This poem was inspired by one of Plato's ideas of love and longing . . .

When I rolled from the nest
my being was split
my countenance was blessed
from a shell: maroon
I came cracked by the lord's almighty spoon

my toiled early days
bear great a weight
blighting my wings
impairing my flight
but when the winds change strong my feet hold tight

I watch my family and fellows fly
from an apt perch
them blossoming in the crimson sky
reaching peak, reaching noon
while I sit whistling a tune
