EXAMPLES OF LYRIC POETRY:

A FAMOUS AMERICAN POET:

Emily Dickinson

This example of lyric poetry is a poem by Emily Dickinson named I Felt a Funeral in my Brain. It describes a person who is going insane, or thinks they are:

I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading - till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through -
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a
Drum -Kept beating - beating - till I thought
My Mind was going numb -
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space - began to toll,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange
Race Wrecked, solitary, here -
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then -

Between shadows and soul...

I keep hearing voices inside my head,
They were shouting, insisting!
Spinning words I couldn't resist..

Lost in my shadows,
I hear these voices,
“Drown yourself!
Starve your throat with the spirit of vodka,
Flaunt your lungs in burning smoke,
Savour your fears until you’re numb,
Taste your tears until you can finally let go!”
“Come here! Come closer!
Feel your warmth and agony!
Love, bridges you from solitude,
Save yourself, find a way to finally let you go…”

Lost in my soul,
I hear these voices,
“Hold my hand, never let go.
I’ll save you; find a way to not let me go,
Come here! Come closer!
We’ll find our way back home
Stay still; we’ll make it I can see through!
Don’t let me go! I don’t want you to go!”

Torn between these voices,
I am lost in the shadows,
Then hatred, then sorrow,
Bewildered, blinded by love and hell,
“You can’t live like this; you’re sick!
Broken promises, lies casted,
Never look back, just keep walking and Let go!”
Then these voices,
They got me lost in my soul,
Confusing, “Don’t let her go,
Don’t be stuck in the shadows,
Admit it; you never could let go!
You don’t want to let her go!!!”'

The Defiance (from The Magdalen Laundries)

Unhampered with the blemish of such dark
heaven, the moon bathes me lavender pale.
From bleached sins scribed in some book of a Kell
I will air my tale to the meadowlark.

Tonight I am not rinsed in blame, and I
will name the man in the moon, Fearless Fates
pinning open stoned cathedral gates
of rune, renouncing the Magdalen lie.

You fold up our females, fresh, the sweet stead
of feminine light, draping Irish hips.
Jesus blessed angles on our Gaelic lips
with the wash of innocence, soon to spread.

Kissing the pearls of my clean rosary
God's laugh, water for your profanities.

This eve, the bells sing in sweetest discant.
The whole of our nudity is a ring
of fresh linen. Unashamedly bring
these alabaster breasts a crisp new chant.

No prattles of virgin prayers to rattle
the burn in lye, a yearn that we will die
as we lived is this canticle, and I
sing the song of free women, not chattel.

Unhampered with the blemish of such dark
heaven, the moon bathes me lavender pale.
From bleached sins scribed in some book of a Kell
I will air my tale to the meadowlark.

Sing lark of "The Magdalen Laundries"
and of those things that will always stain me ...

(This is a Limerick. It is not written in the traditional sense, but still lyrical non the less.)

The Determination - (from The Magdalen Laundries)

There once were some Sisters of Charity
barren with a virginal rarity.
No red thoughts upon them would stain
and Jesus is the source of holy pain
according to their mindless clarity.

There once were Mother Messianic brides.
Toughened, their tattered minds, and wedding hides.
" We will make you fit, silent and, pure.
Beatings of angel's wings you'll endure.
In our hands is where your groom now abides."

There once were some Sisters of Charity
determined with fanatic's clarity
to make us a family of harm
baptized in all of their bloodless charm.
Oh Dear Lord I pray, come, and please spare me.

JAITO
my   mind  was  always  on  my  pen
even  the  days  nobody  knew  my  name
i locked  up  myself   writing  a lot  of  stuff  to  blaze
became   different  than  anybody  else
some  ackowledged   and  praised  my  game
most  loved  to   describe  me  as  stupid  and  insane
others had  simply   cold   blooded  hate
suprisingly  it  started  from  my  friends
i  was  never   appreciated   although  i  was  the  best.

my  mind  is  always   on  my  pen
still  the little  kid, difference   now  is  fame
i  got  huge  numbers   following  me  i  didnt  expect
im  in  the  best  raters  list  plus   a  trophy  ahead
i   proove   each   and  every  word  i  say
haters   can  go    and  burn  themselves  in  hell
this  is  what  i   do,homey  use  your  brain
as  you  hate  me  your   sister  is  crying  for sex
im  hungry   and    will  always   dorminate
this  is  jaito  and i  got  the  bg   fish   goodest  is  next
he  got   so  much   to  cook, let  him  explain...

goodest

my mind will forever be on my pen
describing the way i gets it in
with my brother from a different mother, jaito my friend
we keep it real, ain't ever trying to pretend
as we pass through this Life trying to avoid sin
but every different society has the same blend
for this reason we see it as more than a trend
no matter where we go some will only see our skin
but death to the bigots because they will never win
because they deny the help my complexion tries to extend
simply because they know their woman wants us to bend
them over anything so they can have that passionate grin
that resembles a frown but its the greatest joy there has ever been
& that is the reason my mind stays on my pen

thats right i use a pen but some will use the pencil
as the inspired creative utensil
but no matter what we use
remember that we never lose
as long as the ink hits the paper
to describe another caper
from Africa to America
such mass hysteria
loose women in skimpy clothes
& fake men, thats how it goes
but whatever you do please remember this
as long as we Keep God First On The List
that shows us what Life is all about
there will be no problems for neither jaito nor goodest & were out.....

