Timeless
They all say that I spoil you; and that I shouldn’t give in to your every whim and desire; but who are they to know.
I want you to have everything that I never did, a happy childhood where imagination herself can run wild, and a safe space so comforting that it begins to feel like home.
I never got those things, my sweet girl; but I will be damned if you don’t. You’re too young to understand right now,
But one day when you’re older, you will look back and I hope that you will be grateful for all of the things I made sure you had; and all of the things you are getting to...

Something Made Me Drop A Contact Lens
Oh
hi, Guys.
Be with you
in a little
bit. I'm ready to
go with you to the beach.
It's just that something made me
drop a contact lens and that thing
was my kid sister kissing the lips
of some guy old enough to be our dad!

I don't want your shoes
They walked into my life
and they took me aback:
a beautiful pair
of low Converse in black.
But these ones were special—
I could see from afar
that they'd been embellished
with many a star.
As we sat down to talk
of her travels from Fleet,
I thought about how
they would look on my feet.
"Ha ha, they won't fit you,"
she cried in delight.
I'd have to squeeze in,
but I think that they might!
I thought I could try them
while my sister assisted,
but as she...

Defending Innocence
It’s too easy to make her cry
I protect her from the dirt outside
She makes good grades
And doesn’t care what people think
She doesn’t lie to hide her mistakes
They’ve never been made
She doesn’t fight back
She’s better than that
She thinks she’s better than everyone
She’s condescending
And never learned how to have fun
She’s a stranger to empathy
Polite without real sympathy
They think she’s the nicest person around
But she’s always looking down
It’s not her fault
She lives at the top
...

I miss 13
There was a moment of overwhelming hope
Running from one place to the next
No one knows my name or my past
In a town not too far away from my origin
New girl walking through the halls
With a fear of meeting people with such newness
I was a mosaic with old and fresh fractures
Full of colors they had never seen before
I wish I was 13... Back when my family loved each other
We were all a Russian olive tree grove;
All our thorns intertwined so tightly it hurt
Yeah, I wish I was 13 just for a day
To see them all again just for awhile ...

verse 1 Life, has a way of showcasing the lies
Because the truth is not so easy to hide behind
If you can't look me in the eye
Than there must be a reason why
And I don't have time for your kind
chorus So only call me if you're honest
If we're not thicker than water
Don't even bother ...

You Stay Away From My Sister!
While
we were
all having
fun splashing in
the pool, John saw this
blonde in a light purple
bikini come over and
say "hi" with a smile at one of
the other guys only to have John
shove that one guy so hard into the pool.

4 My Sister
My sister
my friend,
I promised to make up for lost time
not knowing yours was coming to an end.
Now you're gone
and I cant come to terms,
I can't imagine a life without you
but guess I'll have to learn.
You're gone too soon
only 33,
Everything happens for a reason
but hard as I try I just cant see.
I miss your late night drunk calls
full of laughs,
I miss sitting around the fire
talkin bout the past.
Strawberry Wine
everyone singing karaoke,
I don't know who sounded worse ...

It's Surprise Time!
Oh oh oh it's Surprise Time! It's Surprise Time! With good-ie-ies for YOU!
Surprise Time is a song I came up with when I was 12, the silly summer my sister, best friend and I shared a guest bedroom in my grandparent's Western North Carolina vacation home.
The song was accompanied by a ritual: the recipient had to close their eyes. The singer (we went on to take turns), just back from the kitchen, would deposit food into the recepient's outstretched palm. Often, it was something good: a small piece of cheese, a cookie, maybe even a brownie edge. However, depending...

"Would he do it again"
There was a time,
he didn't have a thought about life
No opinions on what happened
good or bad
no choice on what to do or how to feel happy or sad
It was a dark time in his young life adulthood was forced upon him
at a very young age
his emotions had to remain hidden
he masked his pain
and suppressed the rage
His own well-being wasn't the only
he had to look after
For 3 little Angels depended on his care watching over them, keeping them safe
that's just how it was
for him life wasn't fair ...

sisters of three
inside of the sacred circle of sisters there is love
an internal storm builds
memories calm
ten years since our meeting
we come together once more
souls binding, intertwining remembering when we were young
I laugh my sisters eyes smile
do you remember when?
I convinced you to cut your dolls hair
I laugh so hard, you wait till I sleep and took vengeance
mermaid swimming at midnight
swinging from branches as Jane of the jungle
escaping to our grandma's yard our own secret garden
our days on...

awesome sister
I can tell her my biggest secrets.
She says, “Cool.”
She doesn’t gasp.
She doesn’t dismiss.
She accepts truths
like catching a baseball out of the sky
with one hand.
Gracefully.
She is taller than me,
but younger than me,
and we’ve been best friends since a decade ago
when they gave us separate bedrooms.
We make mischief and cookies and we talk shit.
We are forever on the same side.
I heard her call me “sibling”
on the phone
to a stranger
in a semi-frantic situation. ...
