POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am just starting out really. In my teens I would casually write poems from time to time, then of course life happened. Now I am a mother with a wealth of life experience behind me, I feel inspired to get back to writing.
Slow Death by Compromise
Terrible times when the mouse at sea
Became trapped in a web of cheese,
Yet had no teeth to bite himself free.
The panicking eyes of realisation;
Reminds me of my own entrapments
Where once I had the capacity, now
I can only sit quietly and observe.
Such sad yet morbidly happy times
When the need to struggle and escape;
Slowly becomes a distancing memory.
As the mouse slows his thrashing, and
Stops frivolously wasting his energy
He understands the need instead, to wait
For that cheese to slowly melt away.
Became trapped in a web of cheese,
Yet had no teeth to bite himself free.
The panicking eyes of realisation;
Reminds me of my own entrapments
Where once I had the capacity, now

When the need to struggle and escape;

You
You are the colour
of unconditional love;
Your purity of emotion,
cleansing my senses.
So softly,
so gently.
Like an angel's smile,
you caress my heart;
the warmth of your being
reminds me to feel.
To forgive,
to forget.
Your blue eyes remind me
of a pain free existence.
An understanding simplified;
a universe of love.

Brewing Emotion
Eventless gatherings
of seemingly insignificant gain.
No fanfare of trumpets,
or announcing arrival;
just another cup of tea.
Casual interactions,
the tale of mundane annoyance.
There's nothing special here,
it is ordinary occurance;
We'll see him again soon.
Infrequent visitations,
and another unused teabag.
He's a very busy man:
a misconstrued understanding.
"We'll catch him next time".
Unrelenting torture,
a painful depression untold.
There's not much to say,
except disbelief of suicide....

The Last Time
When last I saw you standing there,
strong, unassuming, a family man;
your darkness whispered in my ear:
told me where it would take you;
and where it would leave you.
Cool, like a wave washing over me,
pure and unashamed, your soul spoke;
playing scenarios of what was to be:
told me where it would take you;
and where it would leave you.
It's now so difficult to comprehend,
brave, unafraid, like a direct link;
to how a life would come to an end.
Your soul spoke to mine that day,
and told me death was on it's way.

Outsider
You're on the outside looking in,
and the ceremony will soon begin;
but here your sorrow has no place,
for did you even know his face?
The alien member in family fold,
"no room here" is what you're told.
A desperate want to be invited,
but you're not part of the great united.
So drift away then, to solitude.
Just don't expect them to include;
and there's no reason for this strife!
This door slammed shut within your life.
There's never a stronger message sent:
No offers of help and no assistance. ...

I Remember
I remember her,
and that penetrating stare.
The way she used to watch me,
not a care;
in that flat above the shop.
I remember booze,
and talking hours on end,
as we sat smoking with
our friends;
in that flat above the shop.
I remember night,
didn't need to ask her twice,
intoxication paved the way
so enticed;
in that flat above the shop.
I remember skin,
olive toned, rougher than mine.
Pressed against my body,
so divine;
in that flat above the shop.
I remember hair, ...

I Wish
In response to BlackSoul's "Crime"
l wish I were in that position.
Unexpected escape route,
pardoned from a sentence
of marital description.
That first walk into sunlight.
I wish I were in that position,
with no question of sentiment;
such a betrayal
I would welcome with glee.
Fate deals a lucky hand.
I wish I were in that position,
eggshells going untrodden,
freeflowing conversation;
from despicable crime
comes promise of freedom.

Empath
My winning entry to the Lonely In A Crowded World competition, I am deeply appreciative to those who voted.
Walking into a crowded room,
this is easier said than done.
The immediate deluge of energy,
pressing hotly against my skin;
constricting the space in my head.
Hearing every conversation, yet none,
casual chatter becomes white noise;
audio dyslexically twisting my brain.
Alien emotions perculate in my chest,
and suddenly I feel deeply saddened.
The unexpected rising of naked grief,
overwhelming and all consuming. ...

Unprepared
Entry for Depression competition
(about post natal depression, coping with a newborn and 2 year old)
With intent of the innocent
words scorch like fire.
An unconditional love
has brought us to this.
My nerves are in tatters,
from sharp indifference
and unwanted conflict.
Fear and panic consume me.
As their crying escalates,
I gasp for serenity.
Surrender me to the dark,
where I can no longer feel.
The small one is violent
and shouts for my breast;
with casual disregard

Gone
So I am alone then, here in our house;
a moment of solitude at last.
It's thankfully hard to miss you,
anger is better than pain.
Fleeting kiss and farewell.
Your scent still lingers,
as do your tears;
but it's done.
Finished.

Water
(Entry for acrostic limerick competition)
Whenever I go in the sea,
A sensation comes over me.
The drowning child,
Events so wild,
Remembering it isn't for me.

The drowning child,
Events so wild,
Remembering it isn't for me.

Never Departed
Can you see her? She's right there.
With all her spiritual strength,
she sends you her love, her energy.
She protects you when you need it,
surrounding you like a familiar duvet.
Can you see her? She's right there.
The love she sends not as before,
the physical being long since passed.
Yet still she feeds your soul unseen.
Comes to you in the silent darkness.
Can you see her? She's right there.
Quietly you shed your tears,
for someone who has never left.
"Lift up your heart and be happy"
is the message...
