Image for the poem clique

clique

the freedom to be who we are is censored
by looks of derision and sideways glances
with false smiles and daggers felt but not seen

silence says so much when given that look
you know the one
if you're different you have gotten it your whole life

don't stand out from among the crowd
clique up or be targeted
and it hurts to be that one
who speaks honestly about who they are

I've tried to hide my truths to fit in
it didn't work
I still stuck out somehow
just a little strange for most tastes

I ache within the oddity I am
a curiosity for most
with a sideways glance easily dismissed as weird
and not worthy to be heard
