Sister
For so many years
I had your back, never really noticing
...you secretly had mine
You would always follow me,
try on my clothes, take my things
without asking
Would want what I had
...Today I proudly love all you have
I would pretend you were my daughter,
taking you places, mom didn't have time to
guided you through school,
made time for girl talk,
dressed you and fixed your hair
so that you would look immaculate
wherever you went
...You are still this way today
Sacrifices I made...
I had your back, never really noticing
...you secretly had mine
You would always follow me,

Shoes remind me
Shoes can transform who you are at the moment
My Nike sneakers
remind me to work out
or attend a school conference
or football practice and games
Black heels
remind me of my black trench coat and nothing else.
Leaning against cool granite
while my love devours my soul
Tall, grey, high heeled boots
remind me of sexy nights
at a music lounge or Broadway show
exchanging naughty glances and sweet kisses
Blue, green and black decorated heels
remind me of a night out in Vegas where
upon our return to the hotel room,...

Courage
I prayed you wouldn't go
with anyone else but me that weekend,
I know you went anyway
Certain your comrade
was a surrogate
during our reserved weekend,
I could no longer look at what used to be
When you returned from that weekend,
I heard you describe
the exquisite skin you had for your pleasure.
Those were the last words I drank.
Each word burned my throat
and pierced my heart
I no longer wanted to witness
the lyrics you composed for the back-up
Refusing to be drunk
in love anymore,
I made all necessary...
with anyone else but me that weekend,
I know you went anyway
