How do you handle sunsets
with the pink underbellies of birds
in flight and cotton candy skies
turning blue to gray to pink to purple
while you're laying in bed saying yes & no to the one you love
while his eyes;
you can't look at them

I wish you would be more gentle with me
And see how I’ve been torn apart
Like a fallen rose
Petals scattered on concrete floors
Passers by stepping on every piece
Stripped down to only the bud
And hiding away as the air becomes chill
Such a damaging cycle for something so beautiful
No wonder I’ve grown so many thorns
Yet, I will still bloom again
