Poetry Contest

writing based on published poetic quotes
Welcome to this contest.

Please take one of the following quotes from published poetry, and form a poem around the ideas or thoughts that it brings forth.

If possible, I would prefer newly composed poems, please.

“I think of lovers as trees, growing to and from one another, searching for the same light.” — The Unbearable Weight of Staying by Warsan Shire

“Each morning I stitch a scowl
over my smile. Let my eyes sass
every person standing between me
& the bus stop. — Stank by Fatimah Asghar

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.” — The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

“Take every single person who lessened your shine and bury their memory,
without mercy under glow of everything that makes you who you are.” — You Are Hope In A Human Being by Nikita Gill

“Talent is what they say
 you have after the novel
is published and favourably
 reviewed. Beforehand what
 you have is a tedious
delusion, a hobby like knitting.” — For the young who want to by Marge Piercy

“ They have no idea what it’s like
to lose home at the risk of
 never finding home again
.” — Immigrant by Rupi Kaur

Private Universe

what I love about you
is the ship's adventure
which goes to the pole.

what I love about you
is the audacity to participate
of the great discoveries.

what I love about you
are the faraway things.
I love the impossible.

I enter your eyes
like in a grove
full of sun...
and sweaty, hungry, furious
I have the passion
of a hunter
for wanting your flesh.

what I love about you
is the impossible
with no despair...

what I love about you
it's an autumn saturday
and the stolen kiss
of my distraction.

the change you make
In my monotonous tone
with colors of joy.

what I love about you
it's a bigger gem
than any gold mine
on any map
of the desert I inhabit.

I love about you
is rhyme and verse
that bind your arms
to my universe.

I love about you
the silent moment
when I stop breathing
waiting for your mouth.

Despite Your Rain

Never will I fade in the shadow of your abyss
Your condemnation, badly amiss
I will always shimmer through your rain

All that I am and will ever be
Not for you to diminish so blatantly
Your ignorance magnifies my ability to shine

The memory of you shall be interred
Your imagined power, mistakenly inferred
My illuminated soul will always radiate

Loving You to Infinity

We sleep under the same stars every night
And I crave you like the morning light
That seeps through the tree’s branches.
Your energy from your soul matches
Mine so perfectly that we might have been
Lovers in the previous life. When your skin
Touches mine it feels like I am finally home
Amid the stars and roots that have grown
Beneath my feet all this time. I can feel
Your love in your fingertips as you steal
That breath with your touch. I love you
Many times even as it faded away to blue.

Grandma

Fly
You who lies but tries to stand

You poor bastard
You smoke for looks

Fly
With crooked legs
Soulfighters bite rocks
And gather memories in their pockets

You sang your songs with closed eyes
You never washed away the sun
And you scared me
When you held your breath
You were a summer tale
You were aged fingers on an accordion
You were jewelry of aged steel
And you drank too much
