Scared Little Secret
Lightning cracked !!! And a limb fell.
In my young mind monsters hands waited to grab me from the dark....
And grab ...
And grab they would....
Not the grotesque hands of my imagination....
to that later...now
And so i crawled into him. Safe.
So afraid of the storm..
The thunder pounded the thump thump
of my heart.....
"You tremble babygirl...."
he said and took me into what he called "safe harbor.." embrace...
the strong arms of a man
........

Sam And The Vixen: A Biblical Jump Rope Rhyme
(Best if sung to the tune of "Lady With The Alligator Purse" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B840Xxf4Hl8 )
Here’s a little story
For when you’re jumping rope;
within the Sorek Valley,
Sampson lost all hope.
It started out that Sammy,
was an Israeli Judge;
despite his moral compass,
his Godly faith, won’t budge.
He found himself a woman,
or maybe two or three,
but it was Delilah,
who brought him to his knees.
(D-E-L-I-L-A-H ! )
The evil men of Gaza
wanted Sammy dead;
they gave Delilah money
to coax him to her bed.
She snatched up all the silver,
said “Sam, won’t you tell me
what it is that makes you
as strong as you can be?”
Sam thought Dee was joking,
and told her silly lies,
but Dee still wanted Sammy,
right between her thighs.
(D-E-L-I-L-A-H ! )
Many nights of love, they,
had on her feathered-bench,
‘til Delilah finally became
a nagging little wench.
She pumped for information
like she pumped his…….socks!
Dee wore down Sam’s resolve
until he finally talked.
Sam blurted “Okay, alright!
I’ll tell you why I’m strong;
It’s because my hair is
so very, very long.”
(D-E-L-I-L-A-H ! )
Dee loved Sam again,
until he fell asleep
then she cut his hair off
and sheared him like a sheep.
In the morning when he woke up,
Sam cried “Oh, what’s wrong?!
Dee gave me a haircut,
and now my strength is gone!”
The evil men from Gaza
whooped with joyous shouts;
they imprisoned Sammy
and poked his eyeballs out.
(D-E-L-I-L-A-H ! )
Sam wallowed in misfortune,
and saw his hope was gone
he prayed for God’s forgiveness
to help him right his wrongs.
God heard Sammy’s prayers
and gave him one more chance,
then Sammy got his strength back
at the Philistine’s dinner-dance.
He pushed upon the pillars
that held Delilah’s house
and all the party-goers
crashed down with screams and shouts.
(D-E-L-I-L-A-H ! )
Sooooo…… down came Delilah,
and down came all the men,
and down came all the ladies
on Sammy’s prison pen.
It made a pile of rubble,
on that fateful day
and because of all trouble,
no one got away,
and the moral of Sam’s story,
since everyone was dead:
it really doesn’t pay to
think with the wrong head!

KITCHEN BLUES
Sunday was chicken and collard greens with rice.
Yesterday was fried ham and chit'lins served twice.
But today, yes sweet Lord, it's now in your hands,
Ain't nothin' shakin' since, 'cept the baby grand.
I'm tipsy when bread dough rises, like my love.
Oh dear God, I can't help myself, like my love.
On the stove, butter melts on hot slabs of bread.
I'm tipsy when the yeast goes straight to my head.
Can't hear you, you know what I'm talkin' about.
Soon's the weather breaks tonight she's goin' out.
She'll be dressed for sin, and won't be stayin' in.
She's smellin' BBQ from the chicken shack
Near the house of ill repute across the track.
But this sinner don't care what the hell she wears,
Or doesn't cook for dinner, and I'm beggin'
As darkness swallows her and laughs at my tears.

DEATH OF A DOVE
The boy jogs
ahead of his father, hidden
in the mist of a river bank,
hunched against the chill
of an early morning
to hunt doves.
A field gone quiet
as the birds freeze
among the scrub,
startled into flight,
a blast shatters the silence,
finding its prey
plummeting
in its death spiral
to the ground.
The boy waits
till it falls from the sky
and lays warm in his hands.
By the dove's death
giving the power
to spare a life, or take it.
The bird
weighs little more than
the air itself,
the faint heartbeat;
he does not look away
twisting its neck with
a soft pop, the spasm,
air forced from the lungs.
He rests,
quivering in the grass
from his first taste.

This is a true story from a friend of mine years ago who told me about every time his dad went hunting, he'd take his son along.

Baby, I Couldn't Sleep
I wanted to
whisper these words
in your ears
on the valentine
morning
instead
I stayed
awake the
whole night
watching
you
I watched
how the sun rays
peaked from the
half opened window curtains
and shined
on your hair
how the light slowly
chased the shadow
your body to toes
your skin is pale
paler than it used to be
its calm
and silent
with the
the aroma of
incense sticks
I’m still watching you
your curves on the bed
you haven’t moved
in a long time
I’m still watching you
sitting here
foot on the
edge of the bed
tapping the knife
on the table
to the drips
from your
hand
without any
thoughts
just
emptiness
baby
I just
couldn’t
sleep

Blooding
Useless fucking dicks! my ex-navy cousin,
My two lame-ass brothers, both older by years,
Me, seventeen, but, the rifle was my own.
How it happened, how we got involved,
Me in a parking lot, holding my gun,
Even today, is a pure mystery to me.
Someone had cardboard boxed the cat,
Bottom filled with blue workshop towels,
Smeared and splatters of burgundy black.
The cat, its red-brown furry self at rest.
Its back legs, in broken unnatural angles,
Torn away in the Buick's drive belts.
I looked around at the manish group again,
Those assholes, spineless sons of bitches,
Studying their feet, kicking stones. Fuck you!
Walking the cat box to the grassy edge,
Thanking God with every cautious step,
I was studying that back, not it's furry face.
Sliding the action open to show its brass,
Side-sighting the .22’s slight scope,
Worthless in my point-blank stance
Safety off, index on the trigger grooves,
Measured breath, in and slowly out. Then!
Turning its most beautiful golden eyes...
Deadly silent, I felt not heard the shot,
Impact spinning the head back around.
Being sure, another round in the head's back.
No breath, it was done. In a loud burst
Those “men,” slapping and shaking me
What a great job, their pride, their envy
Strangely, that’s not how it felt to me.

lost dreams
she dreams of perfumed fields of lavender,
the salty air against her skin and lips
the feel of his lips against hers
brushing away the salt from her skin
sand through her fingers,
cascading
the smooth road
winding ahead,
smelling the heat
rising on black tarmac
windows down, music playing
his voice singing in her ear
sweet smell of pines
drifting on the wind
sand through her fingers,
cascading
driving onto somewhere
with no destination in mind
they'll just stop when they get there
sand through her fingers,
cascading
she looks into his beautiful blue eyes
and wonders how he knows
when they'll arrive
sand through her fingers,
cascading
he smiles and tells her
it is not the place that matters
he takes her hand and kisses her fingers,
"where ever you are, that is home."
his ashes through her fingers,
cascading
