Sailing through Moonlight

Into your arms
the moon's blood pours silently
a silvered heart
caressing waves with its beat

The blessings of a warm wind
bring the scent of an island
the breath of spices and whales,
baby squid chasing plankton
trailing phosphor in their wake

You are constant,
an enemy and friend
yet always indifferent,
eager to love or betray
to smile or to frown
at a moment's notice
upon your whim

And many times I have witnessed
the depths of your rage
the bare savagery of your soul
knowing you do not care
for even the humblest
of all these creatures
here tonight.

Stormbound

I dream of hauling 'Vixen'
for paint on the highest tide
bleaching my guilt until her bones rot
while the growlers break safely
abed on a winter's night

I crave your flurry of kisses
wresting me back to shore
washing salt from my boots
then gently reproaching the fool
blissfully pruning roses in his sleep

But out here I play the drunken bee
bedraggled wings struggling to lumber home
Alone with my fear watching cold stars glitter
across the jagged fury of waves
my heart helpless and small

as her power and glory unfold.

She Bathes In Her Enigma

Water soaked nakedness
She bathes in her enigma
under a wild sky that cries

Her living tragedies
leave scars upon her face
tears forever frozen
on her cheeks of porcelain
head tilted to the sky
she leaves herself behind

She cannot be loved for long
it slips off of her waiting form
into the washed away dreams
that have piled up into mountains
which are too high for her to climb

Her voice left and no one
could hear her soundless cries
they became the storms
that rumble through dark clouds
energies traversed between
the storm and her naked body
as her trembling hands
reached into the waves and calmed

She cannot be held too closely
her breath will struggle to find air
as her mind eradicates all reason
and white light strikes the source

She moves with the
ebb and flow of the water
feeling direction
as the wind brushes her skin
awaiting the warmth of
sunrise gone for so long
cold makes her tremble
wrapped in her arms

So...

you think you know her
but her enormity of moods
proclaims you do not
that you could never know
as she tickles your toes on the beach
where the next dead whale will founder

Without notice
she might gather her skirts
and rush upon you in a rage
piling high the lump in her throat
drowning the fires from some quake below

So could you ever be safe
your hotel balcony
sits on the third floor
but once
she swallowed mountains
and all the world grew fins

Why Does The Moon Hide?

Kayla
stands at my side

We stare out there
we revel in the feel
of softly sprayed
salty-humid-mist
on our faces

Tortuous-thunderous-waves
break in our ears
The warm foot wash
beneath our beached
toes
cleanses gently
and she smiles

Her hand drifts upwards
rests comfortably
in my palm
no words are spoken
no voice is heard
or raised

We communicate

I learn
I hear
all three years
of my daughter's life
revealed

She changes the topic

'big moon dad'
her innocent voice exclaims

Before, she lays it on me

'why does it hide
behind the clouds?
Is it also
scared
of the
sharks

dad'?

This is a past write from some years ago, I will fully understand if you find it unacceptable, I think your comp inspired me to find it and rejuvinate it a little.

To Abra, well the name suits you since your poems have a hint of mist and magic.
"Sailing through the moonlight" Well...who would not wish for that???! I definatly would love to do so.
Such an enchanted write....The stormy one is another face of the sea, there is where your sense of humor shows too, a great virtue! the last one is more a mystery, as Id say its the "Cadrabra" side of you (lol)
Thanks for the three great poems!

A wonderful crystal clear but at the same time deep dark write by your pen...The first three lines are just great. Thanks very much for your entry!

White Beach (Palindromic Form)

White sandy beaches and beautiful coral reefs
Pleasing to everyone's eyes
Playful sounding waves glisten to the golden rays
While kissing your shores
Memories were made forever in a lifetime
Carved in hearts of gold
Always pretty as ever
It lies waiting just for you
Come share my dreams and bask in the glory of our beloved island paradise
It lies waiting just for you
Always pretty as ever
Carved in hearts of gold
Memories were made forever in a lifetime
While kissing your shores
Playful sounding waves glisten to the golden rays
Pleasing to everyone's eyes
White sandy beaches and beautiful coral reefs

Now that was an amazing poem! Its an enchanting poem , the atmosphere surely seems appealing being it the heart of winter here in my end of the globe...
The style is just incredible, might wish to try to create one of these myself some day! Thanks so much for a great entry, Engr!

Soooooooo good to see you here, Caliban! *Big Hug*
Yeah, a lot of quality stuff everyone is coming up with for this contest. This is a great subject for one, too, big time!

So am I, AlwaysC...
The entries have been overwhelmingly grand, its just so great to have a comp now and then, since one gets to read others work then too. I already know it will be a very tough decision...

THE MARITIMER AND THE SEA

I am the deep blue of the deep blue
I dance inwardly
crashing white frothy spirals on the shoreline
bringing life
and death

everything in it's time you know

I hold in abeyance
the fish in the sea, coral, wet fauna and leviathon
they come and go at my bidding
to take or be taken, to feed or be fed
as is my deep blue whimsey

Enhaling, I take back what I give
burying deep beneath trenches, my treasures
to be found by explorers of the deep

to be used to better the life of mankind
for the human race is such a fragile life form
without me they will surely perish

Yet it is I
I the immortal deep
Who deeply cares for the maritime soldiers
they who love me more than life itself
they who war with my water and winds

It is I who value the courage it takes to ride high
on the perils of  my indigo waves
not by choice but by a need so strong
they would perish without it
with a love for me so deep
my pulse is their pulse

without them
I would be here to time indefinate
to live forever with only the ebb and flow
the fish and coral and fauna
and of course the great leviathon

this will not do

for to me
they are as awe inspiring to watch
as I am to them
