Treasure Found

Was let down
For far too long
Insecurities built up
Felt like
I had
No voice
Like no one saw me
Maybe they did
That I had become
So blind
That I lost myself
But I needed
A change
I needed to be me
So I cast a spell
And set myself free
From that prison
To myself be true
I couldn't have
Done it
Without you
For the fire
Arouse higher
Burning the old me
Becoming myself
Never again
To be buried
In ash
I may still be
Dusting myself off
But at least I can say
I'm truly happy
And I am right
Where I am going
To stay

Women and Freedom

I seek not to disparage
Nor strive to be like you
Difference, not inequality
I am woman, authentic, true

Not at liberty to provide
Emancipation, up to me
Asking of you the privilege
Implies I am unfree

Approval is unnecessary
Not a question of causality
Needing not your permission
To establish equality

Uninspired to be you
My own self on a stage
For he who wishes to dominate
I shall refuse to engage

Inspired by Simone De Beauvoir – The Second Sex

A Road of Metaphors

My poetry has been a disguise of phantoms and recollections,
Fused fantasies with realities and the differences I can’t tell,
They’ve been obscure secrets escaped through innuendos,
Implicitly in coded language loaded with ghostly bombshells.

And some never went off…

It’s been a road of metaphors filled with similes and analogies,
Allusions to the illusions of the near madness that I bore,
Allegories of the freed confined mind resigned to stay silent,
Yet a little bit of it bled through the wounds and on to the floor.

They’ve been the expressions of lonely glumly feelings,
Endless streams of daydreams of my subconscious thought,
Reveries of love and anger ranging from passion to languor,
To euphoric epiphanies and revelations I used to plot.

It’s the journal to my life’s story without the fame or glory,
The reflection and hindsight to the past I sometimes forget,
Comical chronicles of the years, some of laughter, some of tears,
And of the paths I overlooked and chose, and people whom I met.

I go back and read about:
Fifteen year old me and how silly I used to be,
Twenty year old me and how naïve I was back then,
Thirty year old me and how lost and scared I was,
Present old me and how I’m still trying to reach my Zen.

And I wonder about older me and if I’ll be a little wiser,
Maybe senile, maybe shrewd, perhaps ruthless and yet calm,
Writing better than old times dropping nuclear power rhymes,
Maybe then my message will come across louder than any bomb.

Nights
==================

Once I thought I had
honor, and lost it the day
I looked in your eyes
and my soul was by time wrecked
love is blind to many clues

Twice, i married another, one
that was not you, and hurt them
upon your return

years after i hurt
my legal wife and you, I
wonder at absence
of the one that always drags
me back into your orbit

Hi everyone--just a note to stay tuned, here; this comp is next in line to go up for public vote, but we're full right now with all 5 available voting spots already taken with other comps having their winners decided by the DUP community.

If you haven't already, please go vote in the others, so this comp can head over too, and get finalized.  Thanks!

Congratulations to Preston. I'm impressed. I feel like my photo now however, for not finishing anywhere. A special mention also to the two runners up. We mustn't forget them.
