Panthers Cut Ties with CPI Security After CEO Kenneth Gill's Racist Remarks
The Carolina Panthers have severed their relationship with CPI Security after the contents of an email from the organization's CEO, Kenneth Gill, to Queen City Unity Executive Director Jorge Millares were revealed to the public, per Alaina Getzenberg and Joe Marusak of the Charlotte Observer.
"Last Saturday, we said we are committed to doing our part and we mean it. CPI has been a long-term partner but, upon reflection, we feel that it is right to end our relationship. We have informed Mr. Gill of our decision tonight," the Panthers tweeted.
Per Getzenberg, Gill's remarks were in response to a message Millares sent to an email list "calling for action in response to killings of black people such as George Floyd by Minneapolis police."
"Please spend your time in a more productive way," Gill wrote back. "I challenge your statistics. A better use of time would be to focus on the black-on-black crime and senseless killing of our young men by other young men."

“This is just an incredibly poignant time for the court to announce this ruling,” Cassandra Stubbs, the director of the ACLU’s Capital Punishment Project, tells TIME. “The death penalty, as we all know, is affected by racial bias… [This ruling] ensures we will be able to continue our journey as North Carolinians to really confront the legacy of race in capital trials.”
When he arrived for his trial in 2010, Ramseur’s lawyers were alarmed to find the seats directly behind him in the courtroom, where a defendant’s family usually sit, had been blocked off with yellow crime scene tape. While the sheriff said the tape was for Ramseur’s safety, his lawyers argue it made him look dangerous before the jury. According to Ramseur’s brief, the court denied a motion to move the tape, saying “I’ll let the sheriffs handle the security. That’s the way they do it here, and that’s the way it will be done.”

On a similar note, I just finished "13th" on Netflix. That was rough. I don't do well watching stuff of that nature. It tears me up emotionally. I do recommend watching it; very eye opening.
