A Part of the Northwest Manifesto
All this burst rain
bears the development of gills,
fins cannot handle mercurial
umbrellas and so these hands do not.
Spot the unswimmers, tourists,
underneath their mushroom air pockets
this is a known known--
a safe solution to snipping
resident inevitability, their freeze is cast
away from shields or are shields against you--
the unknown unknowns are building
a future island
(it won't always anticipate
the unguent of nature or nature's man)
out of backyard Mt. Rainier
and there molted...

Roadside Manner
This highway air
is thick & bleeding.
A yellow sleep
in curt despair.
Windows down
for morning dew
on hard thistle blue.
A red flag noon
fuming mindful ooze
into white-hot stew.

A Modest Return
The dupe prefers a midnight shade to snare a single hide,
Drafts the freely given dark for ends you long denied.
Doesn’t need your genuflection, yet demands your sole attention,
Waited long to seize your mind, your behaviour modified.
Stumble if you want to, but I’ve seen it overtake you,
Now you forfeit what was once true,
For a modest return.

Sleepy Sunday
I dreamt upon a Sunday morn
to sleep in without interruption
I wanted a cosy snuggle treat
the luxury sleep soft and sweet
"Feed us now!" Cats loudly cry,
the starving hordes from everywhere
just cross annoying felines
I turned over hands over ears
The dogs scratching at the door
their barks and whines loud and clear
wake up wake up wake up
incessant call for bowl and feed
I groaned out of bed
My pillow calling, "Rest your head!"
there's a chorus of No No No
feed us now now now ...

Happy Born Day
Letter to my first
I unleashed you
into the world
with the snip of a natal chord
With tenacity we fell
in love at first sight
even then I knew this world
thru me was yours
Three played together
as I watched you
grow strong
from a feeble introduction
To hold your head high
looking up to me
a child-father
no prerequisite nor question
Seems I did the teaching
but truth is
I learned myself
in sacrifice thru you
Re-lived from first step
to remove training wheels ...
I unleashed you
into the world
