But, since I'm here.  And since I'm passionate about beer and tits and writing, and two are off the table...
Some writers in here are impossible to duplicate(yet). Or to replace, yet.  Notice how the free form writers have something unique to their craft?  Because they aren't corralled by meter and rhyme and structure.  They're literally purely writers for the sake of writing.  And not poets looking for the holy grail within their ability to write a poem.
I already mentioned to someone how those particular generated poems were although technically good, they were cold. Zero emotion. Zero bruises and devoid of all the wonderful human errors that make us so beautifully flawed.  I noticed right away that something was off about those writes.  They were a bunch of "blank words", if you try to absorb them.
Hopefully someone gets my meaning.
Same as the poetic replies/tribute replies.  You can change the name of the recipient and interchange every reply to anyone.  Zero personal touches. They are literally copies. And now I know why.
There is a zillion dollar business in the sex toy industry.  And those things can rock anyone's world. Yet people still hook up with actual people.  Why is that?  Because some aspects cannot be duplicated by nonhuman things.  So far same as writing.
Writing is sometimes mental fucking. Mental love making.  They're mental connections that are distinctly and obviously below "perfect".  Because our hearts and guts and stuff get in the words too.  Machines aren't there yet.  They can get us off with a well structured poem. But, they can't create the feelings yet.
I applaud the real poets in here who try their best and actually give a shit.  And hopefully I'm not being duped by AI ,when I reply with sincerity to their effort. There are some really good poets in here.  And some really good less than poetic writers.
I don't know how we can control the inevitable.  We probably can't. But, some factors cannot be duplicated or replaced yet.  We have to look for the subtleties.

It was those poetic replies, for me. After reading a few scattered across several different poets' work, I started to scratch my head a little. It was the same thing regurgitated. No feeling, just a long comment that was essentially a "retelling" of the poem with flowery words tossed in. I didn't even know about chat bots and I definitely didn't know that AI was invading the poetry world.

I am strongly against the use of AI in the humanities. Creating art, no matter the medium, is done so from a deep well of human emotion. Many artists spend many years and many hours honing their craft. Now, someone can pump and dump prompts into the AI and take what is created and call themselves artists.
The really real problem I have is with how many artists have been ripped off due to the use of AI.

It doesn't belong in this community.

I think we can all agree that the vast majority of us are genuine. So let’s not get suspicious of one another. Everyone here is unique in their writing and I assure you that the rest of us have no need to use AI to enhance our writing. We are all beautiful in our own way. We all have a gift so we need to treasure that.

We can all have our opinions on AI and its merits and attacks on humanity. Some people are fine with it, some people do not like it at all, and some are indifferent.

The problem is: how do we know if something is actually generated by AI? We can’t use an AI detector. We can each rely on our own reading ability. But policing for the whole site? I don’t think it’s possible.

Edited to add: at the present moment.

I don't think we can. Like Luna said, she guessed wrong between an AI-generated and human-written poem. I can intuitively sense things; however, I wouldn't want that as a standard to discredit someone.

I agree with everything said. Now who will be the accuser and make a judgment call? What if the accuser is wrong, what then. I am of the opinion that vast majority write their own words. I think someone needs to unlock MrBlack. There are more things to get upset about on DUP.

I meant that we can rely on our own reading ability to make our own judgement. Which will then lead to us interacting with the poem/comment or not interacting.

Lep, my dude.

Look at the pattern.

Don’t engage

We have clearly determined that a majority, not all, don’t want AI to compete.

We have clearly determined that posting material you didn’t write yourself is against policy.

We have determined there is no way to police this.

Therefore, we need to reward obvious human behavior by ignoring possible bots.

We need to consider adding codicils to our poetry ‘AI reviews are not welcome’

We need to demand proper citation for anyone who uses this and ask for self moderation. The same way we do for multiple profiles. Tags on both poetry and review that cite the source “This post, poem, review was generated using … name of tech here.”

We need to demand self reporting in contests.

Contests hosts need to clearly state that no AI is allowed.

It’s not perfect. People suck, so some folks will be dicks and get away with it.

People get away with shit now. I know a chick in here with four or five profiles, unlabeled, who has nominated her human self for shit. Sad.

But most people don’t try, and most people comply with the rules. I think we need to bank on that

It’s not a perfect system but the discussion did bring forth a consensus and that’s where we wanted to get.

Anyone have anything new to add for the good of the group?

(Folks getting away with shit? They are sad people and we should pity them. If your goal in life is to get away with something, I personally, think you have a sad little life and I hope you fill your joy hole with… well. I’ll just let you imagine with what.)

lepperochan said:'The potential of ChatGPT's capability to perfectly mimic human beings has also been acknowledged by lawmakers. In January, a law was passed stating that it's illegal to discriminate against any individual using ChatGPT, especially if they are using it for poetry, writing a book or story. This law came after many websites had been fined for banning users for relying on AI language models for their writing."

I web searched that  paragraph because I was interested in reading the legislation. didn't find it right off but was offered a plethora of interesting newspaper articles which covered poetry and the AI

wouldn't mind a link to the legislation if there's one handy

Yeah, that’s the issue, we are all still getting fooled.

I can’t compete with a robot.

Nobody can.

If we could easily discern the difference it wouldn’t have taken the whole site to figure it out.

I gotta say, this whole AI thing so reminds me of chess, when the computers eventually got so powerful, they started beating the Grandmasters at their own game. This is no game, however.
