POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I pretend to be a poet.
Chaos and Hope
My eyes betray me.
They answer the questions I ignore. Ask for help when I act like I can do it alone.
They tell the stories I try to forget. Reveal the things I hide away.
They convey the emotions I suppress with simulated euphoria. Announce the fears I try so hard to conquer.
When I am lost in thought, they let everyone into my head, projecting my thoughts onto a highway billboard.
My eyes are honest when I do not choose to be.
Sometimes when I smile, my eyes shine like wishing stars. Gleaming bright hope through the thick darkness.
Other times...

The Edges of a Laced Up Corset
Sometimes you look at her
And you look into her eyes
Do you notice the way they don't shine?
Pink curved lips don't disguise
The movie playing inside
Hollowing out a heart
That used to love to love.
She thinks she has hidden the truth
Of the seasons that have passed
But even after the scars fade
The memories still last.
Shes the girl who always smiles
But shes fighting within
Shouting words at a cracked mirror
That scare even herself.
No words of love and care
Can reach her in this state
Her screams are fading out...

Abuse Times Three
I remember that girl
And all the things she did at thirteen
Without thinking that her future
Would be shaped by her past
She grew up so urgently
But was just a kid lost in life
She got caught in a web of lies
That kept tangling around her ankles
You thought she was dating boys
But she was educated on emotions
And found that there was a reason
For her lack of opposite sex attraction
Desperate to prove her worth
She searched for validation
From every avenue she could travel
Losing her innocence like she...

The Beginning And...
Every star
Is the light from a window
In heaven
Each room
Is possessed by a soul that
Has passed
At night
The angels look down on
Our world
They watch
As we wander the earth
Without aim
They scream
We have our priorities
In chaos
But their
Voices only come out as a
Gentle breeze
If you
Listen with ears that
Are aware
You can
Hear their careful warning that in
Due time
The tables
Will turn and so very soon nothing
That matters
When alive
Will actually matter in
...The end.

Painted Secret
I strayed from your heart
Into the warmth of their pride
But it was so cold without
You setting fires in my life,
So once again I fumbled over
Who I am and want to be
I tripped right into contentment
Causing our lives to collide.
Your eyes are striking
They remind me
Of the color of our sky
Right after the rain stops,
And the sun is peaking out
From behind the clouds just
Like your eyes sometimes do
From behind your bangs.
Despite the fact I have
Sparks igniting all around me
I will not speak up and...

It Will End
I hear your honest voice
Sweetly handing out lies
To please biased ears which
Are ready to cue the tongue
In a deep believing battle
For soul and enternal life
Powerless we struggle
For equality's recognation
Under the fist of a reign
Fearful of our permanent death
So take to my side
And stand by it
No matter the torture
Inflicted on our minds
Or how matted and grizzled
Our hope gets
We must play their game for a time
And operate under the dictatorship
Soon though
It will end with a revolution.

Innocent Fearlessness
Sitting in a room
Silent and secluded
Full of friendly people
Spitting out laughter
That spins around me.
Chaotic chatter driven
By teenage hormones
Chasing a night of
Passionless pursuits.
Just watch and observe as
Innocent fearlessness
And a lack of perspective
Cover the windows
Of future’s that could
Be so bright.
Silent and secluded
Full of friendly people
Spitting out laughter

Remember
Do you remember when
Falling wasn’t about
Love?
Do you remember when
Searching wasn’t for the
One?
Do you remember when
Death was a word
Not a wish?
Do you remember when
Wounds were kissed
Not self inflicted?
Do you remember when
"Coming down" meant from a playhouse
Not from drugs?
Do you remember when
"Losing it" meant a favorite toy
Not your innocence?
Do you remember when
You could face the
Mirror?
Do you remember when
The end didn’t seem so
Near?
Do...

Pray, Lindsey
Threats,
Will they silence you?
Maybe if we ignore you…
Fears,
Will they shame you?
Maybe if we ground you…
Fights,
Will they stop you?
From living how you choose...
You say "This is how I was born
So this is how I will live"
But Lindsey, I question you
Is this how you want to die?
If we beat you down,
If we take your hope,
If we tear apart your life,
Maybe we will make you change.
Don’t fight the therapy
You have to go
You don’t have a say—
In anything about...
Will they silence you?
Maybe if we ignore you…
Fears,
Will they shame you?
Maybe if we ground you…
Fights,
Will they stop you?
From living how you choose...
You say "This is how I was born

Preprogrammed
Your words are so violent
You might as well use your fists to
Deliver blows I can't hide
In my mess of scars
And you can deny your fault
With lowered eyes and a taste
Of the guilt that is leaving me with
Lifeless eyes and an empty stomach
My pain filled eyes beg for help
But your anger's burn is searing my flesh
Causing my pupils to contract and scream
"SO THIS IS WHAT LOVE HAS COME TO BE!?"
I calmly explain I had no choice and
Tell you to stop rolling your angry eyes
So you can close them tight
And...

What They Expect
Accusing eyes
Burn our flesh
Because what we are
They cannot accept.
They love with rules
And expect us to comply
It doesn't matter
What we feel inside.
We are shamed
For not being what they expect
Their gaze won't wander
Their eyes are set.
On the way
That we should live life:
Get a husband, have some kids,
And be a loving wife.
Well a wife I will be
But not to a man
That is as clear
As the lay of the land.
Burn our flesh
Because what we are
They cannot accept.
They love with rules
And expect us to comply
It doesn't matter
What we feel inside.
We are shamed
For not being what they expect
