Grandma's Dirty Apron
we wear cowboy hats down there
blue jeans and eat a man's breakfast
meat & potatoes
and Grandma's Dirty Apron
filled with her cheerfulness
canning, pruning, farming
babysitting, volunteering
an all American grandma
"Her home is in Heaven"
if that's how you believe
never missed a day of work
on the farm
milking the cows
feeding the pigs
pumpkins, squash, tomatoes
wheat, barley, black tea
and licorice
she was a grand lady
her potatoes and cheese
was a delightful dish
growing up with her ...

Help the Poor
How can it happen?
going to the breadlines
the food pantry
lost income, lost job
health problems
eviction
arthritis / disease
sleeping in the car
a motel for a couple days
homeless living in the car
while working
makes no sense
and there was no help
agencies controlling such
little charity
help the poor
feed the hungry
help the sick
give some gas money to
someone that needs it
pay for a motel room
if someone needs it
buy a car for someone to
get to work
it can happen to YOU...

Pit Bull Hot Dog Cart
The dogs were back in town
Red, Jo Jo, Freedom, Brutus
and they wore checkerboard aprons
serving Hot Dogs, on the steamy cart
imagine the neighborhood strays
and the Pit Bull ways
but serving hot dogs on the grill
must have been
such a thrill
serving the heated meat
with concessions
and such a confession
the cats & dogs came from
miles around
nobody made a barking sound
serve em' up right
and nobody gets in a fight
hungry jaws
& mustard on paws

Pit Bull Moon A.D. 3400
the Pit Bulls made their way to planet Zirconium--
back .packs of liquid propane and circuit disaster
red flag, red. flag -- leakage upon the aqua ducts
the honey moon was distressed
the dogs barked in sweet carress
soup bones of chicken white meat
.seeking the .Valley of Dog Bones
the Pit Bulls attempted to .search the ugly future
rocket packs and Pit Bulls
average grace, up in space
carrying aqua duct tape
plugging .up holes in space
the only adventure, melancholy
but the dogs got their day
America won its way

Living in the Car (true story)
evicted due to back rent
hurt my back
nobody cared
then bad news
other family member
ruined their back
at a factory job
no compensation
no witness
no insurance
American yet we pay taxes
no help
to all the welfare agencies
"You make $10 dollars an hour"
"You are a big shot"
"You need no help"
as we go to food pantries
they try and make us rif-raf
but we are college educated
and not take the abuse
from lower life forms
and we sit in the tin can
like a space ship
crying even ...

Apple Country Dirt Road
the apples fall
on green grass
hornets buzz profusely
the scarecrow grins
before autumn's ritual
count the red apples
1, 2, 3, now twenty
on the ground
hornets make a buzzing
sound

baby I'm a country guy
I like blue skies
and I am from

baby I have never done crack
I soothe an alligator's back
with whipped cream
and a childhood dream
teaching Pit Bulls
to yawn, sit and lean

but I got a handful
of Nashville jelly beans
I have been rich and poor
but never been through

squirrel nut fun day
Mother Nature's way
sunny skies
shop till you drop
kids lick lollipops
but the squirrels

Lord, I hear voices on the river
my soul to quiver
coming from the hills
the Holy Mountain
precious stones
& crystal fountains
you make the world
go round
spices, herbs &
angel sounds
rise again

and farmers with
strong arms
canning, plowing
seeding, planting
growing, sowing
O' Lord tornado coming
Kansas blue sky
a Devil's dark eye
down into the cellar
this twister a
nasty fellar
water brook
overflowed and shook
automobiles towed
cattle winds
sheep breath
cat paws
strong jaws
cows with
big rear ends
mahogany spots