                    < homeland >

              she spoke of her homeland
              (an archipelago of chocolate islands
               in a sweet blue sea)
and of how the lips of the sun
would kiss them as they fished
              and of the colors
the countless colors between sky and bone
              and how she'd watch
              as the night
              hid them away
and of her sister and the tortoise
              and her mother's stories
              that sometimes stretched til morning
and of her father lost at sea
              and how each year
              her mother knew
              the very morning
              the first albatross would come
              and how she'd stare
at the shimmer just above the sea
until it turned to crescent six foot wings

Thank  you  kitty  for  giving us  this  opportunity
but  i  think  im  going  to  go  lyrical  on  love..please  don't  hold  me
back...here  we  go:-

WHERE  IS  LOVE?
Looking right or  left   for  the  perfect  one
Is  like   looking  for  an   angel  who  has  a  gun
Its  been  disaster   for  the  ordinary   simple  man
Who  ends  the   day  weary   after   being  burnt   by  the   sun.

Everywhere  classic chic’s   buzzing   around  in  town
When  I  great   them, they  prove  to  me  fierce   and  proud
Some   locked   some   have  other  options   they  want  a  guy   with  pounds
While   I’m  here   a  looser   all  I  receive  is   a  frown.

A  hurting lifestyle, no hug, no  kiss   no  nothing
No  one   to  listen   to  your   story  hats  bubbling
The   bed  is  cold   and  gets  worse   when  you  are  lying
This  kills  and  the   worst   skills   of  surviving.

Where  is love? where   can  I get  my  perfect   queen
Who  can  lean  on  me   and  feel  what  I  believe
When  will  be   the  one   who  can   make  me  think   life  is   sweet
Because   its  hard here, living   with  this  painful  dreams.

What  is love, I  cant  find  a  definition
I  cant  find  the  one    with  the   priceless   dedication
It  hurts   being  in  this  lonely  situation
Love  is  the  only  solution  and   the   precious  medication.
WHERE  IS  LOVE?

cant handle a country girl

Got that motor bike and skin head attitude
Lone star state born and raised shop tattoo
Do you feel like a man with those heavy metal bumper stickers?
"A real man loves satan" impresses your posse of dick lickers
But honey, I know all your deep dark secrets

You can't hang with the ladies when it comes to home made Louisiana moonshine
Talk a big game till you vomit like a high school cheerleading bitch cryin'
I know why you wear those leather boots and act so undignified
You take the dominate role only to leave a girl hot and unsatisfied
Honestly, I can fuck myself better then you ever could

You like them red neck ditzy women
Little obedient house wives with a knack for country cookin'
Too bad for you I'm not some stereotype hiding behind a BOYS silhouette
But rather, the kind that cusses like a sailor and chain smokes cigarettes
The submissive role never was my forte

I'm not that bible thumpin' Christian catering to your every whim
But don't worry, I promise not to tell why you refuse to buy Slim Jims
Your entire 'jail house, lightning bolt' persona is a fucking joke
We both know you love being spit on while you're bound and choked
It's hilarious how the moment I sobered up I remembered why I left your sorry ass

Glass Camouflage

Caught between the sea and sky
air becomes an icy haze.
and shadows of its former life
are crystallized as fallen rain.
Look not from your eyes
see with your mind
that beauty means nothing when you're going to die.
Open your mind
close your heart
can you feel yourself falling, falling apart?

High above the sights and sounds a wisp of light far out in space
reaches out towards the earth
and wraps it in its warm embrace.
I've walked through the valley
and I've seen the light
that nothing escapes
from the passing of time.
Wrapping the sea and the air
all as one
pulling together and
somehow falling apart.

Kitty  thank  you  again  for  this  compettion
but  im  on  my  last  bit  wher i  go  all
kyrical about  poetry...Dont  hold  me  back...
WELCOME  EVERYONE....

Hallo kitty   I  just  wrote   a  cool  poem  for  you
I  googled  a  nice  picture  and  posted  it  too
I just  been  on  this  competition    which  was  through
Even  though  I  scored  no  trophy, my  love  for  poetry  was  true
So  please   look  at  this  poem  again  and  read  it  times  two
Whatever the  topic, love erotica, dark  understand  its  cool
When  I  see  them  reads  my  joy  is  beyond  the  hooks.

Love  me   for  the  rhymes  and  lines  and  spit
Like  me  when   I’m  deep   down  on  this  poetry  shit
My  aim   is  to  write  erotica  to  make  the  sweetest  pussy   scream
All  my  love  poems  are  dedicated   to  the  prettiest  sexy   queen
I  write  observational  poetry   to  make the  unseen  clean
So  im  on  my knees  please   read  my  stuff  and  make  it  big
Follow me  and  comment   how  you  feel  later  put  me  in  your  reading  list
And  doubt   forget   to  give  me   this  trophy, trust  me  I  really  need  to  win.

Enough   about  me  I  guess  no w  you  know  my  aim
Whenever  you  see  a ‘poem’  look  deep  down  what  I  just  said
I’m  the  king  of  the  dopest   rhymes  but  other  poets  also  got  game
But  whenever   our  ink  flows  our  message  is  the  best
No  novelist, no  playwright  and  no  artist  can  compare  to  what  we  make
Our  poetry  is  the   reason  this  other  arts  got  name
We  make  the  stories  we  make  history  from   whatever  we  spell
So  my  friend  read  this  poem  once  again  and  think  in  your  head
What  you  can  figure  out  is  that  we  are  the  best
So  love  me  as  your  poet, love  my  poem  and  never  get  afraid
When  they  ask   you  why!!!just  tell  them  poetry  is  the  best.

carried and placed upon my head
worn about so gallantly, faithfully

scaled it for the miles
in the click of mini
envisioned pathways
