POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write what comes to mind. I collect inspiration throughout my day, then come home and put them into words. Some days are more inspirational than others, so naturally the stretch of time between each poem release is rather inconsistent. Sorry about that!
I Woke Up Today
I woke up today in pain.
It was a pain that permeated.
It started in my heart,
It spread to my soul.
Its roots reached into my gut.
It didn't loosen as I stretched.
I woke up today realizing,
That I didn't matter.
Perhaps I did to my mother,
Maybe truly to a friend or two.
But the more I was aware,
The deeper that pain grew.
I had come to terms.
When I got out of bed,
I found that nobody noticed.
The floorboards popped,
But the world couldn't know.
Same for how I made my eggs.
Billions had risen as I slept....
It was a pain that permeated.
It started in my heart,
It spread to my soul.
Its roots reached into my gut.
It didn't loosen as I stretched.
I woke up today realizing,
That I didn't matter.
Perhaps I did to my mother,
Maybe truly to a friend or two.
But the more I was aware,
The deeper that pain grew.

When I got out of bed,

Youthful
Lightly, lightly tip toe now,
Along the Tudor rows.
And share with me the guiltless feel,
Of cobble against our toes.
Dancing through the sullen alleys,
Let's shake our weary limbs.
And race among the market stalls,
As pure as Seraphim.
The town is sleeping through the night,
Oh, the time that they could use!
So let's not tarry for a second,
Time is all we have to lose.
Nothing's greater than eager love,
That won't end just as soon.
It dims us more so than the stars,
Yet seems bright against the Moon.
I'll...

Fiddler in an Auburn Wood
Along a wooded road,
Paved with auburn leaves,
I saw just in passing,
A fiddler in the trees.
Each note was stretched,
And with his bow was fetched,
A lulling and lilting sound.
I did not stop,
As if driven by the crop,
And I passed by his oaken crown.
On my way back,
I came along that way,
For to see if he was playing still,
Or if he'd gone away.
I'd much to do,
And his tune that grew,
Louder in my head,
Shook me still,
Each lilt and trill,
To the auburn forest lead.
Then at last I came upon,
Those...
Paved with auburn leaves,
I saw just in passing,
A fiddler in the trees.
Each note was stretched,
And with his bow was fetched,

Remember
Pick up the pieces
Of your broken mirror.
I promise you,
The picture won't be any clearer.
But trust in me,
And I'll trust in you.
Wait for me,
It's the least we could do.
Days have come
And nights have passed.
I can't remember
How long each one lasts.
On that dusty highway,
I know the hours went by fast.
But trust in me,
And I'll trust in you.
Wait for me,
It's the least we could do.
Thinking about love
Or thinking of the moon.
Or none of the above.
Or that night last June.
But...
Of your broken mirror.
I promise you,
The picture won't be any clearer.
But trust in me,
And I'll trust in you.
Wait for me,
It's the least we could do.

A Restless Heart
It was underneath the willow tree,
Where he was clear for all to see.
There he chanced to gaze at me,
And the melting of my heart.
I was taken by his face,
It took me from the time and place.
His eyes of coal and hair of lace,
And his courting was an art.
I never thought in all the world,
That I would find my heart unfurled.
His face was tan and his hair was curled,
Like a Spanish don.
It was underneath the willow tree,
Where he kissed me as he pleased,
When love was locked and bodies seized,
And trembling like a fawn....
Where he was clear for all to see.
There he chanced to gaze at me,
And the melting of my heart.
I was taken by his face,

Prayer of the Broken Apostle
When God breathed into the clay,
Within his breath was a covenant.
"You will find me.
Not among the snakes,
Nor among the ticks of your kind.
But among those brave enough to be faithful,
Yet craven enough to hide.
Among those strong enough to seek me,
And yet weak enough to slip from my grasp.
For I come easily to no soul,
And yet readily to all."
It is those who strive,
And those who slip that believe the greatest.
Those that have risen to the pinnacles,
And have fallen from grace,
Who have erred,
Who have been...

Everything is Just the Same
End of times.
I can see the distance.
Open mind.
Even if for just this instance.
But it's so hard to complain,
When everything is just the same.
Open door.
Waiting for God to close it.
Its not hard to ignore,
The fact you chose it.
But it's so hard to complain,
When everything is just the same.
I wish I could fly.
Jump the roof without dying.
I wish I could cry,
Cause' then it would look like I'm trying.
But it's so hard to complain,

Linger No Longer (Upon the Hill of Tragedy)
As once down the Hill of Tragedy,
I dragged my heart behind me.
That I had to climb up first to descend,
Is naught but life's cruel irony.
For, it would seem, that none are safe,
From the tempest's choice to bind them.
And soon in tendrils dark they're wrapped,
By the ever mournful wraith.
Heavy now, since the choice to descend.
But though the pain lingers,
And the Hill quite real,
The wraith is only pretend.
At the Hill's foot is a vast sea,
The salt cleans the wounds.
The cool water cures the burns, ...

Oak in the Meadow
In the dewy emerald meadows
Shining with blissful radience,
In recognition of the mounting Sun.
That scented lawn beneath the Oak.
Solitary and crooked with age,
Arthritic fingers adorned with leafy jewels,
Grasp towards the sky as if to hold fast
A timeless and ageless staff for to balance.
Lonesome is the Oak.
His sighing can be heard with every gust.
His rustling a restless anxiety and longing.
In the distance He sees the forest.
Far beyond His meagre clearing.
In wanting to join them His knots moan.
The pines whisper to themselves....

Pilgrim in the Desert
Don't cry, don't cry, my Lord.
I will surely hear you.
For the bible is your Word,
And your will to see me through.
Don't fear, Don't fear, my Lord.
For your children are in place.
And not but faith as our sword,
Until our saving Grace.
I'll not rest, I'll not rest, my Lord.
For your gospel soothes my soul.
And the Jordan I shall ford,
To reach your everlasting goal.
I will preach, I will preach, my Lord.
For the brotherhood of Man.
My cross of wood and not of gold,
I'll not perish in the sand.
...

I Thought I Was Safe
When I heard the news.
God, when I heard the news,
I cried.
I cried wholly and deeply.
If you can't understand why,
That's fine.
I don't expect you to understand.
To understand what it is like growing up
Without defence.
My ears were filled with horror stories.
I grew up with stories of a dead boy
Nailed to a fence.
Suicide after suicide on the news.
And I watched with gutwrenching guilt
I was comfortably silent.
Silent on the issue and silent of myself.
The guilt never left me but to be honest,
My shut mouth was reliant....
God, when I heard the news,
I cried.
I cried wholly and deeply.
If you can't understand why,
That's fine.
I don't expect you to understand.

For Ysabelle
You seem so small,
And the world is so vast.
But its yours to hold,
Its mysteries unfold,
For you to grip it fast.
This world is filled with wonder,
But only if you look.
Your mother's pride,
She'll never hide,
And your father's heart you took.
You are touched by every sight,
And your eyes are open wide.
To this, don't let go,
While you grow,
Keep nothing in your heart inside.
My advice to give to you,
My small and precious girl.
Keep your chin up,
Love will fill your cup,
And every flower will unfurl.
And the world is so vast.
But its yours to hold,
Its mysteries unfold,
For you to grip it fast.
This world is filled with wonder,
But only if you look.
Your mother's pride,
She'll never hide,
And your father's heart you took.
You are touched by every sight,
And your eyes are open wide.
To this, don't let go,
While you grow,
Keep nothing in your heart inside.
My advice to give to you,
My small and precious girl.
Keep your chin up,
Love will fill your cup,
And every flower will unfurl.
