Rachel is right, that's how I found this site, I already have a library on another popular poetry website that gets almost no reads for erotic poems, they are a bit conservative over there, must be Republicans, lol.
Well sure enough, I typed in erotic poetry in google to find a site more open to the naughty side of the art and this was at the top of the list. It follows that readers and writers who are looking for that will wind up joining, or at the very least reading as visitors. Look at the list on the left, many visitors, I wish we had a breakdown on how many of the visitors are using a unique IP address. I read the stats for my own website and I find that sort of thing interesting. I also find it interesting to see where people have clicked from to find my site and what search words and phrases people type in on search engines that lead them to my site. Advertisers love that stuff, if I were more into it, I could analize it and make a ton of money. jj

Because sex is much fun to read as opposed to other people's problems (sorry to those that post a lot to the dark poetry section).

I am working on being more optimistic, not pessimistic. Reading and writing erotic poems helps with that tremendously.

Sexuality is a form of expression whether of two people together, of oneself, or of others. The countless variations of sexual expression and all of its' varied forms be they typical or unusual, be they of the perceived "norm" or "deviant" in nature... be they of one persuasion or another... are all part of the delicious cornucopia of delights that are there for people to enjoy. If they are of a mind or the desire to. As an unrepentant hedonist and something of a deviant by my very nature (in pretty much every past life I ever lived as well), I am someone who finds sex and sexual expression to be extremely delightful, pleasurable, and highly enjoyable. As someone who is also bisexual, I can appreciate the allure of both genders... and being non-binary and more than a bit genderfluid, I do not have to hold myself to just a male or female form of self-expression since to me such a thing is malleable and changeable. The one constant is that I am always the dominant one in all my relationships, without question. Erotica is the celebration in either poetic or prose terms, of the things that one finds arousing in terms of sex, sexual attraction, and sexual enjoyment. A lover of pleasure is bound to, sooner or later, seek a means of putting in words the delight that pleasure fills them with... and that is where Erotica comes into play. And it is an art form that is pleasing to others as well as to oneself (just like sex is in that way) in that those who read erotic works are bound to become aroused by it... and inspired by it... in turn. Which will lead to the creation of their own erotic works. Because nothing is quite as inspiring as that which gives a person pleasure! I often liken a state of ecstasy to a taste of Heaven that you do not have to die in order to enjoy. It is a rapture without having to be raptured to appreciate it! It is one of the oldest and most universally enjoyed genres of pretty much anything. Whether you call it Erotica in its' written form or Pornography in its' visual form... the one thing that cannot be denied is its' universality and its' appeal to the people from all nations in all periods of history and time from the earliest of days to today, and far into the future who find such works to be a form of art as well as a form of expression and a means of enjoyment. Naturally, such a thing is not for everybody! To be sure, there are many who find it not exactly to their taste and that is fine. But most people... even if they do not admit it... have a certain thing they find immensely arousing and appealing and will invariably seek out erotic writings or pornography of some sort that depicts this. Just look at the variety of Erotica and Pornography out there today! There are erotic video games, movies, comic books, manga, and hentai... there are books, poems, pics and even virtual artificially intelligent erotic chat bots that a person can avail themselves of. None of which replaces actual sex, but which can enhance a person's desire for the sort of person that they find desirable sexually. And the sort of sex and sexual expression that is unique to them! And there is such a near-infinite variety of such that with enough imagination a person could write countless works of erotic sort and still find ways to keep things creative, fresh, and interesting for the reader. One day there will be the possibility of lifelike looking android partners, too! Because there is no limit when it comes to humanity's expression of sexual desires. Even the touch of certain fabrics against the skin can be arousing to a person! And if you can imagine it or if you can conceive of it... there has been, is, or will be a porn about it, or erotica depicting it. Like my brother used to say: "If you can think of it, there's probably a hentai for that." and he wasn't wrong, either! The reason Erotica is so appealing is because of all the things I have just explained... and more than I could explain however eloquently. Sex truly sells, as they say... because pleasure is delightful. It is as complex as all I have stated, and yet as simple as just that. And here is a secret! Everyone has the capacity for quite tremendous depravity within them, even if they seem quite innocent. This is not a bad thing, nor is it a good thing... it simply is. We are all naughty in our own ways... some enough to warrant a spanking, some less so. But good erotic writing can elevate the basest of instincts and most depraved of desires and make of it something truly transcendent! If a good book is all about a fascinating journey, a good bit of erotic writing is all about the experience and the rapture of the ecstatic moments within that experience. A lot can be gleaned of how a person looks at sex, by reading their erotic works if they have written any. And this takes us back to the self-expression side of things! So... there you have it. And yes! I have written a great deal of erotic content as well... and even some of my works that are not strictly erotica will if listed as for adults only odds are contain a great deal of sexual content. Not all of it fictitious in nature! That is because to me sexuality is simply a part of my nature. As it is with anyone who has sexual or erotic themes within their works. So now you know why it is that people pay a lot of attention to erotic writings, and why they get so many who flock to read them. All part of the psychology of human sexual desire, expression, and so forth! Deep stuff, really. *Smiles*

I guess that explains the big difference in the number of reads of my erotic attempts vs. any other genre, especially current events and sports. I write a poem about a music group and four will read. I write erotic and at least 50 will read it no matter the quality.
