Poetry Contest Description
Time Travel
The Loop
Motion
Through
Space, time
Continuum
Past fallacies
And believers
Future fantasies
Of dream dreamers
The power to grasp
The clock's hands
In the hands of man
Distortion and
Destruction
The end
Huummmmm Buuzzzzz Whiirrrrr
Begin again
Motion
Through
Time, space
Continuum
Come walk with me and let us be
Travelers of time.
Through present, future and the past.
Make it rhyme and make it last.
I now bid you all safe travel
As you pass
Into the wormhole.

Time Traveller
You travel both the future and the past,
time is just another road you drive.
Although I’ve seen your beauty, unsurpassed,
I’m trapped here, in my present, so deprived!
The times that I have gazed upon your face-
mere moments in your life, but not for me!
…long seasons! But my love is not displaced,
though I have been denied time travel’s key!
This visit, won’t you stay with me awhile?
My time with you is prized above all else!
I’ve waited so long just to see you smile,
and when you leave, my hopes and dreams will melt!
My love for you will span all history;
for, in your eyes, I glimpse eternity!
time is just another road you drive.
Although I’ve seen your beauty, unsurpassed,
I’m trapped here, in my present, so deprived!
The times that I have gazed upon your face-

Past
Walking backwards
Trying to find my way to the past
Running into mirrors
But they're just glass.
Trying to find my way to the past
Running into mirrors
But they're just glass.

Walking with Jonathan Osterman
Every night
I hold tomorrow in my arms
cradling the infant dream
in a blanket of memory
I shut my eyes
and today
falls away...
It’s 1941
Christmas time
The old snowy classics on the radio
are new
So is the news
of planes and fire
over Hawaii
this changes everything
It’s 1984
my mother swears off
every vice
on her own advice
I’m growing inside her
and she will not poison me further
It’s 2020
November
Thank God
Thank God
THAT’S finally over,
moving on...
It’s 1963
November
Smiles turn to horror
on the streets of Dallas
Everything changes
A blue hand takes mine
Emotionless
Cold with nuclear fusion
“So much more to see,”
he says
“and nothing else to do
but watch...”
It’s 2003
My first time
is such a mess
I confess
I’ve no clue
as she rides my half-interest
What’s wrong with me?
What did I...?
It’s 2023
She’s graduating today
Through all the
smiles and cries
there lies
in her hand
everything she’s worked for
I close my eyes
and thank the skies
for this day
For her
This changes everything...
It’s 1996
Just me and Dad now
leaving for Texas
Where cowboys and Indians live,
the movies say
I confess
I’ve no clue
What am I going to do?
How will I...?
It’s 2001
I was just looking at
those crumbling towers
two weeks ago
a few miles away
I’m in Texas
clutching hands with friends
I don’t think I can live without
Everything changes...
“We’re all just watching,”
the blue man says
“But perhaps,
you will learn something
and create something...”
It’s 2005
She’s absolutely beautiful
Bigger, heavier
than I thought she’d be
This changes everything
And everything changes...
The blue man stands
on Martian sands
and smiles
I shut my eyes
and today
falls away...
I hold tomorrow in my arms
cradling the infant dream
in a blanket of memory
I shut my eyes
and today

Mama's Skirt
There you are; in your own little world…
Simple & small, yet satisfactory
Draped in happiness
Pain and worry isn’t taught in your vocabulary,
To be oblivious, is delicious
Shameless blameless innocence
Wake up in the morning, sinless
No tattoos or costume,
Just you….
Take a peek from behind the curtain,
To see the boogeyman creep in the day,
And two-legged snakes,
Kleenex crocodiles,
Jewel encrusted spiders,
Dragons in Chinchilla, diamonds, silk & minks
Cheshire vampires & caviar zombies
Angels cry, demons play
Witches are a myth….so they say
Knights twerking in bikinis,
Barbies in jockstraps,
Daddies squirting Botox,
Mommies popping Viagra,
Babies bumping Pediasure, saying,’’ I beez in a trap’’
And so, the horror show
Continues to roll, with no
Mercy to slow,
And this is the future that we have been endowed but for now….
It is time for the credits to scroll,
As we start to depart,
& just to be frankly curt
I think I’d rather linger here behind Mama’s skirt.

Duchess of your heart
Lace gloves hiding my hands
My neck hugged by emeralds and diamonds
Embedded in gold, which I'm adorned
Stuning dress in burgundy color,
Decolletage far from small
Pure silk, custom sewn for this ball
What do you look at, my sir?
Are the jewels, what you observe?
Or the color of my eyes you would mention?
Did shine of gold catch your attention?
Or my pale skin, you would rather caress?
Why do you embarrass?
Maybe because of my tight corset?
Or is my smile just too direct?
The golden ring on my finger
With my family coat of arms engraved
Are you with him enchanted?
Or you enjoy holding and kissing my gentle hand?
Beside the beauty, are you thievish and smart,
Or is it because
I'm the Duchess
Of your noble heart?
Please,
Tell me in French...

UNCONDITIONAL
i.
I began to fall in love with you
Before we met
When I was a student at Cal Berkeley
At a co-op party
A woman sang Van Morrison
"Tupelo Honey"
The way she was singing
Time didn't exist
It reminded me of you
ii.
I began to fall in love with you
Before we met
Many years ago
My parents had a portrait
Painted in watercolor
The way their fierce proud love
Shone through
Time didn't exist
It reminded me of you

At The Library
He was the first to enter the library that day.
Took a few steps in.
Stopped.
Looked around.
Seeing is believing...
What you see is up to you...
He saw the librarian.
- Three shades of pale -
Felt at home.
Approached her.
- Doing research on the future...
Just in case we get there...
- Time machines are down...
- Book research...
The future and the librarian
kept their distance.
- Any suggestions?
- Come back later...
- I'd rather wait...
He sat at a desk.
Pulled a book out of his coat.
Placed it on desk
as did with elbows.
Rested head in palms.
Closed eyes.
Sighed.
Reading shit
makes you shit-wise...
Took a few steps in.
Stopped.
Looked around.

S.A.A.T.
So in the hourglass, I can foresee my reflection,
As the sand slips by without goodbye or regret,
And though I cannot forget the pain and sorrow,
The promise of tomorrow smiles with a sunset.
So my mind travels back to those days, to that daze,
A phase where the hurt razed me and left me destroyed,
All of me was broken, all the hurt went unspoken,
The gory story of my purgatory drowned me in a void.
Still my memory relives and forgives but never forgets,
All the hurt and anguish as I languished in the dark,
Ah dear reverie, why is it that you find it necessary?
To remember tempers and embers dying in a spark.
Silently the recollection takes me to a page forgotten,
As if my subconscious is awakened and enlightened,
As depths of an old emotion and age downtrodden,
Tell a different tale when I was young and frightened.
Still in the hourglass with hindsight I come to understand,
All memories are time machines that never let us forget,
All the good and bad, all the happy and sad moments,
To help me understand myself more without any regret.

If We Went Back In Time
Back through time and to the time when we first
Met. We were starving, dying of hunger and thirst.
Little did I know we would be satisfying that craving.
Looking in the mirror, we were surviving and braving
The storm completely together. We could never be
Knocked over like a sandcastle. When you looked me
In the eye and you told me without any words spoken
Out loud between us that we would never be broken
Or fractured like the early morning sky, that is when
I knew we would have a future. Nine times out of ten
We may fight, but fighting and making up is far better
Than us stewing in silence. Your love is like a sweater
That keeps me warm in those cold months of winter as
We are trekking through the snow and find our topaz
City. If only we could be the keepers of memories and
time. Everything flashes before my eyes where I stand.
