POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
My education and work experiences revolved around mathematical figures and computations. Never in my life did I imagine that I could write beautiful poetry; one that comes from the heart. "The Fire Within" is my first published book.
Singing Over the Clouds
Haven’t you noticed anything
in and around your surrounding?
Concrete jungles are sprouting
faster than the waves can return to the seashore
The air we breathe is polluted,
murky waters flow along the rivers—
once crystal clear and friendly.
I wonder if the children who were born today
will still have rivers to swim and trees to climb,
for trees are dwindling, bird sanctuaries are gone;
Walnut orchards and strawberry farms
gave way to silicon manufacturing firms;
Modern subdivisions are on the rise,
Global warming—is it the...

Shadows of Windswept Past
Haunted by shadows of the past--
the present, not so promising;
my future lies in the beacon of clouds -
the only arm left in my hidden armory.
Turbulence in the skies--
stirs the clouds of uncertainty;
economic depression looms overhead
as if tomorrow would never come.
Endless wars and genocide--
seems to me the times are not a changin';
prophetic words of Dylan held close to my heart
for so long, until now.
Holocaust and genocide--
kins of mass killing and destruction;
global warming and famine--the end
of days - is...

Jasmine-Scented Pathways
As we leisurely walk, I wonder how
My wishes--have all come true!
Here I am, holding hands with you
Along jasmine-scented pathways—
Leading to the nearby park
I used to only dream about these days
When you and I will be together
Nothing else matters, but us—
And the beauty of nature around us:
The birds singing a wonderful sound
Praising the daylight on the top
Of the tall sycamore trees—with their leaves
Casting shadows, towering tall above us
Gently kissed by the early morning frost.
We like to walk early, unlike Robert who...

A Toast Once More
TO EDGAR ALLAN POE
It was a cold September night when I first met you
Trying to memorize your poem--which I had no clue
Wished my teacher did not assign to me: The Raven
It was too long, but can’t complain what was given
Reading upon so many lines--until break of dawn
My mouth became so dry, I could hardly yawn.
Since that cold night you lived within my aching heart
I tried to write a poem, but didn’t know how to start
Wished you were here--so you could be my mentor
Having memorized your poems, I became I good orator

Modern Day Cannibals
It was a cold early September morning,
the yawning sun barely peeking
from the curtain of clouds nestled
atop a mountain from yonder;
this young Wall Street executive sets off
on a luxury yacht with his beautiful wife.
Their destination unknown--
just trying to get away from it all,
a month after the worst financial crisis
since the Great Depression;
they sailed the seven seas for days
stopping only to gaze at the lovely stars,
and watch the crescent moon
slowly disappearing until they fall asleep...

Darkness Before The Storm
Doubts and paranoia swarmed the city
darker than cumulus clouds, hovering...
just waiting to be triggered
into a perfect storm!
Dark secrets: secrets within a secret
instilled in our minds
sow doubt and paranoia,
until ingrained in our hearts.
When can we get away from being sucked
into this Orwellian habit of government
treating us like mushrooms?
After being kept in the dark
for so long, and fed with bullshit--
don't we deserve to see the light?
While waiting for the perfect storm,
blood sucking leeches continue

Social Outcast
Ostracized by society, untouched by many
the homeless wanderer starts his day
putting his tent – his nightly sojourn
into a shopping cart that wobbles,
as he begins his daily ritual
of combing the expanse of the city.
How long can he endure
so much discrimination,
and persecution from the same people
who used to call him Sir
and relied their daily graces
from his merciful hands
before the market collapsed?
Now a vagabond—a pitiful sight
considered trash in society,
his so called friends now gone
won’t even come...

My Ghost Lover
(Sestina)
Every night as I stroll in a nearby park
I always see this lady – pretty as skylark
Her hair was long, black as the night--
Shimmering silver, accentuated by moonlight
Rumor was: she’s the nymph in the forest
If you fall in love with her, she’ll take your soul
Her beauty has captured my lonely soul
I never miss my nightly stroll in the park
Especially when one full moon of a night
I heard her lovely voice, tuneful as a skylark
Her voluptuous body reflected by moonlight
Adorned the façade of the silent, dark forest

SEVENTH DIMENSION
Quantum physics and nano-technology combined
defied logic and conventional methodology;
New science frontiers in the horizon
waiting to be explored: a new dimension!
We now have the parallel dimension
between the living and the dead;
The third being the realms of fantasy,
where black and white magic endlessly battle
for supremacy on their vast dominions.
The fourth, fifth and sixth dimensions
already have taken their claims;
so I take the seventh, on this seventh month,
where a new era of human hybrids shall...

The First Hybrid Race
Floating endlessly in space without dimension
until reaching pre-programmed destination:
Earth - now barren, dark and chaotic
silent witness to nuclear holocaust
Born in space amidst chaos on Earth
from an alien and a human specie
to start a new breed of race:
the first alien-human hybrid
Has the intelligence of Einstein,
strength and agility of Superman
This new generation of earthling
will make the former, a duckling
Travelling faster than light
turning everything in its path
into a quagma of oblivion...
