"The bottom of the Sea" Kinda?
Lighter, for a change
Lighter for a change,
my disposition is betraying me
Making me a fool
Pleasantly mocking my judgement
This is happiness
A suiting word.
For a coward like me.
If there was a warm honeyed thought
reverberating with kindness
that would be me
Who would have ever thought?
Following the passage to the ocean
I'm contented with possibilities
Satisfaction a step away
Did you know that you could find
the moon in the sea?
I heard that lyrically uttered,
Hit me, made curiosity flow.
For I am gleeful, joyous,
I won't hold this in skepticism
I'll free my mind to explore
For there is not a darkening malice
Clouding in my mind
A change from me, I know,
How confusing
How uplifting to my mood
Back to the moon.
If the moon is in the sea,
Then I'd like to find it.
Good-natured that I am
With brimming content
I think that in that event
nothing can go wrong,
I will step into the cold waters.
How refreshing as the caressing undertow
pulls me in for an embrace.
It is all good to me because,
for once I am happy,
which makes me immortal
In a sense?
I'd like to think so.
The sky becomes a distant memory
the current sweeping me away
It's ok
I want to find the moon,
though lack of oxygen
could affect me
if I believed in such dark consequences
For now I think I'll just see
where this leads.
As my mind becomes
lighter for a change,
light headed?
I see bursting sparks.
These should be stars, they're beautiful
as stars should be.
I want to see the moon
At the bottom of the aphotic zone,
surely it would be hidden
Where light cannot penetrate?
Well I'll make it there,
for I see the stars,
and I'm sinking,
Down to the abyss
Sinking in regards to myself.
I realize I cannot breathe
This would be alarming,
If it wasn't such an intriguing thought
To embrace outer space
in the comforts of your own bottomless pit
I always wanted to be an astronaut
Now I'm living the dream
How lucky am I?
My lungs are searing
My thoughts blurring
But if only I ride the current deeper
I'm not often this careless
It feels good
To cast aside my hardened shell
In search of gratification
In the wanderings of my psyche
I'm so glad that I decided to let go,
To embrace bliss
To allow myself that one glimpse
Of something that could truly
Render me obsolete
It will be all right
For even a 1000 feet of water
weighing down on me
stealing my breath
cracking my lungs
freezing my blood
Couldn't kill me
could it?
not in this new found cheerfulness
Nothing could go this wrong
As to die under the waves
Searching for the moon
At least let me see it once
Before I succumb
There's so much pressure
Constricting me
Just let me see it
Just once.
I want to say I discovered something
Something astonishing
The universe unfolding around me
But I can't
I just can't...
comprehend
There's no pattern
no process
Only cold
bitter, treacherous realization
How could I have been so stupid?
To allow myself contentment?
To believe that it could exist?
If there is a moon in the sea
It has lead me astray,
Condemning me
Punishing me as it tightens it's grip
For having hope
It wrenches from my lungs
The last feeble breath I had left
Simultaneously crushing me
Without remorse.
Blackness settles in,
My heart struggles, in denial
The sun is too far away
Too much water overhead to rise
Out of this grave.
This is the most painful thing I've ever felt
Betrayed by the moon
I close my eyes,
I never saw anyway, no point now
I know the end is coming
I can feel the damnation spreading
Drowning...
dying...
gone
All is gone
Lighter, for a change
Lighter for a change,
my disposition is betraying me
Making me a fool
Pleasantly mocking my judgement
This is happiness
A suiting word.

Sooner or later, drunk or sober....
{not what you were after, but what the hell...}
the men are quiet tonight
low talk in dark places
a day of days
their most sacred moment
a new hero born
the truest kind of hero
one none can envy
off the coast from here
at night
on a swell-whipped sea
in a current you couldn’t swim against
over a reef famous for its sharks
on a fishing boat
while pulling up a writhing net
of soulless silver fish
young john palmer
went over the side
they couldn’t find him
he was gone
into the dark
on or under
nobody would say
but everybody
assumed
he yelled until it almost drowned him
he has not said that
but we know it’s true
and then he stripped
his clothes off
turned his back
on the unreachable boat
and swam
all night swimming
with his mind
with the cold
and quiet
and darkness
with the keepers of fishermen’s karma
sharks
who, on this coast
eat seals
by attacking them
from beneath
shaking and tearing
dismembering to bite size
to chunks
sometimes the seals
scream
then, at the end of that
young john palmer
to make the shore
came in over
snapper rock
where only the most name-desperate
of surfers
fuck around
with those pounding percussions
of cruel momentum
when they found
young john palmer
he was so still
they thought him dead
so why a hero
this mere act of survival?
sooner or later
drunk or sober
young john palmer
will sleep

