POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have been writing poetry for about 15 years. Most of my poems express my inner feelings and emotions, and are an intimate baring of my soul, although I write some of a more humourous nature.
Bedtime games or My lover's delight
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
My lover's ways are always so much fun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
Our clothes we shed, and when we are in bed;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
I touch her breasts and kiss them one by one;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
And suck her nipples 'til they're hard and red.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
And stroke her back, until the time is right,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
To squeeze her bum, her softly rounded cheeks; ...

The mystery of love
What is the mystery called joy?
A question I've often pondered,
During the long hours of the night.
In my melancholy, too oft
Joy seems to be beyond my reach,
A mirage that fades into dust
Just as I think I can grasp it.
So life becomes a denial
Of all that I so vainly seek,
Leaving me alone in the dark,
Clutching at straws, and each false dawn
Bringing me nought but bitter tears.
What is the mystery called love?
In my darkest hours, I wonder
If it is anything more real ...

Love's pain and joy
Am I to be the last to know?
Was I so blind I could not see?
My dearest love why must this be?
It hurts so much to set you free
Why do you have to treat me so?
Oh, do I have to let you go?
Last time we met it was such joy,
We played and laughed as lovers do.
It felt as if my heart was new,
My love for you, it grew and grew.
It was so nice to be your toy,
As if I were a laughing boy.
But when I call you are not there.
My mails remain unanswered.
My love for you was so absurd,
I tried to cage you like a bird. ...

Touched by grace
By what strange quirk of fate, I joyful ask;
That happiness so sweet from out the blue
Should come and bless the twilight of my years.
Every moment that in her love I bask
Holds such delights, my life she does renew.
Amazed am I that she should take my fears
And soothe them all away. The mask of pain
Lies broken at my feet, and in its place
Bliss so lambent, that harmony shall reign,
In place of grief. To look upon her face
Eases my spirit, so never again
Can black despair, whose cold and drear embrace
Laid me low, rule my heart. And...

Love's fragrance
The briefest memory of your fragrance
Fills my mind with such a tender longing,
Bewitching my senses, foretaste of bliss.
Sweeter by far than the scent of roses,
More intoxicating than wild jasmine,
The merest hint can bring you close once more,
As if you were enfolded in my arms,
A sweet reminder of nights of passion
When we were transported to heights of joy.
And now fairest of lilies, you are here,
Our naked bodies beginning that dance
That leads to ecstasy, my ardent manhood
Deep within your soft and welcoming flesh.

The light of my love
My life's sole purpose and my single aim,
In ceaseless wandering the wide world o'er,
Far greater in import than worldly fame,
Great riches, or e'en philosopher's lore,
Has been a tireless and resolute quest,
For my lost love, the one beyond compare;
Of greater worth by far than all the best
Men's hands have made; a love so sweet and fair
That I would gladly go ten thousand miles
Just to sit at her feet, bathed in the light
And warmth of her divinity. Her smiles
Are more lovely and more intensely bright
Than anything cold nature could...

Be my Valentine
Oh lady fair, so haughty, and so coldly proud,
Entreat though I may, naught it seems, can ever pierce
The adamantine shell that guards your cruel soul,
And even my most honeyed words are all in vain.
However hard I strive to rise above the crowd
Of those that press about your feet, whose cries so fierce
Each clamour to be heard; and were I to enrol
The gods above, my suit would surely end in pain.
Alas I fear, my cause is doomed right from the start,
And other men with louder voice, and better claim,
Are better placed to woo you by their...

The light of love
At last the light of this bright truth has shone
On my dull and uncomprehending mind,
That for my sake you have all else forgone,
For without thought and ne'er a glance behind
You gave your heart, and doing heaped upon
My head such shame that I could be so blind.
For sake of me you have your life redrawn,
All other loves for me to dust consigned,
And claimed this, not as loss, but bright new morn,
A ray of hope into your dead heart shined,
New birth, when thoughts of joy had seemed forlorn,
Not path from out cold misery to find. ...

Late coming love
Oh my love, I have lived a long and full life,
Knowing in equal measure both joy and pain.
There have been triumphs, and some disasters too,
But fate has been kind, granting many blessings,
And in the scales of fortune, more good than bad.
Entering now on the twilight of my years,
I spend my time reflecting on life's journey,
And my thoughts turn at length on old memories,
Their rich panoply playing across my mind,
Tender thoughts of old loves, and generous friends.
I have traveled to many far flung places,

A cry in the dark
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, they say,
But what do they know of the way I feel,
With no word from her as night follows day,
No sign to show that she hears my appeal,
Just a cold silence that cuts like a knife.
She vowed that her love could not be numbered,
That we would be one to the end of life,
Her love so strong it could not be sundered.
She said it would be only a little while,
Before she returned to be by my side,
A promise sealed with kisses and a smile,
Finally to be my eternal bride.
But she is gone, and all is hopelessness,...

Like a child in the rain
A dull ache, like some half-remembered pain
Is all that remains of what we once were
Together; but that is in the past now,
And I am left like a child in the rain,
Cold and alone, peering through misted glass,
Eager to glimpse the light and life within,
Craving the warmth of love, but all in vain.
Forgotten now is the laugh in your voice,
The touch of your hand, the sight of your face,
And shadowy thoughts are all that remain
Of our brief, sweet, autumnal love affair.
In time I hope that you might recall
Some memory of...
