POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I see, I hear, I experience, am inspired, start writing, sit back, and wonder when I stopped being in control of the words...
Life
I want to dance naked in the rain
(even though I was never good at dancing);
Shed clothes, worries, fears and just rotate
Arms to the sky, eyes shut
Feeling the ground under my feet
Feeling the life soaking into every pore
I want to dance naked in the rain
And not have to worry about broken bottles
Making my feet cry rubies that blend with
Crystalline Valkyries tears
That soothe the burning wounds that
Never made it to the surface
I want to dance naked in the rain
Forget everything as Vitality washes over me
Soaking me with so...
(even though I was never good at dancing);
Shed clothes, worries, fears and just rotate
Arms to the sky, eyes shut
Feeling the ground under my feet
Feeling the life soaking into every pore

Ticking
I can hear a clock ticking somewhere in the house.
The darkness hides behind my eyelids
Blotting out your shape every time
I open my eyes to search for you.
I need to stop that clock from ticking.
It crowds at the edges of my senses
Telling me your warmth isn’t there
When I reach out to touch you.
I don’t know why it only ticks at night.
There’s a clock ticking, somewhere in the house.
It only ticks at night, keeping pace with my breaths
As I wish for your warmth to materialise next to me.
I need to find the clock, so...

Bloody Valentine
A single drop rolls,
Following the contours and curves:
Shoulder, collarbone, breast.
Your lips meet it halfway,
Trailing crimson roses
Up to find my own.

Sleepless
It’s been said far too many times
The teddy isn’t comforting enough
The blankets are cold
The bed too large
(it’s downsized and yet there’s still too much space)
I say everything too much because
I’m afraid
You’ll forget them if I pause
Long enough to breathe
I’m tossing and turning
Restless in the grip of
Nightmares that mock me with your face
And your name on my lips as I’m released from
Hel
And all her promises of half-dead romance
I say things too much because
I’m scared
I’ll forget how to express...

Snapshots
I will wake when you do
(usually when I feel your kisses travelling across my shoulder and up my neck)
even though I'll make sure you're
beautifully asleep before letting it take me.
I will go where you do
(because I can't just stay behind when you get up to leave)
even though it surely gets expensive
the car doesn't mind running to empty for you.
I will take the batteries out of the clock
(because I always dreamt about having superpowers, and if only it was that simple)
even though it doesn't stop everything
you're worth losing the...

She and He, You and Me
Her eyes had the texture of petrol, making all aware that
she could explode into icy fury in an instant. None were brave enough to try
and douse her flame, so she was left to simmer away, scarring all who touched
her.
He wears the shadows as if they were his clothes, keeping to
the background of life itself. Occasionally he flits into sight and then
vanishes, like the dragonfly that grasps your attention before moving away too
fast for your eyes to follow.
The shadows had confused her, so she had brushed them aside
with a warrior’s touch and found...

Words
I swirled the words around in my head, getting used to the weight of them. I rolled them over my tongue, feeling them crowd at the tip and roll back to choke me. I whispered them into the silence of an empty room, fearing the bittersweet taste.
They sounded hollow and false, in that empty room, making a mockery of the tenderness I feel in them.
They sounded perfect on your lips, pouring out in a silence only I could hear. They’re in every breath that trickles down my neck as you breathe happiness, in every hair you brush away from my face. I hear them every time you kiss...

I am
Hello there
Do you recognise me now that your eyes are clear of the
tears that misted them? Do you know who you’re smiling at now that your mouth
is no longer twisted in bitterness? Do you remember my voice now that you can
hear more than hatred and rejection? Do you remember me?
I thought not.
I am the person who hugged you tight and told you that
everything would be alright. We both knew it wouldn’t be, but you nodded and
smiled and felt better, hearing me lie to you.
I am the person that sat you down on the bed and held you as
you...

Treacherous Conditions
The wind strokes its icy fingers through my hair,
Pulling and tangling in its enthusiasm
At having found a playmate that allows its affections.
The snow feathers kisses on my cheeks, my eyelashes
Complimenting my pale skin with its own icy complexion
Trying to draw the rose in my blood to my cheeks.
The deepest black in the heart of the ice returns
The glare I direct at it, uncaring for my disdain
Or the hatred the other elements feel towards it.
The blue in my lips cannot be matched by any
Save the paint on the car that fell prey to the...

Kneel
Come play a game with me, let’s make it fun
Just you and I, one on one.
A simple strip of leather dangles between us;
One of us will end the night kneeling.
Just you and I, one on one.
A simple strip of leather dangles between us;
One of us will end the night kneeling.

Dear 16 year-old me
Dear 16 year-old me
It's a new experience, being beautiful; I know you don't want to let it go to your head, but don't just ignore the comments; they genuinely think you're stunning. You won't have gotten used to it four years down the line (I'm still brought up short whenever someone says in passing 'you're beautiful'), so don't worry about becoming one of 'those' girls.
With beauty comes desire, and yes, you will also be desired. Now listen very carefully, because this is important: think before you act. I know he's nice, and attractive, and you really want that kiss, but...

Dear Best Friend
Dear Simon
Where to start? I miss you, of course, but you already knew that. You tell me you miss me too, and then you get terribly uncomfortable with that rare display of affection. It makes me smile every time.
I suppose right now, I just want to say thank you. Thank you so much for being the best friend anybody could ask for. You listened when everyone else talked over me, past me, beyond me. You saw me when everyone else looked through me. You’ve always been there for me, even when I made some really bad decisions and neglected you as a result of those decisions. Most...
