Poems about Sleep
#sleep
Poetry about the benefits of a good night's sleep, and poems about feeling tired or sleepy, including poems about sleep problems like insomnia. Also, poetry about sleep and hibernation in nature.
.
awoken too early
woke up, wondered what time
it was certainly early
victorian, perhaps early to mid
all the conjecture I fell back
asleep

4:36 AM
4:36 am, still can't sleep
I think I did everything completely wrong
All I know is...
When you use to touch me
I would think of all of those different men
Fucking my sister & mother at the same time
My hatred towards them, came out towards you
You're in a much better place now
And so am I
One day if i ever get out, I will visit you, for sure
I think I did everything completely wrong
All I know is...
When you use to touch me
I would think of all of those different men

3:15 AM
You're alive but in this room you're a ghost
The last few nights you have come to haunt me
It's 3:15 am
The room is getting smaller
I think about what they did to you
I tried to make you see that I was different
Maybe you saw something I didn't see
Perhaps you saw them in my eyes
I'll never see you again
It's never been the same
I feel like I have failed
So old & final
This night breaks Father Time's nose
The last few nights you have come to haunt me
It's 3:15 am
The room is getting smaller
I think about what they did to you
I tried to make you see that I was different
Maybe you saw something I didn't see
Perhaps you saw them in my eyes
I'll never see you again

This night breaks Father Time's nose

Dreams
If the lyrics of the songs
could come to life,
I wouldn’t invent the dark
to echo back your strife.
If the verses of the poems
could breathe and thrive,
I’d keep a stiff upper lip
with determined eyes.
If the colors of the sky
could linger for a while,
but it ended in darkness,
a meaningful goodbye.
If the sunrise could be
as golden as today,
I wouldn’t eat alone
or listen to hearsay.
If dreams could come true,
I’d give them all to you,
but now they’re short-lived—
the red...

Jagged Carvings
I’ve seen it, by the dim lamp’s glow, I’ve seen it
Totem speaks truths no man seen writ
I bow to whispers, spectral and vast
My limbs grow cold; this trance shall last
The walls dissolve—oh, what madness reveals!
The mind unfurls, its ancient seals
The red sigils glow, their meaning I glean
Too late, I know—no man should have seen
I believe I shall perish, by knowledge undone
Yet in this dream, I am the one
I saw the carvings, etched by hands long decayed
Marks of old dreamers, their warnings betrayed
Symbols crawl and shift...

Let them be alien
Mouthfuls of mindfulness
invading my senses
inhaling , patience complacence
what is this foul fragrance
unfamiliar, alien
yet verbatim
a sleepless ultimatum
or let them be alien?

My night garden
Stocktaking,
after sweeping up the debris of the day
events bandaged where sandman’s dust rests
in the short eternity, till morning
fermenting fruits, a plantation where the vines
produce a nectar stolen from Gods
dark ground where the subconscious rests
its roots releasing the trauma of the day
grey clouds rolling down the slopes
snores that cannot be ignored
resolution, of grief
cutting winds and stony ground
the compound interest
of loss as days progress
the scents, of brushed rosemary and thyme
distilled as...

empty night
That's how I did it to you
very slowly
without rambling
That's how I did it
calmly
with an open hand for you
That everything, like this, without end
no return
no sleep, no sleep, no sleep
all night without sleep
without the blessing of silence
in the palms of my hands
What everything, like this, like this, like this
like the spinning of a top
that comes to an end
sleepless, like this, sleepless, like this
without rambling
very slowly
That's always how I did it
without knowing what I was doing ...
very slowly
without rambling
That's how I did it
calmly
with an open hand for you
That everything, like this, without end
no return
no sleep, no sleep, no sleep
all night without sleep

The Frustration of Insomnia
It’s late at night and sleep alludes me
Synapses are firing at high speeds
Thousands of thudding thoughts thump through and through
Denying my brain of the rest it needs
The fidgety minutes turn into restless hours
New beliefs and viewpoints begin to take form
Even as the frustration of insomnia clouds all reason and logic
It’s a kind of magic amidst a quiet storm
And then everything seems to disappear by morning light
All the ideas and philosophies grew wings and took flight
Synapses are firing at high speeds
Thousands of thudding thoughts thump through and through
Denying my brain of the rest it needs
The fidgety minutes turn into restless hours
New beliefs and viewpoints begin to take form
Even as the frustration of insomnia clouds all reason and logic
It’s a kind of magic amidst a quiet storm
And then everything seems to disappear by morning light
All the ideas and philosophies grew wings and took flight

Can't Get Back To Sleep
Wide awake at 5 am
and slightly frustrated
on this cherished Saturday
This is the day I can sleep in,
but this brain won't let me
Thinking about things I've put off
and how I'm being screwed over by someone
Not a healthy start,
I agree.
And then there is Christmas.
Working in retail,
it takes on a whole new dimension
those songs relentless since November
almost encouraging a rebellious urge
to resist it as long as possible
It will be another gamble
to see if that thoughtfulness ...

Beside me
So vaguely I recall
Peaceful rest
Knowing your breath
Though across the continent
Was audible
Knowing your voice would answer
If i called your name
I remember
Falling asleep
To images of you
& you, though hundreds of miles away
Slept beside me
I wish you
With comforting voice
& calming breath
Lay beside me now
I believe you would
If you could
I know I still matter
In your eyes
So tonight
As I close my eyes
Seek to rest my mind in sleep
I dream of you ...
Peaceful rest
Knowing your breath
Though across the continent
Was audible
Knowing your voice would answer
If i called your name
I remember
Falling asleep
To images of you

Slept beside me
