more times before
The healing could begin.
A woman now, a deeper wound
I pray for thicker skin.
'Cause every time you step on me
I bite my tongue again.
While waiting for new skin,
I'd stub it six more times before
The healing could begin.
A woman now, a deeper wound
I pray for thicker skin.
'Cause every time you step on me
I bite my tongue again.

Necromancer
Fearless, as most youth can be,
I abased my dose of purity.
Spent all of my days trying to conquer the night
With reckless curiosity,
I courted Death with intensity
And shunned all chaperones, save pure Delight.
I did not heed the mourning dove
Or the consequence of requited love,
Convinced that I was somehow born invincible.
I committed the worst of crimes,
Social suicide so many times
That even my ghost has now become invisible.
I abased my dose of purity.
Spent all of my days trying to conquer the night
With reckless curiosity,
I courted Death with intensity
And shunned all chaperones, save pure Delight.
I did not heed the mourning dove
Or the consequence of requited love,
Convinced that I was somehow born invincible.
I committed the worst of crimes,
Social suicide so many times
That even my ghost has now become invisible.
