Thanks to Miss Indie and stormz for your entries They're both really good. I have a feeling this contest will really be hard, but fun to pick a winner to :D

Lost Breath

Everything is a blurry light...

Breathing...an automatic function, becomes the biggest struggle

I try to make a sound

I can't even whimper...

Mommy, where are you?

I need you...

My lungs are so full of pain

They feel almost frozen...

I feel as if I'm drowning in my own, cold blood

A figure is now in my sight

I want to say, "Mister, do you know where my mommy is?..."

Instead, he sticks this pointy thing into me...

They shove round things in my body...

I'm scared...

Mommy, please come save me...

Then everything is black...

The blurry light appears again

I wish it would go away

I hear mommy's voice,

"Sleep now, my child; so you can wake up..."

Very little...had pneumonia in both lungs...that's one of the only things I remember in my childhood...

If you ever want to read the full account of my Near Death Experience, just check out my poem "Amongst the Dead". It is much more detailed than the version I posted here, and it tells about the really dark and freaky stuff that happened to me too. Not just the Heaven-related stuff, but the Hell-related things also. If you're interested in true accounts of NDEs, you'll find it very good reading for sure. I was out for three minutes, but it felt like I was gone for months. It was a very life-changing moment for me! ;)

Paralyzed

lying on a bed of searing ember; or
is it a late evening snow?

one final taste of the euphoric powder; all
that was needed to feel the addicting numbness

emerald eye’s, narrowed tranquil
gazing beyond heaven’s promised land; a

weightless feather, floating fog
mirrored self, drifting serenely

under trees and wealth of falling leaves
golden summer rays [where] music sings a birds praise

battling to stay in this contented nirvana; fighting
the threads that are binding; pulled
back to the prison within