Sea Mother
I go for solace,
to descry the infinity.
She dresses herself
in a myriad of robes,
glittering gold of balmy airs,
frothing whites of exhilaration
or rolling grey rumbles
defiant of murderous gales.
Below the surface,
where the liquid lull nourishes,
her heart pulses
ceaselessly.
I immerse myself
in her infinite embrace.
I forgive the salty assail,
forging persistent tendrils of memory.
Months later,
stranded on the shore,
I cling to the whispers past,
reluctant to suffer her icy clinch.
Still she comforts me,
feeds me,
celebrates and mourns with me.
She waits enduringly.
Her greatest gift is
a mirror, held patiently.
I gather kissed pebbles,
gaze at the spray of rejoicing.
I feel the pull to the deep,
wrapped around my core.

I've swum to the deep parts again
a current of tears brings forth memories
old wounds reopened,
salt water rushes in
a hurricane of fear
brings sadness to the shores of my soul
leaving sediment in my heart,
the sea wall has fallen
the Barrier Reef of the brain
a long, narrow ridge of coral thoughts
beyond it
a lagoon of madness
sunken ships of lost feelings
trying to resurface
anger floats like driftwood
that came from the abyss
the hadal of the psyche
dark and deep
pain and angst
trying to come up for air
trenches of unfathomable lengths
linear and narrow,
run across my arm
scars of the past
tidal waves of a haunted legacy
beating down upon the coastline of insanity
immersed in torment
I try not to drown

How nice to see your entrance here, Hemi!
Your poem made me think of Ireland somehow, dont know why...
Maybe just a feel of the Irish culture which I love!
A great story told by a great poet.

Ataki, wonderful poem, wonderful write about the Sea as a whole.
And the Sea being like a mother, yes, its a special connection one can have with the sea.
Your poem describes that!

Does this qualify?
3:26 A.M. in Galveston
Just walking along the edge of tides soothing an oblivion of chaotic thoughts
While the sighs of the oceans tranquil shores radiate true majestic power and emotion
Completely fixated with the elegance portrayed in the moons shear influence caressing every crashing wave
Overwhelmed with passion and inspiration under the grace of blinding beauty, enlightened by the stars
Connection is the feeling I have as my feet begin sinking into the comfort of velvet wet sand
As well as admiration while the wind sporadically kisses every inch of my core, softly yet endearing
My third eye basically spewing from every pore as I analyze this breathtaking scenery beyond every word in my moderate vocabulary
So engrossed with fascination as the elements violently interact and fuse together
All the desolate conflict tormenting my state of mind has begun subsiding
Almost rekindling a flame of lost serenity as I humbly peer into the promise of the moons flirtation
Bewitching me with serene desires to embrace the world I so graciously have learned to ignore
Intuition and clarity are beginning to override all the senses of this pretentious cynic
Captivating the very essence of my spirit as Posiden valiantly lavishes my insecurities with pristine self reflection
In this simple night I have found a peace long forgotten amidst the calming whispers of Galvestons beach
I don't care about the beach house party or even the faces of my memories I have grown to miss and adore so immensely
I believe my soul has lead me here because this is exactly what I need and where I alone need to be

beneath the sea
let's do something
so unlike us and
go to the ocean
for the summer
walk along the beach
holding hands
feel the warm sand
beneath our feet
we'll don our
wetsuits and explore
beneath the sea
eat shrimp and ice cream
whenever we please
leave behind our
normal day to day lives
forget all of our worries
if only for a while

Sure, this poem is about the sea and indicates the senses in many ways. Kourtni, its a fantastic piece! Many sides of the sea in it.
