POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am. What else it there to say? My likes, dislikes, loves and wishes, mean nothing if I do not acknowledge that I simply am. That I breathe and experience. There is no greater explanation.
Desert Girl
Desert wind
Picks up her hair,
Desert sand
Erodes her cares.
Desert sky
So open and clear,
Desert Mountains
Stand against her fears.
Desert heat
Caresses her skin,
Desert tales
Persuades a grin.
Desert way
Leaves all revealed,
Desert symphony
Leaves wounds healed.
Desert place
With dusting swirls,
Desert contentment
For the desert girl.
Picks up her hair,
Desert sand
Erodes her cares.
Desert sky
So open and clear,
Desert Mountains
Stand against her fears.
Desert heat
Caresses her skin,
Desert tales
Persuades a grin.
Desert way
Leaves all revealed,
Desert symphony
Leaves wounds healed.
Desert place
With dusting swirls,
Desert contentment
For the desert girl.

Can’t Know the Pieces
Roaring takes over
Washes the brain
Pushes and insists
There’s much to refrain
So I look in deep
Seeing not
Knowing that love is
Something I’ve forgot
So how do I tell you,
‘Beautiful’ makes me quake
And every kiss given
Feels like a mistake?
How do I explain,
What’s broken isn’t fixed,
That an explosion will occur
When all the pieces are mixed
I’ve been called dark and twisty
And I know that I am flawed
But no amount of tender words
Will have all those walls thawed
You...

Did You Mean It…
Did you hear me say it,
The words?
“I love you,
I need you,
I don’t want to live
Without you.”
Did you see my outstretched arms
Open wide to you?
Inviting you,
Begging you,
To simply let me
Hold you…
Did you feel my touch,
On your face with my fingertips?
Memorizing you,
Adoring you,
Wondering how I could
Ever deserve you.
Did you see it there,
The pain in my eyes?
As you grew distant,
As silence thickened,
And I pondered,
My mistake.
Did you hear it,
My cry?
As you...
The words?
“I love you,
I need you,
I don’t want to live

This Morning's Blue
This morning I’m going to remember color,
Find my way from blue to green
And then maybe go back again
Because the sky –
That blue
Is the most skilled artist I have ever seen
I’m going to dust myself with
The flavors of rain
I’ll stand there and pause my breath
So that I can pick out each part
The salt, the pepper, the spice.
I’ll write a book on it, recipes of love and pain
If I were a gardener today
I would instruct you to cast you’re seeds in the dirt filled with rock
I would show you that each stone that...

Love Is Like Radioactivity...
Love is like radioactivity
Spaced between ribs
Targeting all that should move properly
Hands move to change, to draw up
And as they go, I’ll learn to date…
I’ll paste the layers of the earth
To the bottom of my feet –
Gaining permanence in practice
Storing history in fossils that make up my steps
The ages of love will follow me,
Just as the stars move with the earth.
Seasons will watch as I struggle
And fear will ask that I cease
Yet, when I open my eyes
Am greeted by the blooming heavens
I am aware that to...

Belle Beat
Soft chill
Numbing will
Lay all curled
Hidden beyond the world
Tired in the soul
Fractured as a whole
Drifting in the breeze
Arms around the knees
Caress away the cares
With star riddled stares
Frosted touch
Reveals so much
Never awake
The dreams all forsake
Swim in the red
The once comfortable bed
Look into deadening eyes
The glaze holds no lies
Alabaster crawls
As shadows taint the walls
Faded light in death
A struggling breath
Enchants a quiet room
It’ll be empty soon

Out Of It All
Out of all the lies you’ve fed me,
‘I love you’ was my favorite
Out of all your falsities
Those kisses were the best
Out of all the promises you made me
None shattered quite like that ring
Out of all the whispered fairytales
That deep down, I knew you’d spun…
Out of all the smiles, I now knew mocked me,
This one you must have had the most fun…
Yes indeed,
Out of all the lies you fed me,
Out of all the promises you broke,
‘I love you’
‘Be my wife?’
Was the cruelest of those jokes.

Behind Onyx Skies
Wager against the tidal rifts
Subject the mind to lent behavior
Collect all titles, quipping grins
That awakes the waiting savior
Slept all through the sinking day
But demanded supplemented rhyme,
Worried clock’s twisting arms
That embraced slow slipping time.
Mounted chaos slithers by
With wilted hands cupping hearts,
Feet tangling along rubble grounds
That sews together what’s been apart.
Lumbering thoughts
Escape mind’s device
And although the hands reach out to snatch
These thoughts find outside quite suffice....

Where To?
Couldn’t sleep tonight
So wept instead,
Hoping to drown
The memories in my head
Four in the morning
Sleep still won’t come,
Laying with aching eyes
And a chest that’s hollow and numb
Pull open the cover
White and ink on a page
Accepting of words,
Tapping out all of my rage
Six in the morning
Tired and spent
Writing for hours
Yet the memories refuse to relent
Six thirty and violent
I just want some peace,
A refuge of sorts
That doesn’t require a lease
Seven and bankrupt
Emotion all...

Once Upon a Moonlit Night…
Amongst a forest of stars,
A symphony shattered
Broken into many shards
And across that darkened sky, scattered.
The moon twisted and spun,
Seeking conformation,
That its fragmented colors were cast
Along waving hesitation.
Its fragmented symphony
Lay jagged over swelling tides,
Trapped on this endless sea
Where they wait where freedom hides.
The surface which they blanket
Pitches, rolls, and sways,
By night visibly broken
But shadowed in the deep by day
And on this night,
Beneath this moonlit sky...
A symphony shattered
Broken into many shards
And across that darkened sky, scattered.
The moon twisted and spun,
Seeking conformation,
That its fragmented colors were cast
Along waving hesitation.

Fashion the Ready
Cold style welcomed the beautiful
The same enemy had endangered the winners
Chance knew, first had never been proven.
Your start had become a control block,
My attention, your factored relief.

The Lying Road
Feet running, flying
Heart bleeding, dying
Eyes flooded, crying
This road ahead is lying.
I keep moving, trying
Head held up, vying
Time to time, victory spying
But this road ahead keeps lying.
I’m running as fast as I can,
I’m reaching but you won’t grasp my hand,
I know you can hear my screaming demand,
Why do you not understand?
I’m falling,
I’m calling,
I’m racing,
Left stalling
I’m moving in place
Caught in this space
Left last in the race
Tell me it won’t last forever,
Tell me it...
Heart bleeding, dying
Eyes flooded, crying
This road ahead is lying.
I keep moving, trying
Head held up, vying
Time to time, victory spying
But this road ahead keeps lying.
