Henge
I drive past every week
Those standing stones, grey and bleak.
A calendar to mark the year,
Alleviated primal fear.
The sun would come, the sun would go.
Summer heat to winter snow.
Stones still stand, built to last.
They don't see the year pass.
In our time of atomic clocks
We forget the equinox,
Solstices and cross quarters
Our lives seem much shorter.
Time flies by increasingly fast.
Live for today, forget the past.
Standing stones reminding us
That life wasn't always thus.

How was your holiday? "Amazing".
How was your birthday? "Amazing".
How are you feeling today? "Amazing".
Is Amazing the least descriptive word?
Your Amazing is different to my Amazing
And I know many things are subjective
But at least, hot, exciting or good thanks
Mean more than Amazing.
Maybe Amazing means;
Please do fuck off; or
You wouldn't understand; or
I can't be bothered to explain.
Maybe Amazing means
It's time for me to work
On my questioning skills
And take more interest in others.

And now news from Brazil
Where Corona virus is having
An unusual effect on the
Prospects for the Amazon rainforest.
Forest wardens are unable to
Stop the intense logging
Due to being furloughed and
The forest is in immanent danger.
The Amazon rainforest has been
In danger since I was a child
And maybe before.
It's a story that has been going
For fifty years or more
And you would have thought
That if anyone gave a shit
It'd be sorted out by now.
I'm sure the problems are complex
And...

Around and around and around we go
Where we'll stop nobody knows
Encircling, and dividing and ruling
Infinitely spiralling.
Ever decreasing circles
Never getting to the point.
Curves, coil and bend.
Blend and discriminate.
Never ending or beginning
Always being.
Circadian. Daily. Lunar. Solar. Yuga, Universal rhythm repeating.
The Big Wheel keeps on keeping on.
Turning. Returning.
Up, down and around.
Cycling. Recycling.
Evolving. Revolving.
Moving and motionless.
Where we'll stop nobody knows
