Poetry Contest

Write a poem from the perspective of an animal.
Don't say what animal you are, just write from their perspective.

Any length, though I'm not a fan of cascading rambles. So if it's long make it worth reading.

Only limit is two entries per poet, and feel free to guess the animals. That's all.

As long as you are the animal, and it's not a kitty, yep.

Not a kitty, check.....wait why?

TRAVELLER

Traveller is my name

My owner is a man in grey

The famous Robert E. Lee

We have a bond

That no-one else can see

I am a Southern Horse

I am not a Yankee

Faithful to the rebel cause

Faithful to my owner

Keep him safe with me

I fought at Antietam

I fought at Wilderness

The war was hard on the humans

The war was horrible for the horses

Noise and blood, exhaustion and starvation

Death for horses, death for men

My good master, General Lee

Lost the war

Surrendered the confederate army

On April 9, 1865

A day the South remembers as infamy

General Lee never got over the loss

Died in October 1870

I, Traveller, his faithful horse

Pulled the glass covered casket

I, Traveller, felt the loss

Died in June, 1871

We are buried almost together

Because we were family.

I took a trip to Lexington, Virginia
To the chapel at Washington and Lee College
General Lee is buried inside the Chapel
Outside the chapel, Traveller is buried
There is a gravestone.

Playmate of the Night
Some tremble at my apparition
Others avoid me like the pest
What false representations cling to me?

I’ve roamed for centuries
I’ve been worshiped
I’ve been slaughtered.

I’m still present and around
Witches and Druids love me
Priests and gullible people despise me.

My eyes gleam in the dark
My fur muted and abundant
Care to expose who I am?

Thanks for all the entries so far. Poetryman, I've looked through your poems and realised you've exceeded anything you've written before, so well done.

Thanks A, if you were watching, i revised it about 5 times before I decided it was done. The meyummm part took me a while, but it sure was a delicious finish, don't you think?

The ultimate lesson in evolution if you take anything from Darwin at all is that nature is ruthless no matter how we like to personify
her as a woman. -an obviously wise and profound man

Spirals

round and round we walk
slow steady spiral
no talk

the icy north wind
searches for our weak
hidden among the ranks
they fall we walk
no talk

there are good times
of course there are
but right now
we walk

Stumped. Was thinking goats, but that can't be right.
