At the Beach
One day at the beach along the coast of the Jersey Shore.
There was an In Shape Man and an Out of Shape Man.
The In Shape Man said to the Out of Shape Man, “Look at me I am tall, strong, tan, graceful & beautiful.”
He went on by saying, “Look at you, your small, ugly, pale, weak and untidy.”
The Out of Shape Man was hurt by the remarks. He knew he wasn’t fit, gorgeous, or tall. It took him much longer to gain courage and talk to anyone let alone a girl. He had no self-esteem.
Girls flocked over to the In Shape Man. He would flex and show...

In nature's toupee sporn of falling leaves
the deli of trees and sleeveless weaves
gathering thieves of old men and hooters
conceived by the winds screaming solo
knuckles and stones rising what lingers
over graves of poets in herringbone
a thundering herd of narcissistic birds
wearing spit-shined shoes and stilettos

River of Sorrow
All that you have, even all that you are,
Will one day be lost
If not already, 'tis yet to come
Each loss feeds a drop of sorrow
Into the stream that bubbles beneath the surface,
Coloring each day, each moment, in a slightly off-color hue
Until it grows into a raging torrent
That when least expected, bursts through with a stunning eruption of sadness,
Paralyzing the mind, the heart, the will to breathe
There is no escape - to wish it were otherwise
Is to wish to be other than human - ...
