Shadows
The clouds flow
Like wisps of smoke
Difting, dark
In the moon's glow.
Black on black,
Invisible.
Sky and smoke,
Indivisible.
A light in the east
Turns black to blue
And I watch it go
As I'm missing you...
Won't
Your
Shadows
Fade?
Like wisps of smoke
Difting, dark
In the moon's glow.
Black on black,
Invisible.
Sky and smoke,
Indivisible.
A light in the east
Turns black to blue
And I watch it go
As I'm missing you...
Won't
Your
Shadows
Fade?

Night Flier
The night is black,
Or so I assume-
I do not see in light,
I see in sound.
My leather wings,
So unique to me
And my brothers,
Glide upon the air-
Not slicing it like a dragonfly,
Nor beating it like a sparrow-
Merely use it as a cushion,
Keeping me from the ground
So far below.
But not too far,
For my prey lurk near it-
The moths
And flies
And other dainty morsels.
I must eat well tonight,
For I have not done so
In many days.
The prey is leaving the woods
To lurk in darker,
Shinier,...
Or so I assume-
I do not see in light,

Keep Dancing
The rain pours outside.
Frightened faces watch
Through the windows.
The empty streets echo
The empty silence
Inside the glass
As families
Go silent
To watch the rain
Fall.
But perhaps the streets
Are not so empty,
For look-
There's a form in the shadows,
Blurred
By the falling rain.
She lifts her face
To the thunder,
The lightning
Flashing
In her eyes.
Slowly,
Her arms lift to the air
And she starts
To dance.
Around and around she turns,
The rain splashing
On...

The Kraken
Time marches on
Like a soldier's line-
One, two,
One, two.
But what of the soldiers
Left behind?
Plenty of soldiers
Fought and died.
But what of the ones
Who lived?
What of those
Who faced
The Kraken-
The war spirit
Humans so enjoy-
And lived to speak its name?
What of those
Who fought for me
And fought for you
But never heard
The victory cry?
It is the fact
The uniform
Tries to hide-
Once you taste
War,
Once the Kraken
Has tasted you, ...
Like a soldier's line-
One, two,

Why?
Why is it
That whenever I have
A moment of peace
In my new world
Of hard-bought
Freedom,
He's there-
My father
Who loved me
And destroyed me-
To take it
Away again?
That whenever I have
A moment of peace
In my new world
Of hard-bought
Freedom,
He's there-
My father
Who loved me
And destroyed me-
To take it
Away again?

My Name
My name is Youth.
I am young,
I am strong,
I am happy.
I am a child,
I am imaginative,
And I am content.
Yet I sense an unhappy world
Lurking just outside.
Please, oh please,
Won't you tell me my name?
My name is Transition.
I used to be strong,
But I'm not so sure now.
I used to be happy,
But now I feel something lurking,
Waiting to pull me from my past
And into the cruel future.
Please, oh please,
Won't you tell me my name?
My name is Anger.
Someone stole my strength!
I had it...

Consumed
Your eyes
Search the gloom
For mine-
But you find
Only
Blackness.
I have hidden
From the fire
Of the hatred
And fear
In the soul
You sought to
Hide from me.
Where could I run?
Where could I hide?
The fire was searching
For me
Calling
For me
Drawing me in
Simply by being
Close.
The heat in the hate
Consumed me.
Why could I see
What you were doing
To me?
Smoke
Hides
Flame.
And when
Time passed,
When the smoke
Had cleared...
...

Queen's High
Sitting pretty
And high
And alone
The Queen watches
From atop
That marble and
Barbed-wire throne.
How can she stand?
How can she smile?
How can she move
Beneath those pressures
On her shoulders?
This is her world,
This is her land
This is her prison
She chose herself.
Her highest high
Is her only feeling.
It's all she's allowed-
Any lower,
And the world
Will swallow her
And leave her forgotten
In time.
So there she'll sit,
And smile,
And rule-
Knowing she's alone...

Betrayer, or betrayed?
A hunch, a hunch,
Of lies.
A call, a call,
To find out the truth.
Who to trust?
Surely not you.
After all,
You've lied to me
Before.
But only because
You felt you had to.
I know you felt alone.
I know you feel that way
Now.
But I won't let you
Drag a loved one
Down with you.
If it was me,
I wouldn't question-
But I won't let you
Take him with you.
He is innocent,
A sweet soul,
Trying to help another
In need.
But are you in need?
Therein lies...
Of lies.
A call, a call,
To find out the truth.

Sometimes
Sometimes I wish I could save you.
Sometimes I sit
And wonder
At how the world
Makes us who we are.
Sometimes I listen
And wonder if
Any of what I hear
Is true.
Sometimes I remember
When you came to me
Desperate
And alone.
Sometimes I think
That I failed you.
Sometimes I sleep
And dream of a world
Where you can be saved.
Sometimes I scream
At the helplessness
I feel.
Sometimes I stare
And think that
The solution is so simple
If you'd only
Reach for it.

Today
You left me here
Long ago-
Over a year
Now.
You tore my heart out
And didn't even
Have a good reason why.
Or not that you could tell me.
But that's okay.
You never were good with words.
And you gave me
A gift
That made it all worth it-
You made me see that
I was worth
Love.
We tried to stay friends,
And it might have succeeded,
But for one thing:
You still loved me.
Words on a small shining screen-
A text begging me to come back.

Not That Man
There comes a time
When the world
Is at
Peace.
When a man
Clad in uniform
With a gun on his
Shoulder
Never has to fire it.
When a soldier
Is one of ornament
And status.
I am not that man.
I am the man
On the
Frontline,
Panting, sweat running
Into my eyes,
Shooting
And screaming
And afraid.
I am the medic,
The nurse sponging
A man's forehead,
Knowing that his
Eyes, glazed with pain,
Will soon close
Forever.
I am the general,
