Poet Introduction
Too much angst for a 25 year old
He's not Coming is He
18:30
I'm nine years old and its my first ever performamce. I've been practicing for months, running the lyrics over and over till the words feel like part of me. He promised he's coming. I know he is. He left us less than a month ago, but I'm still his. Hani blom. He's going to be so proud of me.
18:45
There's still plenty of time left, I only go on at seven. The show just started but I'm sure he's just running late. I know he's busy, its nothing new. Maybe he's working.
18:55
I didn't see him come in. Maybe he's in the back. I can't wait to hear what...

Midnight Serenade
Written for the impromptu composotions comp
Late at night I lay awake
I toss and turn,
I shiver and shake.
You kiss my lips and take my hand
And start to sooth my restless mind.
Like the ocean when it hits the sand.
You hum your soothing serenade,
The song you wrote when we first met.
Before I know it I'm fast asleep,
Dreaming in the world I made.
Late at night I lay awake
I toss and turn,
I shiver and shake.
You kiss my lips and take my hand
And start to sooth my restless mind.
Like the ocean when it hits the sand.
You hum your soothing serenade,
The song you wrote when we first met.
Before I know it I'm fast asleep,
Dreaming in the world I made.

Curiosity
I want to know myself
I want to know my body
I wamt to discover every plane and crevice and feeling,
Does this make me a slut?
I want to know what I like.
What makes me tick?
What sends me into spasms of pleasure?
What makes the feeling wash over me like waves in the ocean?
Would I like this?
Maybe I'll enjoy that.
I'll never know if I never try.

Does this make me a slut?
I want to know what I like.
What makes me tick?

What makes the feeling wash over me like waves in the ocean?
Would I like this?
Maybe I'll enjoy that.
I'll never know if I never try.

Bosbok Strand
Winter months spent at the sea
Every day a treasure hunt
Catching prawns next to the lagoon
Picking up oysters fresh from the beach.
Periwinkels in the shallow pools
And of course mussels when the tide comes in.
Back to camp we head
Anticipating our epic feast.
A potato bass is sliced and cleaned and fried in a garlicky butter mix.
Grill some snoek over an open fire caramalised in the best home made apricot jam
Next we make a mussel pot with cheesy white sauce to add
Soon we fry the winkels, snails and other goodies with some...

Christine
Your life was never easy.
It started with a daddy who gave you a secret to hold
One that would never be told.
Then you married a man.
Just to get out,
To escape that life,
You married a scam.
He tricked you, jackal
He left you alone
With your three little boys
He left you alone.
Three children came from your bond
Roelie, Jan and Hans
All wonderful sons
Until the day that three became two
A bicycle
A truck
A pair of new shoes.
I wonder if you can speak to Jan now? ...

Infedelity
inspired by a poem I already submitted. Thank you http://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poets/D_M0ndE99/ for suggesting that I turn it into a short story
A compliment here
I introduced them today. It went even better than I could have imagined. They love each other. I'm so glad that the people I hold nearest to my heart get along. He's my best friend, and she's my girlfriend, choosing between them would have been awful. This opens up so many possibilities.
A smile there
They really are getting along swimmingly. She's even starting to hang out with him on her...

sieze the day
written for the pic up line comp
Darling, we've only just met,
And I know that this is forward
But you've caught me like a fish in a net.
I would catch all the stars in the skies
To, just for one moment,
Give you that smile that lights up your eyes.
I would drag a car
By my teeth
In the rain and sleet
For an evening spent in your company
And perhaps I don't live up
To your glamour and finesse
But we will never know
Unless we take a chance I guess
So come with me tonight

An Affair with Persephone
My Goddess is beautiful
Her skin is like bronze.
Her eyes are like the most fathomless pools,
Burning sapphires in the night.
Her lips, full and dark, call to me as the sea to posidon
Her hair is thick and black as night
Tumbling down her back like an endless waterfall
My Goddess is delightful
When she laughs in the faces of her adversaries
Her eyes glint like violet steel
When she bathes in the tears of their wives and children she glows with the innocent joy of a child
Its then when she bids me to come to her

To Oscar
Really?
Again?
What more do we need??
Is our reputation not bad enough,
Did you feel you had to help?
Just being born into this culture gets me pegged as racist
Homophobic
An intolerant poppie*
Now you want to add homocidal too?
Has this country not been humiliated enough?
In the span of two years
We lose a national treasure
Humilliate ourselves at the moment the whole world is watching
And have our most prolific athlete commit murder!
You were the spokesperson for everything good
You showed the world...

A compliment here
A smile there
A brush of your hand
A lingering hug
Am I paranoid?
Is that a blush?
A sprits of perfume
A bit of mascara
Trust me love we're just friends
She's texting all night
She's drifting away
'I just need some space.'
They're having lunch
I sit and wait
You're ridiculous babe, you know I would never
How could you even accuse me of that?
I'm not going to justify that with an answer
Until the day I saw you together
You were in his...

On the Road
Bumping along the empty road
Potholes like scars a pockmarked cheek
The smell of dust and pleather hangs in the air
In our single cab bakkie* with a bench seat.
Laughing about nothing and everything,
All at once
And gossiping like bored ou tannies**
Or just sitting together in tranquil silence
Enjoying eachothers company.
We're on our way to the crocodile farm
Or Sodwana Bay to drift along the rainbow coloured world.
Maybe St. Lucia for the endless stretches of soft white sand,
And memories of ashes scattered in the...

The North Men
Over the sea
Milled to salt
Where giants rest
And serpents lurk
Where the wind, it stabs
Cold as ice
Where even the most savage fear to pass
That's where you'll find the Norsemen.
On monstrous waves
In the darkest storm
Riding the tempest
Like a spirited horse
That's where you'll find the norsemen.
In the midst of the battle
Where blood flows like mead
And the line between friend and foe is blurred
Where there is no room for grudge, nor prejudice
Where your heart pounds with the...
