Stuck in neutral

1/31

The question raised, to foray forth
in my Ford Edsel of course
but the diesel spill upon the ridge
where was the grip
as you slide, and pump the  brake
slow motion at the wheels of fate
 headlights flashing main to dip
the way to start a month long trip?

#1
palm tree

how your long arms sway
in the cooling breeze
dancing me away
with your winsome tease!
would that i could be
half as elegant
as a sweet palm tree
with a charming slant.

#2
bird

only a john-tu-whit, in May,
making a boisterous foray,
bent in his beaking-trap a worm
fighting for life with every squirm.

smoothing the grass, a hungry cat
yielding no wayward caveat;
artless pro-feline etiquette,
after the bird, like lightning jet.

cleaving the airwaves, worméd bird;
only cat’s meowing palely heard.

Blossom (haiku) 5-7-5

2/31

Springs, pink scrubbed faces
pastels are chalked, like a blush
natures kiss so soft

the wind

you are the voice of many waters
and of birds
of willow trees and folded sheep and
grazing herds
wish i could sing your charming songs, too
soon the tears
my water music suite redacts with
liquid fears
carry my voice along tonight
and let me sing your chanson bright

Wit at the drop of a craic (Oscar Wilde)

3/31

The velvet quote
that gave us hope
eloquence to hold
a lifeguard swimming through the cold

Plant a seed in barren soil
orchid's shoot with words the foil
seedlings germinating. the reply
the higher plane, signed off by Wilde

weeping willow

i heard the mournful weeping willow
from where i stood behind the hollow,
his melody chagrin imparting;
i knew the sorrows he was charting.
when i was foolish like the willow,
my dreams resided by my pillow;
but when i hurried to the sunshine,
my drinking glass had bitter-vine wine.

Staring into the flames

5/31

Gathering, to collect the kindling
and make its bed.
Accelerant anoints.
A cough, someone points
the extended match,
friends that have no inkling
the slim redhead, stroked, ignition came.
Who's fingers will be burned
Finger's of flame,
licking like a lions tongue,
a mange of hunger
teeth that saw

sheep

your flaxen cover
keeps the cold
from feasting on your skin
but at the altar
no one knows
the pain you bear within
a sumptuous feast on
tables bare
for temporal relief
a sacrifice for
every soul
you save from death’s dark grief

Vintage wine

6/31

Stained red, the feet that tread the grape
Cellars where the casks are laid
Times mellow hand, and Cooper's oak
Refine what's raw, under its cloak
Provenance. signature to that estate
Nose, to sniff a fine bouquet
Lay my casket when I croak
Eulogy say, "he was a vintage bloke"

a rhymed, mirrored octet
summer

when
summer
entertains
with her bounteous
golden harvesttime
savour i the colours
of her fruited stem and vine.
resplendent flow’rs in verdant bloom
forth leaping from her post-spring womb.
shall my darling wholly mine
deck the gentle hollow
where i make my rhyme.
every precious
thrill remains
of her
ken.

Barbed wire romance

7/31

Her points, a fence strung on belligerence
prize be mine if I insist
To hold romance at arms length
 stretch of my emotions mixed
Red venom lips, rebuff each compliment
a spiral twist, a barb that rips
In tatters, with my being rent
with patched pride, I will persist

a rhymed, mirrored octet
rain

drip
after
drop comes night’s
dominant rain,
pan music framing
the zinc cap of my roof.
severely inundated,
my canopy a boat afloat
alone at sea, lost and remote.
had i anticipated
a manner so aloof
would find me blaming
night for my pain,
i’d false lights
sooner
flip.
