POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am. What else it there to say? My likes, dislikes, loves and wishes, mean nothing if I do not acknowledge that I simply am. That I breathe and experience. There is no greater explanation.
statue of the Iron Owl
Stare at me, upon your Iron throne,
Through wisdom’s eyes, what horrors have you known,
Of fire blazed to create your form,
Do you long for the figure after which you were born?
Can you tell me, stiffened owl, the thoughts of your maker?
The sky must ache for you to take her,
Do you hate your unfilled desire –
To be real, yet bound by fire?
What, soundless bird of night,
Lies hidden within frozen sight?
You stand there forever to confess,
Always showing, always sharing, never rest
What adventures holds the window you keep,...

Decide
Decide,
Who is wrong,
What is right
Decide,
Will you flee
Or will you fight
Trust your heart,
Trust the night
For wings can only be unfurled
While falling from great heights
Who is wrong,
What is right
Decide,
Will you flee
Or will you fight
Trust your heart,
Trust the night
For wings can only be unfurled
While falling from great heights

Empty Message
Give me a message in a bottle,
One that’s blunt, in truest form,
Not some flavored tune that coddles;
But a message of the coming storm
No more entertainment,
No more blood, and sex, and killing,
Freedom lies within containment,
Of a mind that’s pure and willing
We have feasted upon this violence -
Murder on the picture screen,
Spit-filled laughter in defiance,
With repercussions yet unseen
So tell me, where’s our message now,
The morals that used to feed our soul?
They have become a tainted vow,
Plunging ahead for...

Crimson Lady Bring Me Winter Gray
Crimson Lady, look at me,
Beneath your flickering tapestry,
Can you paint me a cloudy sky,
By which the summer flowers die?
I know with warmth, you fill this earth,
A gift of brilliance of untold worth,
But can you not sink away,
To let come forth the winter’s day?
Crimson Lady, your beauty bright,
Only illuminates my lack of light,
Overcast by a shattered soul,
Your warmth mocks what once was whole.
My hollowness, in your glow revealed,
But in winter’s chill, lies concealed,
I can’t help but feel lonely in your embrace,...

Story of the Stars
I was caught on a sleepless night,
With nightmares on the fold,
And so went out to the gardens,
Where the stars, a story told.
They took pity on my fright,
And so began to tell their story,
A fanciful artwork,
Of pain and fear and glory.
“Why would I wish to hear of pain,
When my horrors are still new?”
They simply laughed and said:
“Worry naught, there is love here too.”
Their voices blurred together,
Upon this starlit lullaby,
They told of all their seeing,
From way up in the sky.

The Sojourner Left Behind a Song
He did not know what he sought for,
He did not understand where he was going,
He did not hear the telling tune,
Or see the path that sorrow was showing.
Until one day he came upon a broken girl,
Whose life was bruised and torn;
And yet this stricken soul was singing,
With her heart against a thorn.
He could do nothing but stop and listen,
As her voice with sorrow unfurled,
But she sang of only light and hope,
To a grieving, weeping world.
She sang of this long journey,
Of all its joys and its pains,

Dear Past...
Dear Past,
It’s me, it’s you, writing a letter to warn,
Keep up your armor as you have sworn.
I know it’s been a while since that day
That your father got up and just walked away.
But worry not you'll be strong,
No, this is about the boy that will soon come along.
Run away as fast as you can.
Never I beg you, never love this man.
You are tough and your walls are high,
But he will vault over them with such earnest lies.
Your fear of the unknown will be split apart,
But no good will come, instead a shattered heart.

Murdered Ship
-Inspired by the nursery rhyme "Sailing Ship"-
I saw a ship a-sailing,
A-sailing on the sea;
And it was full of horrid things,
Headed straight for me!
There were nightmares in the cabin,
And murder in the hold;
The sails were painted bloody velvet,
And the masts were evil souls.
The four-and-twenty sailors,
That haunted all the decks,
Were four-and-twenty zombies,
With twisted, broken necks.
The Captain held a cleaver,
Dripping with the blood he lacks,
And when the boat began to move
He had all...

Mind Your Cues
Chin up, chin up,
There you go,
Don't let them fall,
Don't let them know.
Stand up straight,
Smile now,
Make them believe,
Give them a bow.
Hide all those secrets
Deep in your heart,
Give them a show,
Play your part.
Left, right, left, right,
That's it, keep going,
They don't suspect,
Keep them from knowing
Talk polite,
Look in their eyes,
Don't be rude,
Don't look beyond the disguise
Your almost there,
Don't make a mistake,
Keep them all laughing,
Don't show them your smile is...

Societal Beauty
Be pretty, be perfect, be thin,
Give them a smile and you'll surely win.
Heighten what's short, cover up those eyes,
And they'll never guess it’s just a disguise.
Spend every hour that you possess,
Before the screen that prescribes your dress,
It's our new mirror, society's voice,
The one that denies beauty's a choice.
Study your role, rehearse all your lines,
And raise up the fake upon your shrines,
Beauty over wisdom, to fit their style,
And let vanity grow, bloom, and defile
Give them a smile and you'll surely win.
Heighten what's short, cover up those eyes,
And they'll never guess it’s just a disguise.
Spend every hour that you possess,
Before the screen that prescribes your dress,
