Ahavati said:I ran across the above image while doing some research this morning. This is 1961, and Red Foxx and Eartha Kitt attended a rally in New York for the Freedom Fighters in Birmingham, Alabama. Red was asked to give a speech, and when he began quoting from Genesis he broke down with emotion due to the injustice.

Almost 60 years later, there has been change; but, not enough. We still have a long way to go in this fight; however, I hope 60 years from now, when my G'precious is an old man, he will be able to see just how far we've come to the point of asking himself if that old world truly existed at all.

This is a touching image.  I didn't know Redd Foxx did anything but comedy.  Here in Jamaica, I used to watch the TV sitcom, Sanford & Son, not even realising that Redd Foxx was a pseudonym or that  Sanford (his real name) had been an activist and spokesman for the cause.

He actually died of a heart attack on the set while rehearsing for one of his shows on 1999 October 11.

Thank you, Ahavati.  First, we confront the issues by looking them straight in the eye.  That equilibrium between the looking and the seeing -- the moment of acknowledgeable eye contact -- is when change has a chance to begin.

I am grateful to have been given a voice in this forum.  Although my participation may not be as smooth, continuous, or integrative as that of others (due to personal limitations of time on task), I have hoped from the very beginning that I could raise matters integral to the general focus of the discussion and the robustness of the conversation.

What I have learnt is far greater than what I have shared.  Obviously, the benefits are mutual -- as will be any positive change to the madness that has persisted hitherto in our world.

I agree, Cab, and will add that we must look them in the eye with an open mind to see what they truly are. Speaking of eye-contact, did you see the exchange between a peaceful BLM protestor and 'patriot' in Montana a few weeks back? She was the perfect example. She said her father taught her that no matter what, always look someone in the eye so they know you are human.

Don't doubt that you are a valuable voice in this forum, Cab. You taught me quite a bit, and I appreciate your peaceful and respectful presence.

I remember that. The media outlets referred to him as finally being with 'Elizabeth' after 'the big one'. It was very ironic, if you ask me.

And, yes, that's a powerful image I had never seen ( surprisingly enough ). I am sure there are hundreds more in the archives out there.

RIP Jessica.

Jessica did something that all of us who cannot live like ghosts anymore should do.

Suicide by BLM

Just go up to them and tell them the truth.
Say I am black and you have white ancestors who colonized, too.
Say LOVEMATTERS more than dying or even “freedom”

I’m a ghost anyway.
I talk to myself here.

Let’s do it. Death by honesty!

If Jessica’s life didn’t matter, then black lives don’t matter.

Me too …seen her.
Maybe women like that will save us, because they matter.

“White” women named Jessica DON’T.

Judge rules Mary Trump can publicize book about her uncle

So much for suing Mary Trump into silence.

A state judge ruled Monday that President Donald Trump’s niece can talk publicly about the explosive tell-all book she wrote about her uncle, a day before the book’s release date.

Dutchess County Supreme Court Judge Hal B. Greenwald shot down a claim by Trump’s brother, Robert, that an agreement to settle her father’s estate after his death means she’s blocked from talking about her family members — including the president — publicly.

The book, “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” describes Trump as a cruel bully, a consummate cheater and a sociopath, shaped by his emotionally abusive father, Fred Trump Sr.

“If he is afforded a second term, it would be the end of American democracy,” she wrote. “Donald, following the lead of my grandfather and with complicity, silence, and inaction from his siblings, destroyed my father. I can’t let him destroy my country.”

The book was set to be published at the end of July, but publisher Simon & Schuster announced last week it would be released Tuesday.

MAMA - A BLACK LIFE
She Spanned 2 Centuries
1913 February 6 to 2020 July 13

Colleagues, please forgive me for what might appear to be self-indulgence.  I will repent afterward, if you think it is.  My mother went to sleep in the Lord while sleeping in her bed last night.

She was one Black Life that mattered in the most intimate and meaningful way to me.  She never climbed Mt Everest, she never ruled a nation, she never led an army, she never came from the progeny of a so-called "royal family."

But, in spanning a century she became a centenarian and mothered nine children, all professionals, and became grand-, great-grand-, great-great-grand-, and great- great-great-grand, and great-great-great-great-grandmother to her own and many other children.

To me, she mattered in the most eloquent ways.  She has left monuments behind that represent institutions no one should quibble about tearing down or letting stand.

Indulge away. As if 107 years wasn't enough accomplishment in itself. She certainly did an amazing job raising you. Bless you and your family, Cab.

My best to you and your family at this time of great sorrow may you all move  forward with ease,  and peace in your hearts. Listen, for the winds will utter  her name as they sing  their aeolian song

mountains i have climbed

For Mama, on the 105th Anniversary of her Birth

seeing i have seen
hearing i have heard
should i close my eyes this day
speak not a frowning word

hearing i have heard
feeling i have felt
voices now are whispered songs
that all my heartaches melt

feeling i have felt
lessons i have learnt
pain is not my strangest friend
‘tis oft that i've been burnt

lessons i have learnt
secrets i have kept
patience holds my trembling hand
nor wisdom ever slept

secrets i have kept
knowledge i have shared
mountains i have climbed in hope
to dream and fight and dare

knowledge i have shared
children i have weaned
memories i have prized that
untried hearts have never seen

children i have weaned
teardrops i have dried
loved ones i have buried young
the pain of love defied

teardrops i have dried
comforts i have given
storms i've weathered on a path
oft steep and thunder riven

comforts i have given
praise i have received
but all glory be to God
in whom i have believed…

…for seeing i have seen
and hearing i have heard
and in my heart i have believed
Christ is the Living Word.
