Tribute To Edward Van Halen

poet Anonymous

Poetry Contest

To the man, guitarist, and his band.
King Edward

reverb echos
in my memories
a brown sound
created by you
mad doctor to
a frankenstein
in your image
the perfect axe

beautiful songs
that tone
speaking to
multiple generations
writing with
the diamond one
the red rocker
and a man extreme

all the hits
brilliant albums
you were humble
King Edward
always inventing
creating anew
we listened
King Edward

more than myth
stands music
guitar god
just a term
evolution in
your playing
more than sizzle
you brought chops

family man
father to a son
beyond the name
loving brother
rest easy
forget the pain
forever loved
embrace peace

all the hits
brilliant albums
you were humble
King Edward
always inventing
creating anew
we listened
King Edward

One entry per author. My poem is not in the running.. Pay homage to the man and his music..

A Guitar God and His Shredding

I’m sad today to hear that Eddie’s gone,
All I can do is celebrate his life and times,
Listening to old albums remembering,
The technical virtuosity that was just divine.

It was like catching lightning in a bottle,
Van Halen influenced many through the years,
And now I sit here visiting all those songs,
Like many of his fans, we’re all in fucking tears.

It’s like they say - rock legends never die,
Now I’m blasting music through my headphones,
Listening to a guitar god and his shredding,
As the music rocks and rattles me to the bones.

RIP Eddie 1955-2020

If Valerie Bertinelli Were To Stay Clean

What
has been
going through
all of our minds
is if Valerie
Bertinelli were to
stay clean and sober and keep
Eddie Van Halen on the straight
and narrow, he would still be alive
to drive David Lee Roth crazy for good.

Did You Hear the Wolf, Cry?

(written for the Eddie Van Halen comp)

I did
and it cut my heart,
his sorrow—
a father, gone
a son, grieving.

You were his garden gate
to where flowers still bloomed
behind cigarette smoke.

Do you think the Wolf saw the sky
today
and how it became just a little bit
bigger?

It happens every time
someone so loved
goes away, and
God must make space for them.

Ah, waves still churn the sands,
clouds still look breathlessly
beautiful
before a storm—
it all goes on without each one of us.

He holds your guitar, now
The Wolf
and with it, may he slay
the murderous spines
of pop-vomit mavens, who
pass charades as music
to the ears of the deaf.

(I believe I hear you
finger-tapping
in halls where the rest of The Greats
have gone.)

There is comfort where the spirit
meets flesh,
and you are not so far away,
after all.

Salute, Eddie….

Van Halen

with apologies to Edgar Alan Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary
Wearing my ear buds
Tired and weary
While nodding, nearly napping
There came a tapping
A tap, tap, tapping on his fret
The tune, I didn't know, but it was a good bet
That Eddie was on the stage
A God, like Hendricks, or Clapton, or Page
The crowd erupted in applause
It was that tap, tap, tapping that was the cause
A chant rose up from the floor
They yelled, "Eddie, forevermore"
"Eddie, forevermore"

Somewhere on a stage in the clouds
There's a guitar shredding clear and loud
Then a tap, tap, tapping upon the frets
Even up there, it's as good as it gets
In unison the angels praises outpour
"Eddie, forevermore"
"Eddie, forevermore"

The rift`s eternal gift

In the smoky mist of time, the echo of the G string wine
standing in the spotlight be, always and forever shine.

Strutting brazen like a peacock,  ease the gift the humming bee
centre stage your impromptu act.
Honey payment, the crowds that scream
the epitaph of always evergreen.
Chanting, clapping, stamping,  mimic every lyric
wear the Tee-shirt, a million Facebook hits
hang platinum and golden discs.

The stinging void, his sum in shadows as it dips
not the everyday, the fag-butt hanging from the lips
fighting each day. Being valiant ,the last track your philosophy
kept alive Van Halen, as I sing the eternal rift.
Now flying on the wings of entropy
the strings still vibrating on his finger tips.

A last review; I hear the angels clap and cheer?
So welcoming the devil's leer?
Another gig, but just not here

Thanks, for all the submissions. Madame, you win. Because your entry was so much more than music. It was of a loss of a father. Wolfgang Van Halen, has to be hit the hardest.. much respect to you. all entries were great. Congrats, Madame.
