Where I dwell

The middle of England is where I dwell
A beautiful place to live
In the spring the buds appear
The sun the bloom does give

The summer comes and goes too fast
Then autumn time appears
Oh how I love the falling leaves
Falling like my tears

Soon the snow falls at our feet
The frost does bite my fingers
Middle England where I dwell
And Robin Hood once lingered

Famous...

In a country famous for rain
we nosh on fish and chips
but food's not our religion
and diners don't leave tips

In a country famous for rain
we cruise on a different side
road rage is our hobby
the curse of right hand drive

In a country famous for rain
we battle with our bins
while overflowing landfill
reminds us of our sins

In a country famous for rain
umbrellas aren't required
a safety net's installed
for workers who've retired

In a country famous for rain
falling pregnant's a career
so younger Mums abound
weaning babies on warm beer

In a country famous for rain
our weather might turn funny
but when the thunder stops
we British frown because it's sunny

Quo Vadis Philippines?

I am proud of your majestic views and God-given beauty
where the warm breeze from the deep blue ocean
kisses the lush idyllic hillsides and caresses our souls,
as we greet the coming of a new dawn, we are grateful--
with renewed hopes and enthusiasm, who won’t be cheerful?

I am also proud of your beautiful sons and daughters
who bravely fought their anxieties and worst fears;
working hard away from their beloved native homes:
in war-torn and calamity-laden countries
where they can’t freely roam,
and loneliness - a constant companion
thinking of nothing, but their loved ones left behind.
A few got lucky catching God’s graces everyday
while others didn’t even see the light of day,
nor tasted the fruits of their toils:
may it be bitter or may it be sweet…

Is it really worth the sacrifice when families are separated,
either by choice or unfortunate stroke of fate?
Young kids left by either parents, or both:
their total care and well-being, sometimes neglected
could possibly lead to an early and catastrophic ending;
the lucky ones never stop with their lavish spending
as if money grows on trees and manna falls from heaven.
Stop! look, and listen to your inner voice--
Do we really need to outdo each other?

Vanity and ego slowly cripple the moral fibers
of a once sweet and innocent society
Loneliness due to separation from loved ones
sometimes could lead to broken families,
and early demise of someone’s character
Are these the price we need to pay
in lieu of your progress and modern lifestyle?
Quo vadis, Philippines?
My home, my beloved!

Is it worth the prize when your lovely daughters
are selling their souls to the devil to satisfy yours?
Beautiful and modern homes completely furnished,
now replaced their old but cozy nipa huts:
where their parents and siblings watch soap operas
on the big screen, high-definition, colored-TV sets,
and listen to the ear-piercing sound of HiFi stereos,
while dancing and singing to their favorite videoke tunes.

Do we really need to leave your beautiful shores?
A paradise on earth where winter never comes,
and the warmth of your people rivals the setting sun;
Your open seas are teeming with fish of all species,
and your dense forest is filled with fauna and timber
as far as my eyes can see, and my feet can explore...
Over the green hills and on top of your fertile plains,
and across the valleys where our old folks toiled:
abundant harvest and sharing, are they gone?

Philippines--my beloved, my beautiful home
I’m happy and proud of what you had become
despite the moral decay, and other socio-political issues,
not to mention the current political moro-moro:
rampant vote buying by candidates and harassment by their goons -
blatant disregard of the law, which they're supposed to uphold.
Your development is still a work-in-progress,
although still plague with frequent brown-outs;
your total transformation remains to be seen…
You are vibrant and progressive, still welcoming;
Your warm receptions and beautiful smiles,
always keep the weary and starving strangers
filled with gusto and delight!

My foreign friends take a hike,
and go see for yourself what it feels like.

God bestowed you with scenic beauty,
and natural resources to sustain your children
Let no man put you asunder,
and trample upon your tranquility;
Let no one destroy you again
as in the case of Calancan Bay,
for together with the fallen ones
who fought and died in “The Battle of Pulang Lupa,”
we will rise as one in spirit, both body and mind:
the brave, and the proud Filipinos!

(The Battle of Pulang Lupa was an engagement fought on Sept. 13, 1900 between the Filipino and American soldiers in a tiny island of Marinduque during the Philippine-American war, where the Filipinos defeated the Americans. Calancan Bay is the site of the worst mining disaster in Philippine history located in the same island.)

You can think wrong
Question?  How long?

GOD Bless America

Full grown with its nose to the proverbial grind stone
Likened to the dung beetle. Crawling pushing the same shit uphill
Timed out for real…this is the deal. How much more can the 1% steal?
Paper money? It ain’t even real.. For real…YO citizen..
We see you crawling out to the parking lot
Between the stars & stripes?  Tell us?
What else you got?

YO citizen, you, the one heading home
Lucky you…where some children right now
Thought it more fun sleeping in & around the Superdome
And you know some are like them buffalo who used to roam
Families depleted, many deleted. Animosity?
It can become real deep-seeded. Believe it… Steaming hot
Screaming for that progress & whatnot
That true lie type of inter-dependence
Just thought we’d mention this

GOD Bless America

Where famished figures, their futures frequently falling into fatigue
Where financial is always the statement
The one heard. It’s what Kate Smith really meant
From manic to platonic; so masonic
The way the money talks
The message is…The Spoils are for The Hawks

You can think wrong
The question is…for how long?
Bet it’s as much as we’re almost gone

GOD Bless America

Scotland

Everywhere I go
and I've been around
from alleyways in Mexico
to Atlanta's underground
London to Barcelona
I can only make one claim
outside of Scotland
everywhere seems the same

From the Highlands to the Lochs
it's the only place I don't feel lost
it's not the bagpipes
or the scotch
or the castles
haggis or tartan
but some combination of those
and human interaction
grown as hard as the Winter is cold
under wet, grey skies
with Gothic tones

singing drunk's when the pubs close
and the scent of pakora, fish, and chips
clings to the mist and I breathe it in

the rebel nature of the land
and it's clans
can't be put on a postcard
conveyed with a stamp

beauty unrivaled
like the best art created

land of the brave
Scotland forever
YES

but please stay away
or like England
it will become the USA

Indigenous

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be!

The kangaroo comes fighting tough
To keep its Joey happy sun
The trees smell like eucalypt
A koala has a happy treat

The Terra Nulius once known
Is baptised by the Queens Hello
Thay were first to walk the land
And Indigenous thay now stand

Even the punk with his own Mohawk
screams that's my generation Loko
as one big happy family we are
We watch the Emu running far!

Americana Australiana

I come from a land
down under,
we love simple things
beer, bbq's..
footy and the beach,
we love long trips
on a road to nowhere
Sure we may act the
larrikin but..
we always look out for
our mates, through the good
also means the bad
Aussie's come together
when times are tough..

I have been to the land of the free twice,
both times with naive eyes..
it was all Disney, super sized shopping malls.
I always wanted to go back but..America is fucked,
I have met some lovely Yanks so don't worry
this is not a Yank bash.
I blame America for a lot of the world's problems,
sure easy you say blame the Yanks.
Your media the big brother, floods Australian sets,
I don't know if it's just me, but every time
say a shooting or some Yank act of senseless violence,
gets shown on the news, the dumbest most ignorant people are interviewed.
Surely you are not all like this?

Australia the fifty first state
I see kids, gangsta rap gangs
the five one nine crew..
the times are a changing,
something is very wrong,
somewhere along the way
we got it wrong,
we fucked up..
Today it's not about
mates much these days....
