Echo
Recently voices started calling out to me
Echoes from the past that were fighting for equality
They ask “Will there ever be unity,
Or will there always be hatred toward the colored community?”
I wish that there was an answer that I could give
There’s so much going on in the time that we currently live
The hearts of many with so much angst and unrest
And there are those who don't get why we fill the need to protest
It started with slavery, that ended, but then came Jim Crow
Separate but equal is what was said but it seems it was all for show ...

Main Characters:
Husband- Shawn Caleb Johnson
Wife- Sarya Raquel Anderson
[Setting: church, wedding ceremony, theme white and powder blue, crowd of people, newlyweds at the alter, groom is singing to his wife with choirs assistance]
Husband: (singing) "Do you love me?!"
Choir: (singing soflty) "do you love me?"
H: (Singing) "Baby now, that I, love you!!"..... You see Sarya, the song is a little misleading at that point. I've always loved you, I just wasn't man enough to realize it. But...

The Deal
Let me ask you a question.
Is there even a slightest opportunity
That you and I can form a unity?
First let me tell you what I can see.
A duo endowed with strength, faith, and loyalty.
Sounds like the perfect recipe
I can't even lie, I enjoy the moments when you're next to me
And early mornings when you're texting me
Our deep conversations make life a bit more easy
But if you just want to be friends I'll respect that.
.........might take a little time to fall back
But always remember that I got your back.
Cause I care for you and I wanna be sure...

I've Been Around (Edit)
Pain
Hurt
Sadness
And loneliness
Ball all of that right up
Toss it away to the Bible-less
You see I’ve lived all of my life
With all of my might
Trying to get my mind right, right?
But after over 20 years I’ve seen more dreams lose their life
Than I would see dead bodies if karma carried a knife
They say what goes up must come down
I don’t get high but I’m off the ground
I’m not alone but no friends are around
Cause you see my so called “father” didn’t care for me
So does that mean that the world wants me to live...
Hurt
Sadness
And loneliness
Ball all of that right up
Toss it away to the Bible-less
You see I’ve lived all of my life
With all of my might
Trying to get my mind right, right?

The Rain (2014)
Forever was the word we used
Who would have ever thought that forever was such a short time?
As I look back to the corners of my mind I’m trying to decide if I was in love
Or if in fact was that love blind
I remember when we would watch Bill Cosby
And say that’s how we are going to be
We no one would have ever thought
That there would be an end to our unity
We could have had something special
It was almost perfect besides the things we couldn’t let go
You did your wrong
And I did mine too
Now our hearts live in so much pain
We are human so...

Strip
Beauty on its own is just the beginning to a masterpiece
Skin deep lays the essence according to popular belief
Real eyes see the heart, the soul and all that is beneath
You hide behind a fake smile
When all awhile
Your current situation reveals an inner frown
You want to find a love that will never end
But your last took the last of your love with them
So now you question if you even have the ability to love again
You hide your pain behind ideals of those around you
Never realizing that you are no longer the real you
Just a product of the hardships...

Out of Place
How many times do I have to tell you that I love you?
It doesn't seem to change a thing
Things just aren't the same
There was a time when I wanted to hold you
And treat you like the queen to stand on side of me
The girl who'd go to war with me
All these feelings I've held back
And now I think its time
To say what's on my mind
It's really been to long
Since last I've seen your face
And things feel out of place
But thats just it
I can recall the 1st time I layed eyes on you
Your cheerful smile and pretty eyes would drive any man wild....
It doesn't seem to change a thing
Things just aren't the same
There was a time when I wanted to hold you

I Got You (Regardless)
I’ve come to realize that anything worth getting takes time
So as I review my words and write my rhymes
I won’t even try to act like I’m not feeling you
And it feels like I’ve been down this road before
But I think you can rewrite my past feelings with time
And now it’s like I can’t find the words to describe
All of the things I like about you
But with that same time
I can write down what we have in common
Very fed up with all of our past errors
Not seeing a clear reflection when we’re walking past mirrors
Been bitten by the lies of past...
So as I review my words and write my rhymes

B.A.M.
Visualize everything you wanted and dreamed
Summed up and placed into one human being
Testing the depth of my vocabulary to the limit
Because there isn’t a statement I can think of that can describe an image so vivid
I could say
You are like a candle's flickering flame, radiating a soft warm light into everyone you meet,
You bring hope to my life each time our paths cross
There’s a glow about you that I just can’t describe
And feelings within that I can’t hide
Amazing…..
Wonderful…..
Astonishing…..
Awe-inspiring…..
Great words all around...
Summed up and placed into one human being

Epiphany
Standing outside is a broken man, that’s me, who doesn’t want to go home
Rather stand here frozen up, hanging out in the cold
Zero below, trying to find his soul
Or even just his purpose
But no one cares what I think so me saying it is worthless
I live in a world where dreams are often shot down
Even before they are thought of or even have a chance to leave the ground
People living their lives based on the opinion of others
So quick to judge, but in God’s eyes we’re all sisters and brothers
We need to be going around helping each other
But it seems to...
